YouTube

Today the Jan. 6th Committee laid out in shocking detail how the former president’s scheme to overturn the 2020 election brought harrowing consequences for the public servants who resisted the pressure to support his lies. Elsewhere, GOP primary voters in Missouri are seeing yet another violent campaign ad from a gun-toting candidate. #Colbert #Comedy #Monologue

Oh… and about that Rusty Bowers guy?

And the “If it’s against Biden” is pure BS smoke. Since if it’s Hillary Clinton, Harris, etc. etc. including the most conservative Democrat possible there will still be some lame excuse to pull the lever for any Republican, including Trump.

Big question is why?
1. He could have been sleeping with some dudes wife,
1. a. He could have been sleeping with some gals husband.
2. A bad business deal.
3. He was about to sell information. If he is with Putin all the time… he probably knows a lot of inside information worth A LOT of money to western countries.
4. He refused to give up the codes.
5. He refused to comply during a launch drill.
6. He refused to comply during a legit launch order by attempting to unalive himself.
7. He was offed to let the football go to someone else.
7. a. Someone less likely to comply with a use of nukes scenario.
7. b. Someone more likely to comply with a use of nukes scenario.
8. Weapons accident during cleaning or some such (legit, not arranged).

I would call 4., 6., and 7.b. as cause to contemplating defecation of diamonds or at least masonry building materials.

The reason for what seems to be the slow pace of these investigations should be obvious given the sheer amount of evidence available.

You can’t tell the whole story without all the evidence.

Rudi Giuliani had no problem telling his story without any evidence to back it up at all…what’s the delay here?

If Putin wanted a different running back holding the football, he could have asked for one and gotten it.

He likely was shot b/c of high crime in Russia.

Besides, if this was effort to get him out of the way, defenestration is Putin’s preferred method other than polonium.

The January 6 Committee laid out new details in the fake elector scheme at its Tuesday hearing, providing a look at how senior Trump officials tried to limit their own involvement in the plan while allowing it to go forward.

In November 2020, Trump was searching for a way to stay in office.

His efforts, the committee showed on Tuesday, coalesced around a plan to swear in alternate slates of pro-Trump electors in states that Joe Biden had won. GOP-controlled state legislatures could then declare the election invalid and approve the pro-Trump electors by January 6, at which point Vice President Mike Pence would reject the legitimate, Biden votes. Or that was the plan.

It’s a wild scheme, and the committee showed on Tuesday two things: that senior Trump officials knew it was insane, and possibly illegal — and that they did nothing to stop it.

The “team normal” bulkshit is how they described themselves as compared to team crazy.

Both were fucking insane, and team “normal” still broke the law, violated their oaths of office, and failed to report the criminal conduct to the DOJ. Lawyers who saw all this go down failed to report it as officers of the court. They should lose their jobs and be disbarred as well. Zero tolerance. They were silent and assented to the misconduct of others, knowing full well that the contemplated conduct was criminal.

Justice Dept. expands Jan. 6 probe with fresh subpoenas

Prosecutors appear focused on how political activists supporting Donald Trump tried to use invalid electors to thwart Joe Biden’s 2020 victory.

The Justice Department’s investigation of the Jan. 6 attack ratcheted up Wednesday as federal agents dropped subpoenas on people in at least two states, in what appeared to be a widening probe of how political activists supporting President Donald Trump tried to use invalid electors to thwart Joe Biden’s 2020 electoral victory.

Your coding to keep twitter from crashing these pages when they get too large (long-winded bunch that we are) is great, but one side effect is that when you have a tweet in the page you post, it’s also in your “codeless” form, and there’s no way to reload it to get to the tweet as posted on twitter, the way we can with individual comments.

yes, it is performative nonsense

electoral-vote.com this AM, edited a bit

As you can presumably tell, we are rather underwhelmed by the proposal. We’ve written, several times, that something is better than nothing, but this particular something is barely more than nothing, given how very much the bill accommodates the wishes of the NRA and other gun lobbies.

