In my quest to hook up both my iMac and Samsung M8 smart TV to my Logitech audio system with optical input, the latest device I’m trying is this one: TROND TV Bluetooth V5.0 Transmitter and Receiver. I’d use it as a Bluetooth receiver, with optical audio out, so hopefully I’ll be able to set both the iMac and M8 TV to output to Bluetooth.

And Eastman probably walked back his 7-2 comment because he realized he was alerting people to the fact he already knew what Thomas, at least, was thinking.

I had a Maine Coon cat that got ahold of a ball of twine and tired herself to the leg of a chair. I had a hard time getting a scissors in between her and the twine to cut her out. It took me a good 30 minutes to cut her lose.

She used to like to sleep on top of the grandfather clock. I think she had a death wish.

The woman to Jacob’s left has the most remarkable resting bitch-face I’ve ever seen.

Not That There’s Anything Wrong With That. Just an observation.

There were a couple of other things that got my attention today.

Like how Trump called Pence a “pussy”? On the phone? From the Oval?

The man is an idiot. And he is without any guardrails, a complete Sociopath.

Observation:

I actually tried to figure out how much this pastors’ shindig would cost and … no information on the tpusa dot com website unless you give your name. Booking a room at the Loews Coronado Bay Resort will set you back a minimum of $413 for Wednesday night, $321 for Thursday night and $328 for Friday night. But I’m thinking the pastors who would come to this are probably leaders of megachurches or wannabe megachurches and living high on the hog from the tithes of the faithful

It’s also interesting that James Lindsay, whose degrees are in physics and mathematics, and who is a declared atheist, is one of the prominent speakers at a *pastors’ conference*. I mentioned his degrees because supposedly he’s an expert on Cathode Ray Tubes, oops, Critical Race Theory.

And because I am who I am, I checked to see if it might be worth protesting. That’s a big NOPE, it’s on an island with only one entrance in and out.

Coronado has two ways in and out, by auto. One is over the Coronado Bay bridge, the other is down the “silver strand” which heads south down to the southern end of the county.

Yes, if they are having a get together in Coronado that means this is for the well heeled.

The town itself is heavily dominated by ex-military.

I never really liked visiting it, though I did go to a 4th of July fireworks show once at the park on the east side of the town.

A slightly older university classmate mentioned this morning that James Eastman graduated from our old school two years before my wife and I started attending. It’s politics department was quite right wing.

So, add him next to Brent Bozell in the Hall of Shame.

I am so fucking glad I ran screaming for the hills after my first semester there, appalled by the empty intellectual pretentiousness and incipient fascism of this Conservative Catholic liberal arts college.

On my way home today, a little after five, I get a notification that the fire department needed the CERT team. When we get called out for these, they need us to set up some type of canteen and help scrub them down. So I did a quick swerve off of the highway because the exit I needed was right where I was.

Luckily, it was a small fire, and we were only out there for about an hour and a half, but it was 100F, and we went through more than two cases of bottled water while they worked to put it out. We had a couple of firemen that ended up just sitting after being in there; the heat plus the fire was too much.

The funny part was that one of the trucks, which for some reason was losing water under one of the wheel wells while it was hooked up to the hydrant (I think it was on purpose because the water coming out of the hydrants was really warm), got stuck in the mud it had created. When I was leaving, they were having to pull it out with another truck.

We finally got around to watching the Snarky Puppy video Charles put up the other day. I noticed the background in the place they were playing. That video was recorded in Deep Ellum. The upcoming album, which will be released in September, was recorded in three weeks in Dallas, which isn’t surprising since a number of members are from DFW, and the band leader and others went to UNT.

It’s with Robert Ray a slick lawyer from the Clinton and trump impeachment.
I fear this guy will be trumps (or whoever gets indicted) defense lawyer.
This guy can argue anything into someone thinking that maybe there’s no crime there.
We can only hope the evidence is so strong there’s no way anybody can defend their way out of a guilty verdict.

The punditry knew that McCarthy was acting in bad faith from the moment the names became public. But they were invested totally in the idea that the only people who cared about 1/6 were Dems who hate Trump, so they had to pretend that Jordan and Banks were anything but bomb-throwers meant to sabotage the committee’s work.

All the people asking “Why didn’t Mike Pence speak up?” don’t quite get that Mike had (and still has) the delusion that he can be president. The man who took the VP nomination because he was about to lose his gubernatorial race, has all the appeal of a bowl of stale gruel, and looks like a refugee from Stepford genuinely believes that the people of America look at him and think “president” and not “a guy more bland than vanilla.”

Certainly, Ukraine is likely getting some of our best intelligence and analysis on Russian and their allies deployments.

I do not think that the MLRS crews that completed training yesterday have already made it to the front lines. More likely, at the earliest would be sometime in the next two weeks. It’s hundreds of miles from the Western Ukrainian border to the Eastern frontlines. And the newly trained crews would still need to actually get to Ukraine from their NATO training grounds first.

