Fifty migrants are believed to have died after they and others were found in sweltering conditions in a semitruck in San Antonio, a federal law enforcement official said Tuesday, in a scene the mayor called a “horrific human tragedy.”
The death toll, which the city’s fire chief gave Monday as 46, includes migrants from Mexico, Guatemala and Honduras, according to the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity. Their discovery Monday comes as US federal authorities have launched an “unprecedented” operation to disrupt human smuggling networks amid an influx of migrants at the US-Mexico border.

Amazing that as fucked up a country as we are these days, all these people STILL want to come here.
Unreal. Definitely not a union operator.
A Vermont man was caught on camera wildly swinging an excavator at two state troopers who were trying to take his son into custody.
The troopers had gone to Wayne Tallman’s home in Hardwick earlier this month to arrest his 24-year-old son, Brandon Tallman, in relation to an assault and burglary case, police said.
As the troopers were trying to cuff the son, Tallman allegedly jumped behind the controls of the excavator and set it in motion.
Dashcam footage from June 12 showed the dad repeatedly swinging the excavator’s bucket towards the troopers as they wrestled with Brandon on the driveway.
The troopers could be seen trying to dodge the machinery as they pinned Brandon to the ground.

Trump issued the code red.
He had his lackeys at the DOJ and in Congress slow roll the response to maximize the chances that the insurrectionists would storm the Capitol and succeed in stopping the certification process. At that point, he’d then announce he was the winner and it’d be a fait accomplis.
This was a seditious conspiracy and everyone knows it. Jordan, Meadows, all of them were in on this, and were fine ending democracy because they’d be assured of prime seats of power.

Hearing and seeing proof that they knew - STRAIGHT-UP FUCKING KNEW IN ADVANCE - that shit was going to get ugly, and they intentionally encouraged it, from the top all the way down… Honestly, I’m kinda shaken. Amazing that as fucked up a country as we are these days, all these people STILL want to come here.
Let’s not forget that, that most of the world has so much of a lower income than America, Western Europe, and the developed parts of East Asia.
Income per capita (PPP), i.e. _adjusted_ for cost of living differences.
USA — 60,000$
Upper middle income countries (e.g China or Mexico) - 17,000$
Lower middle income countries (e.g. Guatemala or India) - 7,000$
Poor countries (e.g Congo) - 1,000$
If you look purely at exchange rate differences, the differences are far greater, and someone seeing the differences can be more tempted to travel here, not realizing the much higher cost of living in America.
America can sadly be _far_ shittier and still have lots of people want to come here. Mexico is _almost_ nearing the point where fewer people want to come here (and during downturns we will see people returning to Mexico), but most of the world still has a lower average income than Mexico.

What we’re hearing here is seditious conspiracy to topple the US government directly implicating Trump and Meadows.
They knew, and they encouraged it. They wanted the violence to occur because they thought they could invoke laws that would allow Trump to remain in power indefinitely.
They all knew Trump lost.
So, why hold the emergency hearing today? Lock the witness in. Coordination with the DOJ to make the evidence public and put pressure on others to come forward to cooperate? Compelling Garland to indict Trumpworld directly?
I hope it’s the latter. Because the evidence demands indictments and prosecutions for these crimes.
There’s a reason Fox is purposefully ignoring the hearings and trying to distract and deflect. They know this is devastating evidence implicating Trump personally and directly in the seditious conspiracy to topple the government. They know it directly implicates Trump in interfering in the certification of the election, itself a felony. They know that it was an attempt to interfere in the election certification (also a felony). These are all federal felonies, and they know that Trump should have been removed via impeachment.

Most importantly, we’re told Hutchinson’s firsthand account - her direct testimony and evidence - meaningfully informs the hearings the panel has planned for July. There have also been “sincere concerns” about Hutchinson’s physical security because of what she knows and has revealed to the committee, we’re told.Due to these reasons, select committee members felt they had to hold the hearing today and couldn’t wait until the House returns from recess in mid-July. ROGER STONE!!!
whoever that is talking right now
To sum:
This witness, who was a participant in the events, meetings, and conversations, stated that Trump knew that members of the insurrectionists were heavily armed, were intent on disrupting the proceedings at the Capitol, which includes the certification of the election results that found Biden won, and was fearless as to those armed individuals not being there to harm Trump; they were there to harm others - Trump’s political enemies.
This is a seditious conspiracy. And the DOJ has to act. All of the elements of the crimes are present and accounted for. The evidence is there to support the indictments. Not just for incitement, but for seditious conspiracy. Attempt to overthrow the government. Attempt to interfere in the election certification.
All of these are felonies.

One stupid-MAGAt talking point I’ve been hearing is that the hearings deny due process because Repug lawyers are not being allowed to cross examine witnesses. YOU MORONS, this is not a trial. It is an evidentiary hearing. Are the suspect’s lawyers allowed to cross examine witnesses during police interviews?
Of course, Repug leaders like Hannity, Jordan, and Jones know that their ignorant base will conflate this proceeding with what they see on fictional TV courtroom dramas, and they tailor their lies accordingly.

Trump may find a way to avoid prison, but I sure as shit don’t see at this point how he doesn’t get indicted, in both D.C. and Georgia. They didn’t get a warrant to seize evidence from both Eastman and Clark for nothing.
After that testimony I’m actually slightly more hopeful that Trump won’t walk away a free man.

