I am anti-gun. If you want to fondle your gun, you can check it out of the police locker that you pay for and are not allowed to have without insurance and full background checks.

Liberals: The police have a long-documented history of racism, violence, and unaccountability. Only police should have access to firearms.

Conservatives: Government is inherently incompetent, self-serving, and corrupt. It is unconscionable to question police tactics or limit their powers in any way.

I find it disgusting when grown men fetishize weapons and their ownership to the point that their technical knowledge is as some kind of wise maestro. Guns are so rediculously easy to manufacture and fire. Even an 8 year old child can score fucking headshots.

As of 7:35p ET (6:35 CT) news outlets still had the death toll at 14, plus a teacher, and the shooter.

Though several others (numbers unclear) have been taken to hospitals, so its not unlikely the toll may rise further - though one fervently hopes not.

Participants in an insurrection against the U.S. government can be barred from holding office, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit ruled Tuesday.

The decision came in the case of Rep. Madison Cawthorn (R), who before losing his House primary this month faced a challenge from North Carolina voters arguing that his actions around the Jan. 6, 2021, U.S. Capitol attack made him ineligible for future public service. Cawthorn suggested his case was moot given his primary loss, but the court disagreed, given that the election had not yet been certified and because the same issue could come up in another campaign.

The voting rights group Free Speech For People is backing challenges to several Republicans under a post-Civil War law that blocks from taking office anyone “who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress … engaged in insurrection or rebellion.”

Even though Cawthorn won’t be on a ballot this fall, the voters argued that the court had to overturn a lower court’s opinion that all insurrectionists, past and future, were granted amnesty under another law from the 1870s that forgave most Confederates.

Insurrectionists can be barred from office, appeals court says (WaPo)

Love-Child of Cassandra and Sisyphus  May 24, 2022 • 5:31:24pm

In 2019 the Census Bureau bragged:

Voter Turnout Rates Among All Voting Age and Major Racial and Ethnic Groups Were Higher Than in 2014

They especially emphasized:

Among 18- to 29-year-olds, voter turnout went from 20 percent in 2014 to 36 percent in 2018, the largest percentage point increase for any age group — a 79 percent jump.

So yes, a big jump from 2014.

But still only about a third of under-30’s voted in that mid-term election.

If somehow we could get that over 50% turnout, I think we’d see some changes.

That’s why I want gun owners going to prison for substantial time for allowing others to access and misuse their weapons, whether deliberately or through carelessness. Or for their transferring weapons to others who have not passed background checks.

This is an integral part! Control includes who you grant access to or how careless you are with storage.

Lose your freedom finances and future.
Draconian punishment.
It would have zero, absolutely zero effect on responsible law abiding gun owners.

Just like I don’t gaf about duis going to jail or losing their license or vehicle. IT DOESNT AFFECT ME AT ALL.

We need more young people to show up at the midterms.

It’s all to easy, given the entertainment industry focusing on it, to think the Presidency is all that matters.

So mid-term turnout is much lower.

This allows the entrenched religious-right and sour old white folk to get their way during the midterms.

Maybe we should send the gun fetishists to field artillery school or a bomb range, or demonstrate a claymore mine or the Ginsu Hellfire for them, so they can learn that small arms are not some kind of ultimate weapon. In the overall scheme of things, civilian small arms are pipsqueak weapons, suitable for killing dumb animals or other civilians. They are all too good at that though.

Yeah, that’s one hell of a mistake, right there. At that time, the GOP was worthless because it hadn’t learned anything from the Great Depression, and was effectively just a bunch of anti-FDR haters of the New Deal and all its works.

Ike was a political naif, and threw them a life raft when he should have thrown them an anvil. IIRC it was basically both-siderism that led him to that (i.e., the GOP has been out of power too long, therefore it is their turn).

Their pitch is that a massacre will lead to a gun ban, door to door seizures, summary execution of gun advocates, etc.. Consequently, you better stock up while you can and be prepared to resist the BLM thugs, antifa terrorists, and trans groomers the gummint will deputize to carry out these atrocities (since no gawd-fearing police officer would stoop to gun grabbery.)
It makes me wonder just how many times you can run the same scam on the same marks. In this case, the marks seem to have an infinite capacity for being scammed.

It’s a six hour drive from Dallas.

Texas is over 813 miles from Texarkana to El Paso, and 862 miles from Brownsville to Dalhart. And Dalhart is 32 miles from Texline for a grand total of 894 miles.

It’s 802 miles from El Paso to Los Angeles. It is 1051 miles from Texline to Elmore, Saskatchewan.

Texas is really big. And really rural, despite having 5 of the 12 largest cities in its borders (Houston, San Antonio, Dallas, Austin, and Fort Worth). Those cities account for 1/4 of the TX population, but make up 2% of the land. And the population is 28 million.

So there is a lot of MAGA land out there, and it’s just chock full of MAGAts.

The % of Texans who have gotten at least 1 dose of the vaccine is 74.6.

The % of Texans who are fully vaccinated is 62.6.

A year and a half in on full vaccine availability and we are at under 63%? (And not counting boosters!) Fucking pitiful.
