Frankly, I think Earth shouldn’t have been wearing verdant forests, so it was kind of its own fault. But fortunately, the religion of greed will have us wearing a drab sandy burqa.

My question to the UFO nutters: For the last 20 years or so, there have been hundreds of millions of people all over the world carrying with them high definition cameras and video cameras, plus there are millions of high definition cameras and video cameras doing security all over the world. Why aren’t there hundreds of thousands of crisp, clear pictures or videos of UFOs? We have the same amount as before, and they are all just smeary blobs.

Because the Technologically Advanced Aliens who have been monitoring us since right after Hiroshima have noted, and diligently kept pace with, our own technological advances - so that. UFO sightings/pictures/videos will *ALWAYS* have the same level of ambiguity they maintained in the 1950s.
After all, what is Advanced Technology for…. ???

I’ve found it pretty hard to cook T’giving turkeys just right, so I finally gave up and went with either chicken or beef. You can gussy it up with gravy and it’s pretty good, but every year the leftovers were dry and no one wanted to pull it out of the fridge or freezer.

Shred that dry turkey, mix it with half/half mayo & plain yogurt, a bunch of shredded coconut & a dash of allspice. Mix well & chill overnight in the fridge. Serve on crackers (I prefer ritz type).

Thanksgiving day? eh. Leftover turkey? Yum!

Ya want some magical thinking? The Q contingent is coming to town this weekend. Clay Clark & Mike Flynn’s Reawaken America tour goat rodeo will be just 2 miles from me. Supposedly SOLD OUT 2,000 TICKETS. The speaker lineup is scary:

Speakers include Eric Trump, Dr. Zelenko, Mel K, Dr. Simone Gold, Sean Feucht, Doctor Dave Scarlett, Dr. Jane Ruby, Roger Stone, Dr. Stella Immanuel, Comedian Jim Meehan, Pastor Phil Hotsenpiller, Doug Billings, Rashid Buttar, Mike Lindell, and others.

And for some reason (grift?? Nah) their preferred hotel is at the other end of the beach, 20 minutes and about 100 other hotels away.

I realized this while I was still in my teens, circa 1967. It is the reason I have consistently supported gay rights, even through my psychotic episode period as a rabid Republican. Nothing about being gay actually bothers these people (they were notably tolerant, even solicitous, of gays in their own ranks), homophobia was just a club they could use to whip young people, especially young men, into shape.

i made my first try at frying chicken in the new wok (flat bottomed, so doable). It was okay. I didn’t get the oil hot enough, so a little greasy, but live and learn. I’m always nervous cranking a healthy dose of oil up to high temps. I’m only used to doing that in commercial fryers, where the damned things heavy duty enough to where I’m not worried about it catching on fire, or tipping over.

I’ve been hit on a couple of times by gay men in my life (early years in the theater, and I was good looking enough to play Joseph and Stephen in Amazing Technicolor, and Godspell). I took it as an extreme compliment. The gay men I’ve encountered generally have really excellent taste. They realized I wasn’t interested, and we just kind of moved on.

When I was working in restaurants in my late teens and early twenties I was often invited to go to parties or the gay bar in town to dance by my gay co-workers. If I was ever approached by someone who didn’t know me, they warned them off. And it wasn’t like I was ever the only non-gay person at the parties—and certainly not the club, it was a hot scene for after-hours dancing and drinking.

So I signed up with Spotify.

Yeah, I know, they spread horrible people’s stupid takes, around the world.

But they had a 3-month free offer that I decided to take.

Today is, I think, the last day to sign up for this. Available to people who haven’t gone Spotify Premium in at least a year.

Anyway, their catalog is much larger than Tidal, for music in which I have some interest. Tidal has higher quality streams, but its catalog is pretty thin in some areas.

Immigration officials created network that can spy on majority of Americans, report says

Immigration and Customs Enforcement has crafted a sophisticated surveillance dragnet designed to spy on most people living in the United States, without the need for warrants and many times circumventing state privacy laws, such as those in California, according to a two-year investigation released Tuesday by the Georgetown Law Center on Privacy & Technology.

Over the years, privacy law experts and civil rights activists and attorneys have accused ICE of overreach in its surveillance tactics directed at immigrants and Americans alike, but the Georgetown report paints a picture of an agency that has gone well beyond its immigration enforcement mandate, instead evolving into something of a broader domestic surveillance agency, according to the report, called “American Dragnet: Data-Driven Deportation in the 21st Century.”

latimes.com

And yes, it’s really as bad as you think. Considering that most Americans live within 100 miles of the border, aka in what the ACLU calls the “Constitution free zone”, this is pretty bad.