Regarding hearsay:
Note: all of this is hearsay. But it may or may not be admissible hearsay (admission against interest?) and it’s *DEFINITELY* a sufficient basis to open a criminal investigation and try to get direct testimony. This is insanity
— Akiva Cohen (@AkivaMCohen) June 28, 2022
Again, this is enough for even the feds to very seriously consider charging him on an incitement theory.
Your average DA would already be tipping off the press about when and where to film the perp walk.https://t.co/4ou7Y0lw24— BrandenburgTestHat (@Popehat) June 28, 2022
Prosecutors would be going after Trump and his goons for witness tampering too, and heaping all kinds of other charges on for good measure. That’s where we’re at.
DOJ has to act.
Was this hearing designed to spur the DOJ to indict multiple people in Trumpworld?
Because it should. The evidence has been there all along, and the conspiracy continues with ongoing witness tampering/witness intimidation efforts by Trumpworld to silence those who’d testify against him.
re: #294 lawhawk
It’s way past time to arrest a few dozen senior Republicans, including Trump, and toss them into Gitmo.
re: #293 Dopamine Fish
FRE 801. Hearsay rule.
This would likely fall under 801(d)(2).
Add the various rules under 803, and there’s all kinds of evidence that would be admissible linking Trump, Meadows, Stone, and others to felony conduct.

Did we not once have legislation to prevent investment banks from getting involved in this market?

Annual single family home sales are in the mid 7 figure range. The top five companies are buying ~ 25k houses per year combined. That’s a rounding error. There are many factors for the supply imbalance in housing, but I doubt that PE companies buying up houses makes it into the top 10.
re: #292 Charles Johnson
It’s going to be the trial of the century, without that even being hyperbole. I see indictments coming, at a minimum, for Trump, Meadows, Eastman, Clark, and who knows how many other Trumpworld figures. Let’s hope a Republican doesn’t get into the WH in 2025 and pardons Trump “so the nation can heal.”
re: #289 gwangung
This is almost like the 21st Century version of redlining, with the targeting of Black-owned homes.
We are seeing Final Stage Capitalism rearing its head again: there was a time when home ownership was considered a social virtue and was granted certain exemptions from the purely market economy, like Glass-Steagall.
Now housing is just another commodity to be sold to the highest bidder.

Meadows, Eastman are slam dunks for indictments. Clark I know less about, so I’ll trust your judgment. I still worry about Trump. I know he’s got a lot of irons in the fire when it comes to being investigated, but he’s got a lot of fanatical people who are loyal to him and him alone. That confers a lot of power.
Did Trump commit a crime? “This is the smoking gun,” Sol Wisenberg, a former deputy to Ken Starr, tells me about today’s hearing. “There isn’t any question this establishes a prima facie case for his criminal culpability on seditious conspiracy charges.”
— Peter Baker (@peterbakernyt) June 28, 2022
Everyone fucking knows Trump engaged in criminal conduct and should be prosecuted for multiple felonies, including seditious conspiracy. And yet, there’s GOPers who will bend over backwards, triple Lindy pretzel logic their way to claim that Trump isn’t criminal and the real crime is investigating Trump’s endless crime spree and that Hunter is the real criminal.
They’re still fucking at it at the GOP.
Of course, those braying loudest like Jordan sought pardons from Trump because they knew what Trump and they were doing was illegal as all fuck. They were all engaging in crimes and did them anyways.

Meadows is going to jail. That’s no longer a question.

Meadows is going to jail. That’s no longer a question.
It’s no longer a question of if, but which one and for how long.
Of course, if a GOPer gets in the WH, expect them to throw pardons at every last one of these seditious treasonweasels. Because that’s how they operate. Party over nation and cover up the crimes with still more ones.
re: #304 lawhawk
There ought to be no need for these hearings: Trump was engaged in blatant conflicts of interest, violations of the Emoluments Clause and tampering with investigations.
That should have been enough to remove him from office years ago.

History is rhyming again. The impeachments of Trump were essential even though the votes in the Senate were never there. Now criminal charges for Trump and the rest of his conspiracy are essential, despite the grave difficulties there will be in getting convictions. I have no idea how to ensure Trumpists aren’t on the juries, and it only takes one to fuck up a case.
Why did Flynn take the fifth when asked if he supports the peaceful transfer of power?
Because he didn’t want to lie under oath and say “yes.”— Charles Johnson (@Green_Footballs) June 28, 2022
re: #304 lawhawk
The other thing to remember, too, is that the Senate GOP is looking at all of this and going, “Yep, this is fine, this is cool, this wasn’t worth removing him from office over.” Because they stood to gain if he won; Pence would’ve been VP, McConnell would be Senate Majority Leader, they would have all their power back.
re: #310 Dopamine Fish
The GOP would have lost its base. They vote for Trump, not the party.

Investigate the backgrounds of everyone in the jury pool, especially their social media. Unless they are very sophisticated, they will have left traces of their political views somewhere.

For now. There’s serious societal impact if this gets any larger.
America as a middle class country, requires that property ownership be something in the reach of the vast majority of Americans. If due to increased prices, and corporates lockup the housing market (e.g, how Crown(?) Capital’s vulture purchases of foreclosed houses), there are more people locked in to renting forever, always paying off the owner of capital rather than paying toward’s their own ownership, and not being able to give capital to their descendants* Even if this was never the case in reality (redlining, etc), it has at least been an aspirational goal of society.
*And yes there are other concerns that impact this too, like @#$@#$ medical costs.

After all, what kind of threat is, “Take me to the Capitol at once, or I’ll raise my little partition and not strangle you?”
