Fetterman waited until after his remarkable weight loss to have his heart problems and stroke. Usually, the heart attack or stroke come first, then you change your ways.

There was something similar during Watergate and Iran Contra, when Congressional hearings and Congress were at odds with the DOJ over handling evidence gathering and work product.

They’ve got to get their ducks in a row on both sides - and accelerate their investigations. Time is ticking.

I had to retire my 30” monitor because it’s so faded and the colors have all gotten a yellowish tint, and it looks like shit next to the awesome iMac screen. So for now I connected the old 23” Cinema Display that I had before the 30” but didn’t use for very long, so the screen is still pretty bright and not yellowish. Looks much better.

But I may have to break down and get a good 5K monitor to match the iMac eventually because the Retina display is DA BOMB.

Well I just found out some good news (for now). Pre-entry (covid) tests are no longer required for fully vaccinated travellers to enter Canada by land, air or water. I’ll still have to complete the ArriveCAN within 72 hours before before hitting the border when I next drive up to visit Robyn, but that will be no big deal as I am already registered with them.

I Have to wait until 9:00 tonight to find out the results of the primary. I voted D, but since this is Idaho, any D on the ticket will lose in the midterms. I’ll still vote for them regardless.

My first migraine happened in high school, when we were supposed to write out the words to the Star Spangled Banner for some reason.

I started writing, and then noticed that the letters I was drawing on the notebook paper looked nothing like the alphabet as I knew it, and there was a weird spiky arc showing up in my field of vision, and then a crushing headache began and I’m not sure what happened next but my mom showed up at school and took me home, where I suffered the worst headache I’d ever had. I had to be in a totally dark room for most of the day because any light was incredibly painful.

Just popping in to give a quick summary of today. Almost everyone was short staffed so most of us (me too) had to do jobs that while we are cross-trained that we are not used to. For a Primary my division got 63 people who came to the polls. We had 25 mail in ballots. And something that really depressed me there were fights over lawn signs. It happened in other divisions not in mine. We will see what the end results are tomorrow and in the following days.

Neither have I. The arrival kiosks at the airport though has a very vague question about bringing a small pet in though. I’ve been hammered twice because of it. The second time I even asked the person there to help about it and he gave me the wrong info. The first time through, I misread the question, answered no, and got stopped and questioned about it. That’s a question that should be added to ArriveCan imho.

Hopefully you are right but, with strokes, one never knows. Our former senator Mark Kirk suffered permanent cognitive impairment from his stroke and his comments during a debate with Tammy Duckworth sealed his fate. With any luck, Fetterman will be able to demolish his opponent.

The modern Republican Party represents the worst of our history — it must be destroyed, but unfortunately too many Americans have been seduced by the cruelty, lack of compassion, worship of the wealthy, environmental destruction, and racism that it espouses almost everywhere it is in control.

I’m convinced the turning point for Musk were the lawsuits against Tesla for racist activities by employees in the California operations.

If good ol’ tech-bros aren’t allowed to be good ol’ tech-bros- well, then…. that throws a wrench into the whole “Let’s get to Mars, ship those cars, and make $100 Billion doing it”. Hence the move to Texas and Elon’s personal move towards straight-up embrace of fascism.

It is surprising that North Korea is reporting anything. Given their isolation from the world community, it would seem they could conceal this scourge. Amazing that, per worldometer, they have substantially more cases than the very secretive, but still linked to the real world, China. Of course, Johns Hopkins shows 10 times as many cases in China as worldometer — which would suggest there is an issue with worldometer accuracy.

Whatever the real numbers are, it stretches credulity that China somehow during the whole course of the epidemic has experienced only 222,130 cases, as worldometer reports. That may be the official number — but there is no way that number is close to accurate. Even the higher Johns Hopkins figure of 2,364,674 is absurdly low.

This reminded me of the doppleganger studies:

You are surprisingly likely to have a living doppelganger

It’s on your passport. It’s how criminals are identified in a line-up. It’s how you’re recognised by old friends on the street, even after years apart. Your face: it’s so tangled up with your identity, soon it may be all you need to unlock your smartphone, access your office or buy a house.

Underpinning it all is the assurance that your looks are unique. And then, one day your illusions are smashed.