Ironically, the Phoenix metro is just barely NOT in the 100 mile zone but the Gila River Indian Community, which pretty much restricts urban sprawl on metro Phoenix’s south side, is.

The US needs to bear that in mind should it find itself dealing with enemies in the Persian Gulf region, South China Sea, etc. It may also be a function of lack of significant training to detect/stop incoming missile fire, inadequate firefighting training, and lack of funds.

Didn’t the UFO craze here get a real boost when in 1947 the Roswell Army Air Field collected wreckage from a ranch and issued a press release claiming that it had retrieved a “flying disc”? It doesn’t matter that subsequent statements retracted that claim. The original report has remained as a permanent reminder that once out there, information, no matter how erroneous, takes on a life of its own

and charge full price for each 30-second consult

My father was furious and changed doctors when he found that a doc he had for some specialty would open the door to his room, when he was in the hospital for something else entirely, and say, “Hey, how ya’ doin’?”. And then charge for a full consult visit. It was all on insurance, so no harm, right? Oh, Pop was livid, and really told him off.

The Hyundai Ioniq is a nice car. We have the Kia version - the EV6.

Georgia - hot bed of modern technology…But the image of good ole boys ‘rolling coal’ in their 4x4 jacked up trucks as they go to work at the e-car factory is a kind of fun one to imagine.

Oh, I thought the other Georgia

It’s so nice that apparently there is demand in Japan for it. 20 years ago when I was in grad school Koreans would ship Toyotas they bought in the states back to Korea. Things have changed.

re: #77 Hecuba’s daughter

Didn’t the UFO craze here get a real boost when in 1947 the Roswell Army Air Field collected wreckage from a ranch and issued a press release claiming that it had retrieved a “flying disc”? It doesn’t matter that subsequent statements retracted that claim. The original report has remained as a permanent reminder that once out there, information, no matter how erroneous, takes on a life of its own

Interesting that the Roswell incident occurred just 2 weeks after the very first “flying saucer” sighting, by Kenneth Arnold on June 24, 1947. Arnold’s story that he had seen “boomerang shaped” craft flying “like saucers skipping across a pond” had become a media sensation.
This could explain why the Roswell PR officer, desperate for a cover story for the crash of a top secret spy balloon, had seized on the “flying saucer” craze as a solution. This seems reckless and stupid today but the UFO culture and its dominating position in conspiracy culture did not exist at the time, while flying saucers were on everybody’s lips. It is also interesting that Arnold never described the craft he saw as saucer shaped, but the term “flying saucer” was construed, or misconstrued that way, and future sightings, lo and behold, were usually described as saucer shaped. Indeed, the term had already evolved to “flying disc” by the time of the Roswell incident.
The flying saucer angle of the Roswell story was forgotten until the 1970s when it re-surfaced and came to the attention of professional UFO conspiracists. The involvement of the spy balloon, Project Mogul, remained classified for many years, helping the alien claim to flourish.

Now that the crypto market is crashing, it’s looking less and less likely that El Salvador will be able to make its next bond payment, defaulting on its national debt. This would prove disastrous for the country’s economy and the government’s ability to fulfil basic functions.

For his part, Bukele continues to double down on crypto, having bought 500 bitcoin (about $15.5 million at the time, now $14.1 million) on May 9. On the same day, the president tweeted about plans for a “Bitcoin City” to be built in the shadow of a volcano, with pictures of him admiring its gold-painted scale model.

The comical absurdity of Bukele showing off these plans for a sci-fi future city as he stares down an economic catastrophe of his own creation belies how hard this default will hit average Salvadorans. As with other areas of the crypto crash, it’s going to be regular people who got suckered in, or were brought along against their will, who will be left holding the bag.

Do you have an opinion on who the final 4 will be for the House race? And who is most likely to win in the final competition?

I have no idea of who the Final Four will be. I have a hunch Santa Clause might make it just for the novelty effect. Otherwise Al Gross (I), who just promised to caucus with the Dems, comes to mind. Sarah Palin is a wild card. People up here either love her or hate her. Right now, I think more people hate her.

Campaigning has barely begun.
