Evidence? No, no, that’s not how this works. It’s been asserted in a Congressional hearing. That means that Faux News et al. will report it as fact, which then means that a Legitimate News Outlet (tm) has treated it as a fact, which means it must be OK to post on Facebook and Twitter as fact. And just like that, what we know as a lie has suddenly become part of their alternative reality.

There are whitepapers on generating power from medical waste, which seems like a good thing to me. The things lunatics believe are often loosely based on facts that they didn’t quite understand.

Brought forward from the CL pile downstairs:

Fetuses are “burned to power the light’s of the city’s homes and streets,” claimed Catherine Glenn Foster of Americans United for Life.

Total bullshit. The calorie content of the average fetus is too low to offset the moisture content. Aborted tissue is negative to the energy-production equation.

Now, if we had some well-marbled legislators to work with…

Nothing that we know of in nature gets as cold as the atomic gases inside NASA’s Cold Atom Lab, currently orbiting on the @Space_Station.

Here’s what we’re learning at one one-millionth of a degree above absolute zero: go.nasa.gov

That’s a very cool lab, but the coolest was the Smithsonian Center for Short-Lived Phenonema. Unfortunately it was very short-lived (1968-75)

Nonsense. I work from home. When I do meet up with friends, which I do a couple of times a month, everyone gets a rapid test before hand. I don’t see why the next 2 years will be any different than the first 2. We have widely available tests now, which we didn’t before.

For one thing, the rapid tests can take a couple of days to show a positive test after infection, which means you have time to get exposed before your friends know they are. For another, the tests have a false negative rate, meaning that the test might say they aren’t infected when they actually are.

One can stay motivated knowing they’ll catch it. Treatments are improving over time, so pushing the date of infection back has a benefit. I expect to catch it, but I’m not licking doorknobs to get it out of the way, and am dreading the time that it happens.

Fair points. Though most of my friends are in similar situations to mine and are not out socializing several times a week, so chances are that the 2 day window wouldn’t apply. Yes, it’s possible that someone will be infected, won’t have symptoms, and will get a false negative result on the rapid test (around 10% chance with the better tests). I think that there’s still less than 50/50 chance that I’ll catch it in the next 2 years, even without better vaccines, etc. There are a total of 3 houses within a half mile of my house, so I don’t ‘pass people on the street’ or get stuck with people in an elevator, etc.
We don’t live in a bubble, but we’re mindful of conditions in our area.

I recently had a retirement party on Saturday, all attendees were aware of the risks. I socialize much more than most here, that is quite clear. I had not caught covid19 before though. A couple of party attendees were world experts in immunology and pulmonology. My daughter showed symptoms late Sunday, which means that she was probably pre-sympotmatic during my retirement party. The whole four days she stayed with us, not a sniffle, headache, or fever. My wife blames it on a stop our daughter made last Wednesday to eat at Cracker Barrel on the trip down to Alabama, because my wife hates Cracker Barrel with the intensity of a thousand suns.

I tested on Monday - negative

Wife tested on Tuesday night - negative, but had mild symptoms

Immunologist emails me last night, says he tested positive (his wife is still clear).

MsRedState does second test, a clanger of a positive (I am still clear).

Get message this morning, one of the musician/friend/beer geek tested positive.

That is 3 out of 80, hopefully it stops there.

JC1 may reduce their odds significantly, there is no certainty there. For someone like me, it is going to happen (still dodging it) with probability 0.95. I am not particularly concerned because I have been single boosted, and am not above 65 years old. the older you are, the more you have to worry.

Their lies aren’t hurting them at all. If anything, their lies keep their base energized. . They still have a very real chance of flipping Congress in the mid terms. Democrats don’t seem to have a handle on using conservative lies against Republicans.

It’s true. While the mod at our community FB page has really cracked down (and created a politics sub-group, which few use), yesterday when someone expressed frustration about getting formula there was a brief torrent of “welcome to Biden’s world” type posts. A few folks attempted to explain the complexity of the situation, but it was all about the Biden authoritarians who are so incompetent. That’s what Massie et al are courting.

My take on catching covid is this. Even though I am vaxed and twice boosted, I AM going to eventually get it regardless of that. I still mask, social distance and shop during the off hours. But since I have to go out from time to time I AM eventually going to come in contact with some covidiot who refuses to mask up and is contagious. I just hope it is a mild case with out any of the long covid complications.

re: #39 JC1

I haven’t gotten it yet, and I don’t plan on it.

I spent three weeks on a cruise ship during the height of omicron, and another three during the “second surge” of omicron b, or whatever the variant was, and I didn’t catch it (unless I had an asymptomatic case in between the required tests while I was there). I’m careful — I usually didn’t eat in the dining room, so I avoided one major transmission path, for the most part, anyway, but I was around people, some of them very careless and some in denial (no hard line antivaxxers, since we all had to be vaxxed and boosted to be there at all), and I rode on busses and on excursions with those same people and toured places with lots of random people — and I still didn’t catch it.

So we’re back where this started: vaccination greatly reduces your chances of ever getting covid, but not to zero.

Keep in mind that we don’t hear reporting from all the people who haven’t gotten covid after being vaccinated. We’re bound to have a skewed idea of case incidence among vaccinated people.

(Also too, using a state with rational policies with respect to covid, and one whose data I think are trustworthy, if “everyone will get it,” in my state, if infections continue at the current (high-ish) rate, and no-one gets it twice, it will take about fifteen years to infect everyone.)

Keeping with the zero-sum theme that is the right-wing universe, that is to say, in their reality, no one can gain something without someone else losing something.

Republicans are quick to point out economics isn’t a zero-sum game when it comes to Democratic/Left complaints about out of whack income-inequality (hell I used to say this exact same thing during the dark times*), but so quick to forget that claim for everything else. Everything becomes FYJIGM for them.

*I obviously know now that economics not being zero-sum is not mutually exclusive with obscene income-inequality. That’s the unnuanced crap I figured out that helped drive me away from them.

Crockett, who won the party endorsement at the convention, has not spoken publicly about the video, but Hann said he talked to her.

“I have concluded after talking with Ms. Crockett that the depiction of Mr. Soros was not intended as antisemitic, and that neither Ms. Crockett nor her creative team were aware that the depiction of a puppet-master invokes an old but persistent antisemitic trope,” Hann said.

Vos gave Gableman a $676,000, taxpayer-funded budget last year even though recounts, courts and independent reviews had found Joe Biden beat Donald Trump in Wisconsin by nearly 21,000 votes.

American Oversight filed a string of records requests and brought three lawsuits when it didn’t get documents it said it was owed.

Bailey-Rihn said part of the reason there is a dearth of records from the Assembly is because some of those who were hired to assist Gableman did little for the weeks they were paid by taxpayers.
