Jan. 6 Hearing Reveals Trump and John Eastman Knew Their Plan Was Illegal: A Closer Look

I post these videos by late night comedians because they’re a great way to recap the insane events of the past day, with humor and the kind of bullshit-free directness we simply never get from the mainstream media.

Seth takes a closer look at the January 6 committee releasing new evidence that Trump and his lawyer John Eastman knew their plan to overturn the 2020 election would violate the law.

re: #2 Charles Johnson

Conservatives should start using the phrase “trans stripper” in lieu of “drag queen.” It has a more lurid set of connotations and shifts the debate to sexualization.

Liberals should start using the term “Teen Beauty Pageant Dressing Room Peeping Tom” to refer to Donald Trump, it is closer to the truth and shifts the debate to his sick, perverse nature.

The weather is beautiful in Chicagoland today.

The whole Drag Queen controversy goes back to the Fundamentalist notion that homosexuality is such an abomination that it cannot come from God: gays and transsexuals have to seduce and groom young, innocent and unsuspecting souls into their evil lifestyle by nefarious means.

They cannot begin to conceive of the notion of someone being “born that way”.

I know Gacy officially killed 33, but he’s suspected in more unsolved disappearances/homicides. Gacy himself told the authorities he killed 45, but he might’ve been bullshitting - but then again, he might’ve been telling the truth, at least on that.

My friend’s name was William Kendrick. Billy. He was tall, slim, blonde and was a pretty boy. He was a good looking kid with 70s long hair. He supposedly had gotten a construction job. And then he just wasn’t around any longer. No one thought much of it. When you’re in your late teens, people go off and make their own lives. I read about it some years after. When they identified his remains both myself and my friend who’d previously dated him went to the funeral. It was horrible.

And the horrific part of it is, the Chicago cops all too often looked the other way when Gacy would sexually assault a boy and let them go. Which was certainly more than once. Gacy, being something of a well-known and successful entrepreneur, got away with murder for a long time, at least until he murdered Robert Piest. That was what finally got Gacy caught.

Sen. Martin Heinrich (D-NM) “is sounding the alarm over the move by rural Otero County in his state not to certify its primary election results,” Politico reports.

Said Heinrich: “We have to get back to a place where elections are won and lost on math. It is very, very deeply dangerous to democracy for counties or any other certifying agency to start making this political. We lose everything if our elections are not based on math. And, frankly, it robs the people of their will. And it is deeply undemocratic.”

Oh yeah:

“One of the members of the three-member county commission tasked with certifying the election results will be sentenced on Friday for his role in the Jan. 6 insurrection.”

It’s sunny and a bit over 80F, but not terribly humid, and there’s a nice breeze to keep you cool.

Still too warm for me — mid 70’s is my max!

Shithole state.

June 17 (UPI) — Iowa’s Supreme Court Friday ruled there is no state constitutional right to an abortion. The decision reverses a 2018 state Supreme Court decision that affirmed a state constitutional right to abortion.

In Friday’s decision overturning that right to abortion, Iowa Supreme Court Justice Edward Mansfield wrote, “Although we overrule (the 2018 decision), and thus reject the proposition that there is a fundamental right to an abortion in Iowa’s Constitution subjecting abortion regulation to strict scrutiny, we do not at this time decide what constitutional standard should replace it. “

Of course not. But the skew is real - young voters tend to turn out less for non-Presidential elections than for Presidential elections.

This ironically is yet another manifestation of the strong-man-desire in people. The belief is if only the right (i.e., thinks like me) person is on top then things will be fine.

The most important elections are your state elections. After than it is the US Senate (because of the anti-democratic nature it holds) and then the US Congress.

President is just icing on top.

Ouch, not a cheap process either. In the wiki article is a price list from 1925. About $15 then for the materials for 20 exposures (plates and chemicals) or about $250 today. Beautiful stuff but I can see why Kodachrome killed it.

Kodachrome, 1941: Piper J3 cub in the war games refueling at a gas station, probably in Louisiana while horse cavalry rides by in a photo that was the epitome of high tech in its time.

I love the autochromes but it a few more decades many of them will be lost but the Kodachomes will still look like the “greens of summer” of the day they were taken.

Another interesting question would also be the photographer’s intent. We know Adams preferred working in black and white, but, given that these are color, I wonder which of the photographers would have said “I prefer working in this off-tonesld medium” if we handed them a modern camera.

Also, I don’t think the twitter person has implied that he’s restoring the image, but that he’s enhancing it to what a person at that time would have seen. I think he’s actually doing something different.

His justice department will not be prosecuting these individuals; indeed many of those in the department will be criminals who helped support the insurrection. When Hitler took over Germany, the justice system bent to his will. Another Trump term — indeed a Presidential term by almost any contemporary GOP candidate — will bend the system to support their will. Decisions of the ilk of Plessy vs Ferguson and the Dred Scott case will again be the law of the land. There will be no coming back from that. Putin will have achieved his goal of destroying our nation.

He does say that the algorithm he uses for this adds quite a bit of fine detail and smooths what is already there. Autochrome was originally a little grainy. This is why he says his work is an enhancement rather than a restoration. The vivid colors are probably faithful to the original, though. There is much contemporary commentary on the intensity and lifelike tone of autochrome color.

I wonder which is closer to the appearance of the original prints?

the question is which is closer to the appearance of the original scene, surely?

Yowza, that inexpensive bluetooth receiver with optical audio output was delivered, and it works. I can now send audio to my brain-melting Logitech 5.1 sound system from both the iMac and the Samsung M8 smartass TV.

I got to have that subwoofer, crankin’.

re: #207 John Hughes

Not really.

A photograph is an artistic approximation of the original scene in one fraction of a second of time. There is as little in common with what our eyes see as there is in, say, “Impression, Sunrise” by Claude Monet. We tend to think of it as reflecting reality, but the snapshot effect means a photographer is always modifying reality to fit his image of it. A well composed photograph is no different.

The print (or today the JPG or other graphic file) is the expression of what the photographer sees. It has more or less affinity to reality as the artist desires. This was true in the pictorialism, photo-secession, group f/64, etc. to the present with me or Joe Snuffy out with our digital cameras taking portraits, documenting protests or making pretty landscapes such as I am wont to do.

Aesthetically, I prefer the “before” images, but the “afters” remind me of looking through a View-Master toy stereoscope in the 70s, which is good for a nostalgia dopamine hit.

I’m wondering what the odds are on a stroke or heart attack before the end of the year if this gets worse.

The concept of rewriting the constitution through article 5 to remove federal power / unelected bureaucrats will be an amazing sight to witness. I look forward to the removal of the interestate commerce clause and the trade wars that will cause between states.

The lawsuits between states for infringing on their other states rights will be epic.

The creation of free-market drug approval agencies in competition with each other and under the influence of the pharmaceutical companies will do wonders in lowering the Healthcare endpoints on this country even further.

And thise are just some of the really low-hanging fruit that I can come up with in a couple of minutes. It will not be the glorious revolution for freedom that the plebs think it will be; it’s a move to pure feudalism with the 0.1% controlling everything.

Dead kids don’t matter but a bunch of Texas Republicans booing you does.

“Said Cornyn: “Democrats pushed for an assault weapons ban, I said no.
They tried to get a new three-week mandatory waiting period for all gun
purchases, I said no. Universal background checks, magazine bans,
licensing requirements, the list goes on and on and on. And I said no,
no, 1,000 times no.”

///Senator Corny continued,” I said yes to the massacre school children, I said yes to racially motivated hate killings, I said yes to domestic violence murder suicides, I said yes to mass shootings in churches.” And the crowd roared it’s approval.//
