The Republican-Owned Supreme Court Declares War on Women’s Rights

Politics • Views: 17,042

Well, there’s no way to minimize it, this is very bad news: Supreme Court has voted to overturn abortion rights, draft opinion shows.

The Supreme Court has voted to strike down the landmark Roe v. Wade decision, according to an initial draft majority opinion written by Justice Samuel Alito circulated inside the court and obtained by POLITICO.

The draft opinion is a full-throated, unflinching repudiation of the 1973 decision which guaranteed federal constitutional protections of abortion rights and a subsequent 1992 decision – Planned Parenthood v. Casey – that largely maintained the right. “Roe was egregiously wrong from the start,” Alito writes.

So far it is completely as I expected — Roberts a question mark, the other conservatives going for a full repeal of Roe, and the beleaguered liberals in dissent.

Look at this lying motherfucker go:

“We emphasize that our decision concerns the constitutional right to abortion and no other right,” Alito writes. “Nothing in this opinion should be understood to cast doubt on precedents that do not concern abortion.”

Since SCOTUS never leaks, we have to assume this is deliberate, most likely by Alito and his cabal.

Is the purpose to gin up a firestorm in the right wing noise machine to ‘justify’ something even more extreme, like an abortion law Dred Scott case that tries to ban abortion nationwide?

So the missus is bagging change right now - because none of her cafes use cash anymore and she’s opening a new cafe in San Francisco tomorrow and city ordinance is that a cash-payment option must be available. So she’s getting about ten+ bucks in quarters, a dollar in pennies, five bucks in dimes, and a few bucks in nickels together to fill a ‘drawer’ if they need it.

Then she comes up and hands me a nickel and says, “What year is this Buffalo Head nickel?”…took me a while to see it as it’s mostly rubbed away, but 1934.

Depressing but certainly not surprising. And a GQP congress and presidency certainly will enact a nationwide abortion ban.

I used to consider myself “pro-life” that is, I am personally opposed to abortion and I would never have one, but I did not think I had the right to tell others what they should do about an unexpected pregnancy. I found out later that is a “pro choice” position all along.

What really turned me around, was the horrific and unnecessary death of Savita Halapanavar, who died of sepsis because doctors in Ireland were not allowed to perform an abortion unless her life was in “imminent danger”—that “danger” to be defined by politicians and not actual physicians, and then it was too late.

When a pregnant woman has an infection, or preeclampsia, time is of the essence. The situation can become dire in a matter of hours, not the days or weeks OR MONTHS(!!) it would take to obtain permission from the courts to proceed with a life-saving procedure. We do not leave critical medical decisions to people who do not even know what an “ectopic pregnancy” is.

This made me realize that the very people who call themselves “pro-life” have no interest in preserving actual life. There will be many deaths now, thanks to the so-called “pro-life” cult.

Might have been leaked from the left to start getting Democrats energized for the midterms. We just don’t know. But I think we do know now that the reversal of Roe v. Wade and abortion becoming illegal in half the country is going to be a massive news story.

To find we have fallen so far as to try and reverse Roe V Wade is just heart-stopping depressing. It takes work to maintain our gains and even more to move forward. It’s like a convict in a chain gang.

My mom was a nurse for 50 years - from the recovery room in 1961 to administration (after getting her Bachelor of Science in the late 1970s). She did things I just assumed were normal. Things like taking out a loan for herself in the 1978 (only learning later from her that banks were saying she needed my dad to co-sign. Hah!).

Above all else she told me how rich folks prior to Roe v Wade could get a D and C (‘menstrual problems”) while poor folks were relegated to butchers. My dad processed insurance claims at his company and knew when they were for abortions.

People forget that the Southern Baptist Church initially praised the Roe v Wade decision.

Fuck the 2000 election for allowing W to appoint 2 justices, including the fascist Alito. Fuck Ralph Nader for costing Al Gore New Hampshire and Florida. And fuck this hell that women have been consigned to.

This decision will result in women being convicted of first-degree murder, let alone the desperate who will die.

That was what I was expecting once Barrett got on the court. Roberts is smart enough to know that subjecting abortion rights to the death of a thousand cuts (i.e., Kennedy’s entire career) is an effective way of restricting abortion while keeping it a live issue for the GOP base as the left sleeps.

Now the left might wake up, and I’m sure hoping for the full Adm. Yamamoto scenario vs. the Republican menace.

In Kentucky, women will die, because our trigger law only allows abortion to save the life of the mother, and of course doctors will hesitate due to the fear that zealous prosecutors will second guess their judgment and try to put them in prison. Fanatical forced birthers believe an abortion is never necessary to save the life of the mother.
