Trump is not going to win in 2024.

Even if he gets every single Republican vote (he won’t), Republicans are dying left and right, their numbers total like 30% of voters to start with, and the numbers just don’t support him winning. House and Senate are a different story of we don’t tie him well enough to those running (see VA).

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) floated a plan to reinstate a “talking filibuster” in the Senate but it was killed almost immediately when Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) said he won’t support it, Punchbowl News reports.

So whatever manchin is “for” it ain’t the very definition of filibuster

Trump is not going to win in 2024.

He not going to run either unless he’s goaded into it or is so far into dementia he forgets his reasons not to. A big “Red Wave” in 2022 could also talk him into it.

He’s up to his ass in money problems. Running a Super PAC and skimming off the top of it is the only thing keeping the lights on at Mar-a-lago. Enthusiasm for him is waning. Republican politicians are slowly testing the waters in preparation to throw him under the bus.

He’s also losing his mind. All the “Biden is a doddering old dementia patient” bullshit is projection like an IMAX. 3 years of sitting in one court after another and losing everything isn’t going to “fix” this. Even if he doesn’t do 1 second in jail, the stress he’s under right now is enough to tear down the heartiest of people.

In the Bob Cesca podcast on this page today he said he looked into non-Covid deaths from ICUs being clogged up and found the following:

In a CDC study from November 2021,
When ICUs are 75% full, approximately 12,000 people without COVID will die within 2 weeks.
When ICUs are 100% full, approximately 80,000 people without COVID will die within 2 weeks.

Thank you fucking anti-vaxxers and anti-maskers.

Asked for comment, the governor’s spokeswoman reiterated comments DeSantis made at a news conference last month in which he referred to the late civil rights activist Martin Luther King Jr.

DeSantis said at the time, “You think about what MLK stood for, ‘He said he didn’t want people judged on the color of their skin but on the content of their character. You listen to some of these people nowadays, they don’t talk about that.’ “

The grand irony of this “anti-CRT” bill and others like it is that you can be told about Dr King and the one sentence from a speech whose context you can’t be taught about because it makes white people “uncomfortable.”

Now let’s take a sec and make Tucker’s scenario a bit more accurate. Imagine if pro-Chinese “seperatists” in Baja California responded to a pro-Chinese president being removed from power after a sham election by holding a vote to “secede” from Mexico, after which China sent in troops to “protect” the “ethnic Chinese” of the region. After which a “referendum” was held to approve the annexation of Baja California by China where 90% of voters “approved.”

Only then, after part of its territory had been occupied and annexed by China did Mexico appeal to the United States to enter into a pact of mutual defense, the drive for which becoming stronger as more “seperatists” launched a civil war in Sonora with the intent to “return” to China.

NATO = “direct military control” by a foreign power?

On the other hand, bucking NATO right up to Russia’s borders strikes me as unnecessary

NATO was a response to the Eastern Bloc, which was under direct military control of the USSR.

Just about everything wrong in this part of the world I blame on a massive mismanagement of the end of the cold war. It’s one of the things that put Bill Clinton in the “not as great as everyone thinks he is” category.

In order to keep Russia from pulling this horse shit which anyone should have seen coming from a light year away, Poland, the Baltics, Ukraine, and Belarus should have been put in a mutual defense alliance independent from NATO and Russia. The Crimea should have just been given to Russia straight away in return for something because the only time it was Ukrainian land is while it was in the USSR when the Soviet government transferred it from the Russian SFSR to the Ukrainian SSR in the 50s.

A big sit down with all the nuclear powers on the number of Nukes the world would put up with should have happened as well. You can’t uninvent a weapon, but removing the ability for a maniacs temper tantrum to end all human civilization, while still retaining deterrence should have been a goal. Reducing warheads from 45k-ish on each side down to 5k-ish wasn’t enough. Just went from turning the Earth into a cinder 100 times over to 10 times over.

I fully agree with all those points. And Russia has one of the biggest diaspora of native Russians in the world, nearly 30 million stuck outside the borders of the Russian Federation. Those are Putin’s Sudetendeutsch to be used as pawns in his plans to re-establish the old Russian Empire.

And although Russia had a valid claim to the Crimea, that does not justify Putin’s actions in reclaiming it by force.

Remember, the breakup of the USSR left Ukraine with the fifth-largest nuclear arsenal in the world, which it willingly gave up in exchange for promises to guarantee the integrity of its borders.