UK Home Secretary Priti Patel has approved the extradition of Julian Assange to the United States.

Priti Patel has approved the extradition of WikiLeaks co-founder Julian Assange to the US.

The case passed to the home secretary last month after the supreme court ruled that there were no legal questions over assurances given by US authorities over how he is likely to be treated.

While Patel has given a green light, an expected cross-appeal by Assange’s legal team would restart the clock on a renewed legal battle in the courts.

It is likely to focus on grounds such as the right to freedom of expression and whether the extradition request is politically motivated. Patel had been considering whether the US extradition request met remaining legal tests, including a promise not to execute him.

Pence is no coward. He is just plain evil.

He is evil, just like the rest of the Republicans who want to overthrow democracy so they can install a Fascist government and force their specific version of Christianity down everyone’s throats. They committed a violent coup attempt and only pawns have seen any justice.

Right now Trump, a wretched traitor to democracy and decency, leads Joe Biden in the polls. This speaks volumes about the current entitled, selfish, autocratic state of the American voter. They also now have a pocket SCOTUS ready to ignore any and all precedent in their awful decisions and reject further ruling on outrageously bad lower court decisions. Republicans see the endgame in sight. Pence see the endgame in sight. And Pence is merely acting upon his evil intentions .

They All Knew: In addition to documenting the pressure campaign aimed at Mike Pence, and the consequences of it, the Committee also presented ample evidence that the conspirators—specifically Trump, Eastman, and Giuliani—knew full well that what they were doing was illegal and was likely to incite violence. Several White House insiders, including lawyer Eric Herschmann and Pence chief of staff Marc Short, testified that they warned the trio about the illegality and consequences of their actions, and that Eastman even acknowledged that fact. There were also memos, including one written for Trump, warning that the theories Eastman was peddling had no legal merit and were dangerous.

it would be easier to sell ‘voluntary’ in the deep red states.

i’m a fan of lawsuits against gun owners.
if one is stupid enough not to protect himself with insurance, then he’s toast.
personal responsibility and all that

yes there is the argument how does this help when a gun owner doesnt think he has enough assets worth protecting - why would they voluntarily get insurance?

you still leave them with nothing. you take it all - their guns, bank accounts, cars, houses, garnishment, businesses, all their worldly goods, and sell them

they could have protected themselves from this two ways
1 - control the weapon at all times and avoid the situation
2 - buy insurance, just in case

i like to think after a few judgments, others will take notice

Sorry for the distraction of employees talking about their deranged CEO, rather than the antics of the deranged CEO himself.

SpaceX employees have denounced Elon Musk’s behavior in an open letter sent within an internal company chat system. A day after the release of the document, SpaceX reportedly fired several employees who helped in its distribution.

The letter, first reported and seen by The Verge, criticized the CEO’s Twitter presence and the recent allegations of sexual harassment made against him, which Musk has denied.

According to a report by The New York Times, SpaceX’s president and chief operating officer, Gwynne Shotwell, confirmed in an email that SpaceX “terminated a number of employees involved.”

“The letter, solicitations and general process made employees feel uncomfortable, intimidated and bullied, and/or angry because the letter pressured them to sign onto something that did not reflect their views,” Shotwell reportedly wrote to employees. “We have too much critical work to accomplish and no need for this kind of overreaching activism.”

re: #142 Florida Panhandler

Then why didn’t he go along with the plan to keep tfg in office?

We’ve been here before, they say they’re prepared to work on a “bipartisan” bill, but want Dems to be the ones who set the terms so that “compromise” means Dems giving up major items in the hopes of “passing something,” then proceed to shit over the “compromise” until it finally ends up either stalling out or ending with a piss-poor bill that accomplishes little but gives Dems the temporary high of “passing something.”

Temps are predicted for 100°F tomorrow in Germany, which is very rare. Domestic AC is all but unheard of, and only modern office buildings have any sort of climate control.

I am lucky to live in a century-old farmhouse with 14” thick walls that keep the heat out (at least until about the end of July). And things tend to cool off at night out here in the village, unlike the big city with all its concrete and asphalt heat sinks.

An 84-year-old man and a 75-year-old woman were shot dead at a small church group meeting in Vestavia Hills, Alabama, Thursday night, authorities said.

The suspect — a 71-year-old man who occasionally attended Saint Stephen’s Episcopal Church — is in custody, Vestavia Hills Police said at a news conference Friday.

The gunman also wounded an 84-year-old woman, police said.

The suspect was at the church event, known as the “boomers potluck dinner,” when he took out a handgun and opened fire, police said. A motive is not clear, police said.

If he did that on purpose, it was a stupid and incredibly dangerous move. If not it’s an amazing coincidence. At least in this part of NE you won’t see any anti-Trump stickers. Not that there aren’t anti-Trump people, but either they’re not demonstrative or they fear having their vehicles vandalized. But there are still several homes in my town with numerous Trump flags and signs in their yards. Cranks.
