Cassidy Hutchison testified she was told about Trump lunging for the steering wheel in Engel’s presence and he didn’t deny it then. Can’t imagine why she would lie about this.

It occurred on January 6th when his Secret Service drivers refused to drive him to the Capitol after his rally.

Can anyone, and I mean anyone with a functioning eyeballs, see trump being able to lunge at anyone? I’m having a hard time seeing him grabbing the steering wheel unless he was in the passenger seat… But lunging for someone’s throat? I just cannot see it. Hearsay based on hyperbole.

Still, I hope that fucker goed to prison.

The most horrifying aspect of these revelations is that the 26-year-old Cassidy Hutchinson isn’t the only one who knows all of this. Yet out of all the president’s aides—a collection of well-established lawyers, people with fat media contracts, and military men with pensions—she’s the one who was willing to testify under oath about it

Top accounting firm fined $100 million after employees cheated on CPA exams

New York (CNN Business)Ernst & Young has been slapped with a record $100 million fine from the US government after regulators discovered that the company knew some of its auditors were cheating on exams for several years and did nothing to stop it.

The Securities and Exchange Commission said Tuesday that a “significant number” of the accounting firm’s auditors cheated on the ethics portion of the Certified Public Accountant test and other courses needed to maintain the licenses. Perhaps more stunningly, the SEC said that Ernst & Young “made a submission” that it didn’t have “current issues with cheating when, in fact, the firm had been informed of potential cheating on a CPA ethics exam.”

The $100 million fine is its largest ever against an auditing firm.

“This action involves breaches of trust by gatekeepers within the gatekeeper entrusted to audit many of our nation’s public companies,” said Gurbir Grewal, director of the SEC’s Enforcement Division, in a press release. “It’s simply outrageous that the very professionals responsible for catching cheating by clients cheated on ethics exams of all things.”

He added that it’s “equally shocking” they hindered its investigation. “This action should serve as a clear message that the SEC will not tolerate integrity failures by independent auditors who choose the easier wrong over the harder right,” Grewal said.

In addition to the fine, the SEC ordered Ernst & Young to retain two independent consultants to “help remediate its deficiencies,” with one firm reviewing the company’s procedures on ethics and another on its disclosure failures.

Ernst & Young said in a statement that “nothing is more important than our integrity and our ethics” and that it is complying with the SEC’s order.

“We have repeatedly and consistently taken steps to reinforce our culture of compliance, ethics, and integrity in the past,” an spokesperson for the firm said. “We will continue to take extensive actions, including disciplinary steps, training, monitoring, and communications that will further strengthen our commitment in the future.”

The fine is double the one KPMG was ordered to pay in 2019 for similar allegations of cheating.

The significance of the testimony about Trump lunging for the steering wheel.

I agree it’s significant, and most likely true. But if it can’t be proved true, that will be a gift to Trump apologists.

My suspicion is that the Secret Service has a long-standing policy to be a black hole for information about any president, and they will stick to their guns with Trump. It’s easy to see why this would make sense for the secret service as an institution (if they don’t always and consistently have the Cone of Silence for presidents, they will spend all their time getting interrogated by the media and by opposition members of Congress.)

That said, overt treason like what Trump has done is justification for the secret service to change its stance as an exception to usual practice.

Isn’t abortion a deeply ingrained practice in Jewish religion?

I’m not a Talmudic scholar, but I took a quick look and found this:

If a woman was experiencing difficulty in labor, they dismember the foetus inside her and remove it limb by limb, for her life has priority over [that of the unborn] foetus. But if it had mostly emerged they do not touch it, since no life has priority over another.

—Ohalot, ch 7

Pretty explicit about when the life of a fetus achieves parity with that of the mother. On the other hand, most if not all orthodox rabbis would say that abortion is forbidden unless the life or health of the mother is at stake.

My company, partially located in Texas, sent this out:

Friday’s U.S. Supreme Court ruling overturning Roe v. Wade has prompted many questions and understandably strong reactions.

Let me be clear - as a company, employee health and wellness are core L3Harris priorities and we will continue to ensure all of our U.S. employees have consistent, safe, and confidential access to the benefits we provide. We offer comprehensive benefits, including those that support reproductive health. Our health plans have historically covered travel for certain services. Beginning July 1, we will expand this benefit to include all covered services, up to plan limits, for enrolled U.S. employees and dependents whose care options are limited in their local community. If you have questions about these benefits, contact CIGNA member services at [no phone numbers allowed].