So by all rights, since the West has not held up its end of the deal shouldn’t we just re-arm Ukraine with nukes and let them defend themselves?

Mistakes were made.

Professor Cyrille Cohen is head of Immunology at Bar Ilan University and a member of the advisory committee for vaccines for the Israeli Government. In a wide-ranging and forthright interview, the Professor tells Freddie Sayers:

The Green Pass / vaccine passport concept is no longer relevant in the Omicron era and should be phased out (he expects it to be in short order in Israel)

He and his colleagues were surprised and disappointed that the vaccines did not prevent transmission, as they had originally hoped

The biggest mistake of the pandemic in Israel was closing schools and education - he apologised for that

Widespread infection is now an inevitable part of future immunity — otherwise known as herd immunity

Omicron has accelerated the pandemic into the endemic phase, in which Covid will be “like flu”

68
Wendell Zurkowitz ((slave to the waffle light))  Jan 19, 2022 • 4:52:14am

Vaccines are there to reduce transmission, they are not a panacea for a pandemic.

We can still send children to school relatively safely if we invest in additional teaching and support staff, expanded facilities (smaller classes and more physical room for distancing) and enhanced safety measures (both physical and organizational)

But that costs money and Public Education in America is all about keeping it as cheap as possible.

Everybody’s infection rate is embarrassing right now. Even in the bluer states, omicron is just absolutely demolishing us. However, when I look at Minnesota’s data, deaths and ICU usage are still falling, even as infections and hospitalizations are spiking sharply. That tells me that vaccines are working to keep people out of ICUs, at least; I know that deaths are a trailing indicator.

India is a prime example of a gross undercount. The government has an official count based on those who died in hospitals, but most Indians never go to a hospital and died outside of health facilities. That means that we know there’s a massive undercount there, especially as we also know that crematoria and funerals skyrocketed beyond capacity for weeks and months.

Russia is another country with a vast undercount.

Here in the US, the undercounts varied by state, but it’s still there. CDC can ultimately help suss out the undercount, which might still be about 10-30% more than the official count.

Yeah, more than a million dead from covid - the disease that Trump said would be near zero within weeks of March 2020.

I’m pretty sure Trump’s initial goal in 2016 was simply to get attention so as to leverage kicking off a series of additional grifts. Rot in the GOP and a slate of fear-mongering dough face candidates who couldn’t do hate rhetoric in Trump’s class led to Trump getting the nomination. And then the 30+ years of Clinton hate were utilized along with the media bias for their eyeballs and horse race instead of honest journalism led to what we got.

And part of it was also a conservative backlash for having a black POTUS for eight years.

New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu (R), who was one of the GOP’s top recruitment targets for the 2022 Senate midterms, was “pretty close” to throwing his hat into the race — until he found out his only purpose in the Senate would be to help Republicans keep the whole chamber dysfunctional.

Sununu told the Washington Examiner in an interview published on Tuesday that before he ultimately made the decision not to run against Sen. Maggie Hassan (D-NH), he had spoken to most of the members of the Senate GOP to learn more about the job.

The senators’ descriptions apparently amounted to “LOL what job?”

“They were all, for the most part, content with the speed at which they weren’t doing anything,” Sununu told the Examiner. “It was very clear that we just have to hold the line for two years.”

“OK, so I’m just going to be a roadblock for two years,” he continued. “That’s not what I do.”

Sununu said he was “bothered” not just by how the senators were fine with doing nothing, but also the fact that they apparently couldn’t explain why, if the current goal is to obstruct until the GOP potentially wins the White House in 2024, they didn’t do anything even when they did have the White House during Trump’s term.

“I said, ‘OK, so if we’re going to get stuff done if we win the White House back, why didn’t you do it in 2017 and 2018?’” Sununu recounted.

“Crickets. Yeah, crickets,” he said of the senators’ response. “They had no answer.”

Trump’s fraud has been documented in the past - claiming one thing to the banks/lenders, another to investors, and still another to tax authorities. None of them are based in fact or reality, and all of them are designed to be self-sustaining, because Trump figures that if the banks realize that they’ve been screwed, they can’t drop Trump because of the massive loss they’d incur.

Investors likewise don’t know the proper valuations, because they think that Trump’s numbers are legit. Tax authorities investigating Trump all along have been stonewalled as to his valuations and financial information because all of this stuff is closely held businesses and small business corporations to avoid scrutiny as best as possible.