“I was the last one on the plane and there was someone in my seat, so I asked the guy to move. He turned around and he had my face,” says Neil Douglas, who was on his way to a wedding in Ireland when it happened.

“The whole plane looked at us and laughed. And that’s when I took the selfie.” The uncanny events continued when Douglas arrived at his hotel, only to find the same double at the check-in desk. Later their paths crossed again at a bar and they accepted that the universe wanted them to have a drink. He woke up the next morning with a hangover and an Argentinian radio show on the phone - the picture had gone viral.

Diary of a teenage monster.

The avowed white supremacist who killed 10 people at a Buffalo supermarket first became radicalized during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic by scouring extremist internet messaging boards, according to his twisted online diary.

Payton Gendron, 18, spent months reflecting on his plans to conduct a mass shooting in the digital journal and said his exposure to 4Chan, an online message board known as a hotbed for extremism, kept him motivated to stick to his plans.

“My current beliefs started when I first started to use 4chan a few months after covid started,” Gendron wrote in the diary, which was posted on the Discord app and was taken down after the attack.

“Every time I think maybe I shouldn’t commit to an attack I spend 5 min [on] /pol/, then my motivation returns,” he wrote in another entry, referencing the message board’s politics section, which is known for racist and anti-semitic content.

more from the article by Miles Taylor leaving the GOP

I’ve been a political conservative most of my life, having worked for two Republican presidents and for a GOP-controlled Congress. In the wake of the mass shooting in Buffalo on Saturday, it’s become glaringly obvious that my party no longer represents conservative values but in fact poses a threat to them — and to America.
….

After more than a decade in counterterrorism, it’s clear to me that my party is mainstreaming conspiracy theories that are fueling a statistical spike in political intimidation, attitudes toward violence and the specter of domestic terrorism that we witnessed this weekend in New York.

….

The party of Lincoln once stood on granite-solid ground — promoting free minds, free markets and free people — but no longer. The GOP is now a party of misinformation and false grievances, of protectionism and nativism, of election subversion and anti-democratic sentiment.

…..

At the same time, the party is going after the foundations of democracy itself. GOP lawmakers have curtailed voting rights in nearly half of U.S. states, and a slew of Republican “election deniers” are running for positions charged with overseeing state elections. What’s more, most Republicans still favor a twice-impeached Trump for president, despite the fact that at least one former aide has said he would “absolutely” impose some form of autocracy in a second term and some of his cabinet members have warned he’s a “threat to democracy.”

Oh goodie. It’s a damn good thing my week of vacation starts in 37 minutes. As part of my morning routine, I start the oven so that it’s preheated when the breakfast person arrives.

This morning it threw an error message and we can’t cook with it.

The AGM is filling in for breakfast this morning and is trying to heat stuff in a microwave.

And of course we had a full house last night with people wanting their eggs and sausages.

Yeah. Not my idea of a fun morning.

Create a Failure Mode routine that pre-sets breakfast response with a capable IHOP or someplace. It’s going to cost the hotel anyways.

Not a bad idea. I’ll write up a note for the GM suggesting that. There’s a very nice local “family restaurant” that does a good cheap breakfast. Perhaps a flat fee for two eggs, bacon or sausage & toast or pancakes?

Looks like the crash of China Eastern Airlines #5735 a couple months back may well have been what a lot of us suspected - pilot suicide.

The China Eastern Airlines plane crash that killed 132 people is believed to have been caused by an intentional act, according to U.S. officials who spoke to ABC News.

The Boeing 737-800 passenger jet was flying from Kunming to Guangzhou on March 21 when it plunged into a mountainous area in Guangxi, China. All 123 passengers and nine crew members were killed.

The officials who spoke to ABC News point to the plane’s flaps not being engaged and landing gear not put down. The near-vertical descent of the plane, they believe, would’ve required intentional force.

Investigators also looked into one of the pilots’ personal lives and background and believe he may have been struggling through certain issues right before the crash, ABC News has learned.

Which is odd, as I also have an uneven leg.

Later I met some Irishmen who asked if I was from the Southwest, Yes, I replied, from Arizona. But they meant if I was from County Cork, they knew a fellow from there who also sings and plays mandolin.

