The presumed goals of the Russian invasion of Ukraine at the start the war were to
(1) capture Kyiv,
(2) capture the Black Sea coastline from Russia to the border of Moldova, and then
(3) conduct a grand encirclement of and capture the entire standing Ukrainian Army East of the Dniepro (Dnieper) River.
When the Russians were defeated at Kyiv and unable to advance along the Black Sea, they attempted to conduct a smaller encirclement of part of the Ukrainian Army in the DonBas region.
The Ukrainian Army has stopped one of the Russian Army pincers and sent it retreating to Russia. The Ukrainian Army is currently attempting to surround part of that pincer at Izium. The Ukrainian Army is currently working to stop the Russian advance from the Kherson Region.
So now the Russians are attempting a mini-encirclement against a small section of the Ukrainian Army directly in front of the breakaway Donetsk and Luhansk pro-Russian regions. And that, so far, doesn’t seem to be going well.

It does feel like south central Arizona in mid-May. The high temp zoomed up from 86 on Thursday to 102 today. Right now it’s 77 outside and my a/c is going off. Tomorrow it’s supposed to be 105. Over the two decades I’ve lived here, I’ve figured out that for me, 105 is the upper limit of what I can tolerate as “very warm” and anything above that is “hot.” That said, it’s still a dangerous temperature. Hydration, hydration, hydration!

The second time I noticed he saw his reflection in the sliding glass door against the dark of night. He likes the dog in the mirror but not the one in the dark of night in his back yard. If he ever barks at a person I think they will need fresh underwear. He makes snoring sounds when he’s super happy.

TL;DR is that Sweden has strict laws about exporting strategic products. And since 2018-04-01, the already strict laws were tightened more, and the National Strategic for Strategic Products Inspectorate has to also factor in the status of democracy in the importing country.
And as we all know, democracy in Turkey has been problematic ever since Erdogan came into power, which is probably why Sweden has nixed exports of weapons-grade products to Turkey. There are a couple of other factors that may have NOPEd exports to Turkey as well. And I believe Finland has similar legislation as well.
So, basically, Erdogan & Co are butthurt because Finland and (specifically) Sweden won’t bend the rules or have a minister interfere, totally disregarding that the laws concerning exports of strategic products have been there for decades (think as old as I am or more (50)), every time rules have been bent, it’s been discovered and the admin as well as the Inspectorate have been burned and suffered optics issues, not to mention the very long-standing tradition in Sweden of administration officials not interfering with the operations of the departments, using legislation etc.. If you lose 30% of an operational unit, that unit is likely almost useless. It of course depends a lot on what exactly has been lost, but individual elements aren’t interchangeable and it’s not like your phone battery that works fine until you hit 0%. There are rules of thumb for this sort of thing. It also tends to affect morale a bit, which gets you into a death spiral (pretty literally).

I had to take a sec and try to read the op-ed just to see where the latest cry of “woke” came from. And I didn’t get even 1/3 into it before slamming into proof that this fucker didn’t actually watch either instance of “wokeism” (or whatever word they’re using):
The first blatant example of electioneering, on Star Trek Discovery, was a cameo by current and former Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams as none other than the President of Federation of Planets. The second was a weird plot twist in the pilot of new show, Strange New Worlds in which the 2020 capitol riot is depicted and blamed for starting a Second American Civil War and the destruction of the planet. To put it more succinctly, Orange man bad.
Abrams was not introduced as the Federation President, she’s the President of United Earth, a role that she was thrilled to play as a major fan of Star Trek for years (unlike the author). And images from the 2021 Capital Riot were just a few among many presented as examples of how growing divides and distrust led to first a Second Civil War, then the Eugenics Wars, and eventually WWIII.
The rest of the whole thing is just a farking joke, showing such a shallow understanding of the franchise and the people behind it that I can’t be bothered to go much deeper. It’s another reject from the shallow end of the gene pool whining that he can’t enjoy mindless entertainment without being reminded of what a sack of shit he is.

The creative staff of TNG wanted to do an episode about HIV/AIDS, but the network censors shot it down.

The aforementioned “The Outcast” originally was supposed to have the “androgynous’ race played by a mixed cast of men and women, with the character Riker enters a relationship with being played by a man, but the censors got scared and insisted on an all-female cast so that viewers wouldn’t get icked by the idea of two guys kissing.