Everything is about self-dealing and lying to everyone to keep the real estate business afloat. It’s about the appearance of being more wealthy than he actually is, all while denying same wealth to tax authorities.

Wire fraud. Tax fraud. Fraud in the inducement. Conspiracy. Those are the criminal charges. Each of the investors and creditors has reason to sue the fuck out of Trumpworld for lying about their financial picture as well. And it’s my hope that the weight of these suits end Trumpworld in bankruptcy - personally and all of his businesses.

We lost two of our dogs last year to old age. Have one that is getting there (we also have 2 younger dogs).

Decided to replace the living room carpet which was old when we bought the house now that carpet would be less likely to get stained.

Guys are installing the new carpet now. Discovered that there was the original wood floor under the carpet, which could be restored with some work (living room is the only carpeted room on the first and second floor). But my killer sound system benefits from the acoustic damping from the carpeting, so…).

I’m not used to paying folks to work on the house, I usually do all the work myself. I love this 91 year old house; it’s built like a tank (unlike modern construction). Having strangers in the house feels very weird.

A side note: if you install new carpet, do NOT skimp on the pad. High quality pad will extend the carpet life considerably.

I’ll be glad when it’s done.

There’s evidence of systematic and pervasive election fraud committed by Trump and his coconspirators and accomplices. Agreed, the attic insulation is minimal. Actually has 3 different types of insulation. Just had it tested and was delighted to learn there is no asbestos, so we can add insulation without removing what is there.

We installed a high efficiency furnace and air conditioning and it’s been surprisingly cheap to heat and cool.

One interesting thing with houses of this age: there are doors everywhere. In fact, there is one spot where I can touch 5 doors without moving. So I can go to the man cave I put in the basement and play guitar or listen to music at high volume without disturbing Mrs Cranky late at night, since I can close multiple doors to block the sound.

No — there is obvious intent. It seems clear that if you make conflicting statements to value a property as worth substantially more for loan purposes than for tax purposes, it is obvious to all, except braindead minions, that the lies are deliberate and not a mistake.

in the financial world, if you made a “mistake” you should be able to go back to the dox and process and explain how it happened.

and this isn’t “a” / “one” mistake. there’s a pattern

My guess at step 2 was the correct answer, but instead I followed a strategy of guessing what I thought were the missing two letters followed by 3 common letters that I had not yet used. Once I verified the first two, and that the last three were still the last three but in a in a different order, couldn’t miss.

Yep, we live in an 1879 farmhouse and doors are everywhere so they could isolate rooms in winter. Tiny, tiny windows. We have doubled the window square footage, cut out some walls, and lifted some ceilings (trapped 23 raccoons out of that crawl space two years before opening it). It’s quite nice now without losing character.

When you hear wealthy conservatives, Repub pols and talking heads moaning about inflation, keep in mind how much they’d be crowing if this was a Republican presidency:

“…Another advantage of the Biden economic and employment boom is that the greatest benefits are going to people with less education and lower earnings. Data collected by the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta shows that for the first time in decades, median hourly wages and salaries in 2021 increased faster among Americans with high school diplomas or some college but no degree. Similarly, median hourly wages or salaries in 2021 increased most rapidly among working Americans in the lowest earnings quartile.

“…Across most of the economy, wage gains in 2021 lagged the sudden onset of inflation: Overall, they were up by 4.6 percent before inflation and down 2.1 percent after inflation. But for regular workers in those two industries—everyone but managers and professionals—inflation-adjusted hourly wages rose by 7.6 percent in food services and accommodations and remained steady in retail.”

My take on the inflation rise has been that, in addition to the issues caused by covid disrupting the supply chain, it’s adjusting to what it would be if people were paid wages closer to what they should be. This will definitely increase demand, but eventually it will settle. It’s been kept artificially low due how we’ve treated certain types of jobs.

Suddenly Great Britain seems so sensible compared to America.

They’re close to dumping Johnson because of a pandemic party, but Trump hasn’t had a hair on his dead pelt head mussed even though he tried to overthrow the government, got Capitol cops killed and caused the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people with his COVID lies and denialism

Seriously.
What the eff is wrong with us?

American Exceptionalism…

I can assure you, the price of baby lamb chops and fresh strawberries in January has gone up noticeably. Same for my favorite Citarella lobster corn chowder. Inflation!!

On the other hand, people at the bottom quintile of wages aren’t really baby lamb chops and fresh strawberries in January and lobster corn chowder kind of people.