Tougher background checks - hard to get too excited about a provision that sunsets and wouldnt have stopped Uvalde or Buffalo

“Boyfriend” loophole - Maybe we’re crazy, but here’s a thought: How about all domestic violence convictions…How does it make any sense that it only matters if the target is a romantic partner? And exactly how are they going to prove whether or not someone was a boyfriend or a girlfriend?

Expansion of mental health services: …mostly involves encouraging states that want to expand such services.

Ref flag laws - The careful reader will note that this is far short of a federal red flag law…In short, at best, a few more states will end up with red flag laws, and those laws will be pretty wishy-washy.

Straw purchasers, gun runners: maybe some teeth here

Who is a dealer?: …Reading it over, we think the provisions will be pretty easily subverted.

The real issue is all about being a “person”.

no.
it is true that the [sic] ‘unborn’ are human. duh.
they are not humans
(i see what you did there)

the question is when, in the seamless progression from long before fertilization to birth, it ‘becomes’ a single, discrete human life with constitutional rights and protections

the slope of the trajectory from ‘beginning’ to born child is gradual with no discernible point at which personhood is unambiguously identified, therefore they must push personhood from the beginning.

“personhood” is a legal argument. it is neither a scientific nor a religious one.

in this battle, ANY point at which a constitutionally protected human life is defined by law is somewhat arbitrary because similarly there is no dispassionate objective point.

I’m fine with an arbitrary legal place - let’s just recognize that it is that, not some “religiously justified” legal place

The problem with both pilots and surgeons is that if there is a shortage, it takes a long time to train new ones to make up the difference. As far as I am concerned, flying most of the time is nonessential, so you fly fewer routes and tell your customers to suck it up. A little harder to do that with surgeons though.

I was working at the airport in Phoenix when it hit 122. Planes couldn’t take off because the airlines didn’t have performance charts for anything higher than 120. That was a weird day.

Back in the 1980’s I spent some time in Ft Sill, Oklahoma as an Aerial Observer. Basically I sat in a light observation helicopter and called in artillery. What a drone does today. And with a much shorter expected battle lifespan.

Summer in Western Oklahoma, during a heat wave, with that dry air was always “interesting”. There were occasions when the helicopter (according to the pilot) had trouble with lift. We often flew over to the impact zone and then just sat on top of a hill while I called in artillery.

I also suspect that the pilot was not interested in testing the “Big Sky, Small Artillery Shell” theory.

My biggest mistake was on the first mission. As we returned from calling in artillery, the pilot did a detour mentioning that there was an isolated area known for ladies engaging in nude sunbathing. (Lake Edward Thomas Recreational Area or LETRA, iirc.)

My mistake was pointing out a couple of people near the identified spot. The pilot then adjusted the helicopter’s position for his viewing benefit.

I realized my mistake as I saw the horizon go from, well horizontal, to what seemed fairly close to vertical. Did I mention that there were no doors on that helicopter? (Cue in jokes about “Least Cost Bidder”.)

One of the friends at this week’s Monday night zoom meeting was a flight attendant who retired during Covid; he’s in his 70’s. I think he initiated our conversation about the mess that the airline industry is in right now. Apparently, the airlines used the decline in travel as an opportunity to retire many of the expensive older (experienced) pilots and flight attendants. The airlines thought it would be years before air travel would recover from the pandemic decline and were totally unprepared for flights to return with a vengeance in such a short period of time.

Are you saying you don’t LOVE an atmospheric phenomenon that usually goes hand-in-hand with extreme heat and primarily serves to neutralize the human body’s natural cooling mechanism?

Yeah, I found out today I need cataract surgery in my right eye fairly soon. Hopefully I have insurance that will at least cover the basic surgery, I knew this was coming but it’s progressed faster than the doc likes to see. My vision in that eye is a bit foggy sometimes and it’s got worse since my husband’s death. Soooo, tomorrow is yet another day on the phone. I really need a fucking break, and not an arm or something for gods sake.

Most medical policies cover cataract surgery although they might not cover certain types of lens implants.

This is my last “Train” song and DAC is nuts and even back in the day when I would walk into an unknown tap or bar or wayside if DAC was on…well….You was where you was…and you best sit with an exit handy.