“Which leg?” I asked…

Biden’s diplomatic efforts not only thwarted Putin’s imperialist ambitions, but has resulted in a stronger NATO and EU.

I am speculating that if Putin had simply settled for annexing the autonomous regions of Donetsk and Luhansk in a short operation, he might have gotten away with it and caused some degree of discord within NATO on how to respond.

But for now, there is nothing about this operation that he can at all spin as any sort of “success”.

My last name is fairly common.

One interesting thing is when a last name is transcribed from a non-Latin alphabet or a marginally literate area. You can get all sorts of variations.

And, of course, there are the stories, likely apocryphal such as this:

LOL I heard this in Yiddish as “Sean Ferguson.” Sean Ferguson met a Chinese immigrant who was behind him in line at Ellis Island. He was also named Sean Ferguson. Sean I asked Sean II how he got the name. Sean II said, after you told him your name he asked my name and I said “Sam Ting.”

I’d like to see the fucks in jail, but I would be happy to see their power and influence gone. I am TIRED of the bad guys winning and they won’t stop until they are stopped.

In one respect, he reminds me of the Michigan shooter at Oxford High School. That murderer was not propelled by racial animus; but while knowing that he had serious mental issues, his parents gave him a gun and cheered him on. I find it difficult to believe that Payton Gendron’s parents were unaware of his psychopathic hatred of minorities and his belief in the “great replacement theory”. They knew something was wrong and yet let him have access to weaponry and even gave him a gun as a gift.

There have been other such incidents, so it’s not like this is the only time it’s ever happened. Beijing could actually come out of this looking good - if they’re willing to admit to the facts and then take concrete measures to ensure that something like this won’t happen again.

Now this is a film I’m seriously looking forward to seeing:

Youtube Video

Directed and co-written by Ali Abbasi and filmed in Jordan.

The film is based on the true story of the notorious Iranian serial killer Saeed Hanaei, who murdered 16 women in the city of Mashhad between 2000 and 2001.

Hanaei was one of those “mission-driven” serial killer; during his trial, he claimed that he began killing sex workers after his wife was mistaken for one.

The Iranian media at the time dubbed the murders the “spider killings” because Hanaei would lure the sex workers back to his home, strangle them, then dump their bodies at various places in and around Mashhad. It’s considered one of the most notorious serial killer cases in modern Iranian history.

You may remember these two unfortunates.

The victims of a notorious unsolved 2017 murder were found covered in blood - and their killer took a twisted souvenir, a search warrant has revealed.

Delphi Bridge murder victims Abby Williams, 13, and Libby German, 14, were found to have lost a large amount of blood when discovered dead close to an Indiana hiking trail in February 2017.

‘A large amount of blood was lost by the victims at the crime scene,’ an FBI search warrant read. It did not note how the girls had been wounded, but noted that there were no signs of a ‘struggle or fight.’
The warrant further revealed that the FBI had probable cause to search the home and property of Ron Logan.

He was the owner of the land where the girls’ bloodied bodies were found. They were discovered about 1,400 feet from Logan’s house.

Logan was arrested shortly after the killings, but was never charged, and died in 2020. He was a habitual traffic offender who served time behind bars for his crimes, but is not considered a suspect in the murders of Williams and German.

The 2017 murder of Abby, 13, and Libby, 14, became notorious after investigators released chilling footage the girls recorded of a man following and approaching them across the Manon High Bridge in the woods of Delphi, Indiana.

No. He’s explicitly stating that dumbass Devin Nunes is dumber than a cow and can’t be bothered to get his paperwork in to Google and probably lied to Trump to cover up his incompetency.

Maybe the Republicans are right. I have a list of recently-arrived immigrants who want to see America destroyed.

Rupert Murdoch
Dinesh D’Souza
Melania Trump
Ted Cruz

And Musk is working his way on to it.

there was an episode of Friends where Phoebe realized all the joyful, happy-ending movies she remembered from childhood… her mom just cut the movies off early. So she’s trying to catch up.

“OMG, Pride of the Yankees, it was so sad! The guy got Lou Gehrig’s disease!”
“But Pheebs, the guy was Lou Gehrig. Surely you saw that coming.”