We know there will be intense public debate as we process our individual feelings related to the Supreme Court ruling, and have no doubt our employees will likewise have wide-ranging views on the issue - views that are complicated and deeply personal. Staying true to our values, I ask that you remain empathetic and respectful to differing points of view.

No matter where your personal views fall, we are here to support you. Our Employee Assistance Program is easily accessible, and we offer counseling and other services for you and family members seeking guidance, help, or someone to talk to.

If Dave Wasserman is correct, the US House gets a wingnut from NE-1 (R hold), and the Unicameral keeps Pansing-Brooks (D hold), and Ricketts doesn’t get to replace her and overthrow abortion access in Nebraska.

The district is R+11, so a race this close means Democratic voters were motivated to get out in a special election.

As far as strategic voting goes, Pansing-Brooks staying in the statehouse makes it harder for Ricketts to strip women’s rights.

Well, the crazed tea party/Evangelical faction the old GOP establishment thought it could use and control has taken over completely and it now IS the GOP establishment. It’s as though Frankenstein’s monster evicted the doctor and took over the estate; deed, title and all.

Not the Beast, but an SUV. There’s a Secret Service man standing in the way, but an unusual amount of movement back and forth from someone is visible through the window, before it gets rolling.

Wow, almost a quarter of the voters turned out in NE-1. You get the ballot in the mail here, you fill it out, you put it back in the mail. What’s so hard about that?

Flood now leads Pansing-Brooks.

330/414 precincts counted. 84 precincts partially counted.

Mike Flood (R): 56,085
Patty Pansing-Brooks: 51,662

My pessimism is telling me that rural America (yes, I know, Omaha is a medium sized city, but it is still part of rural America) has now become so entrenched in resentment politics and that resentment has found a home in the GOP’s religious-right dominated machine … that we are in for a long haul in regards to avoiding slipping into some terrible right-wing dictatorship.

Even the Never-Trumpers in the GOP will embrace such a slide into fascism. They just didn’t like Trump’s ickiness. If a Republican more polite, more smooth, and less brazen with his immorality had been elected instead of Trump but did the exact same things Trump did… then the Never Trumpers would go along with such a person.

Pansing-Brooks represents Lincoln, not Omaha. As for Omaha, in the 2020 election the electoral vote went to Biden but Bacon was reëlected (it is a real swing district). Since then, the GOP tried to gerrymander NE-2 by splitting it in half and cutting part of my district into it, but failed in court. NE-1 was heavily-gerrymandered already.

I only mentioned Omaha because it is a medium sized city so when I wrote of “rural” some may have objected to me including it.

re: #38 The Pie Overlord!

So, swarms of flying monkeybots with signup dates of April 2022 or later, are spamming Peter Alexander’s Tweet about some “unnamed source within the Secret Service” like that’s proof of SHE LIED!!!! something something as if the 1/6 Committee didn’t bother to vet and verify this testimony the first time they heard it.

The Commission isn’t going to bring her to testify in public if they didn’t already know the answers to the questions being posed. The Commission isn’t going to bring her to testify as to these specific events and incidents, unless they had corroborating evidence, and anyone claiming to the contrary isn’t testifying under oath, and is instead basing their claims that these events didn’t occur as claimed on unnamed sources who aren’t testifying under oath.

Hutchinson was testifying under oath, and lies under oath are punishable as perjury. I believe her.

There’s no reason not to. We know what Trump was capable of doing, and we know what everyone around Trump was doing. They all were seeking pardons for criminal conduct, and carried out the criminal acts anyways. There remains an ongoing seditious conspiracy as indicated by ongoing witness tampering and interfering in federal investigations.

The GOP knows all this, which is why they’re so desperate to deflect and distract, by claiming that specifics of Hutchinson’s testimony were wrong, lies, etc., or simply fixating on Hunter Biden.

You know how bad things are going for Trumpworld and the GOP by how prominently Hunter Biden plays on Fox in large font. You know how bad things are for the GOP when they caterwaul about inflation, all while having no plan to actually do anything about inflation or high oil prices or that inflation and energy prices are a global phenomenon and US inflation and energy prices are actually moderate compared to Europe and parts of Asia and the rest of the world.
