LYRICS
picking up the tyres from the side of the road
gonna push back the coming tide
lay them in the harbour in symmetrical rows
disappear when the water is high

setting and regretting now my sneakers are soaked
so they’re drying in the sun outside
it’s not what I intended when I woke up the house
i was screaming “we’re all gonna die”

and now we’re all in late trains
racing the motorway

getting rhyme over reason
it’s a sinister silly season
maybe we can end up meaning a real thing

picking up the tyres from the side of the road
gonna push back the coming tide
laying down beside them like I’m in on the joke
wake me up when the world is fried
and you’re sorry, I see it when you open your mouth
you’ve got one hand over your heart while you’re holding me down
oh I want to hope but if that’s not allowed
I guess I’ll go out instead

now we’re all in relay
we all admit it’s strange

NARA, Japan—The shooting of ex-Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has had unexpected political blowback. The killer attacked Abe not for his political beliefs, but because he wanted to take revenge upon the South Korea-based Unification Church—sometimes labeled a ‘cult’—which he blamed for ruining his family and his life.

Instead of rallying behind Abe, the Japanese people have followed the killer’s wishes and turned their attention to long-standing but little discussed links between the ruling party and the Moonies.

Tetsuya Yamagami told police that he had originally planned to assassinate Hak Ja Han Moon, the head of the church, which is known for holding mass weddings and backing right-wing politicians worldwide, but then decided to target Abe.

Before shooting Abe, he wrote a letter to a freelance journalist—obtained by The Daily Beast—explaining that he murdered Abe in order to expose the deep links between Japan’s ruling party, the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), and the Unification Church.

The Unification Church under various names and guises has not only cultivated strong ties with Japanese politicians, especially the Liberal Democratic Party, but has also managed to forge tight connections to the Republican Party in the U.S., links intensified under President Donald Trump.

One of the sons of Reverend Moon, Hyung Jin “Sean” Moon, created a splinter group, Rod of Iron Ministries, that worships with AR-15s and virulently supports Trump. Sean Moon and congregation members were not only allegedly present at the Jan. 6 insurrection but are seemingly connected to some MAGA megastars. Steve Bannon called into the group’s Freedom Festival last October.

Well I just had my first lesson on the new electronic poll books. They are Windows based and so far it seems to work well. According to the manufacturer, ESS, we are supposed to have another lesson around September/October along with are usual Election Day instruction. Voting is finally entering the 21st Century.

Sometimes, the songs grow on you, and sometimes it’s that song that’s a hidden gem. When Encanto was released, “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” was the big hype song, even here on Czech radio.

But for me, this song was the real banger. Amazing vocal performance by Jessica Darrow and the music and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda are just absolute perfection. Easily one of the greatest songs in Disney’s musical canon.

As a vet, I’ve always hated mines and consider any deployment that doesn’t have automatic self-destruct timers to be a criminal act.

The _only_ good story I’ve ever read about mines was in the aftermath of the Falklands war. Only the penguins were too light to not set them off and they could be safe in the minefields.

If you have no choice except to choose between a fascist and a crook, you choose the crook, because sitting it out or voting for a candidate who can’t win helps the fascist win.

Repug backup plan, in the likely event that Trump croaks or is otherwise not available in 2024.
Vladimir Putin was allegedly born in (then) Leningrad in 1952. By 2024, though, the Russian government will release documents showing that he was actually born in Los Angeles, where his parents were on a deep cover KGB assignment passing out Soviet bribe money to Hollywood producers and screen writers. As official Russian documents, these will be accepted as holy writ by American conservatives, and he will be nominated for President of the United States as a worthy successor to God’s Annointed, Donald J. Trump.

I’ve said it before, but keep your eyes on Gunstock Mountain ski resort in Belknap County, NH. It’s owned by the county it’s in and is being undermined by Free State Extremists who don’t believe in public entities. The community is fighting back, and they aren’t all liberals. It brings into relief the wishy washy policies of the Republican governor Sununu as well.

All the way through my 40s I have been a runner. Then I just stopped when we moved to NH. No excuses. Then over the pandemic I put on major weight. Today I got a new pair of running shoes and ran for 10 minutes. It was all I could do. In my 20s I ran three marathons within a few seconds of 3 hours on either side. I hate to say this but when I was in High School I held my position on the rings for 1 minute. According to the physical fitness tests at the time that was considered excellent.

For the guitar people here: I have a Music Man RD-110 amp. I have owned it since 1982. I have never changed the tubes and it still chimes well and has decent distortion from the Solid State side. Should I change the tubes just for the heck of it? They are 40 years old.

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

That’s what an old band mate just texted. I think I just need to practice more and get some lessons. My fall back for being a shitty player is: blame the equipment.

After forced birth Justices lied about their intention to reverse Roe at the first available opportunity in order to get on the Court, Michigan forced birthers are salty that a presumably pro-choice judge won’t recuse herself. Suck it, assholes.

Could not agree more. My favorite beaches start in Santa Barbara and it just keeps getting better at least to Morro Bay.

His Covid slush fund (“Congress doesn’t need to provide oversight. I’m the oversight.”) put a lot of money in a lot of cronies’ pockets. Billions of dollars.

And, of course, Mitch McConnell’s judges project.

(when Esper was on Colbert and said he’d put up the crap for so long because this policy and that policy and blah blah, Colbert’s response was “but those are generic Republican policies. A mannequin with an elephant stapled to his tie could have done that.”)

Did a quick dig. It’s a tube/SS hybrid (or not, all tube) and has glowing reviews.
For my two cents, I did not think my 1966 Pro Reverb needed new tubes many moon ago. I was wrong.
Your amp uses 6L6 as the PR does. Big bottle.
Am I correct? Then a pre amp AX 12 or two?
My PR jumped into a new world with new tubes, but your friend has a point.
It won’t break you. Pull them, check for black marks. Look at them when they cooking. Should be even light.
What name is on them?
Selling old tubes is a minefield. Different watts, blah blah, can cook them.
Sounds like a keeper.
Always wanted a 2X10 MM.

I used to take my kids to Scripps Birch Aquarium in La Jolla vs going to Sea World 20 years ago. Very beautiful and educational! Also I think I was the first person to ever yell “it sucks to be a mammal at Sea World!” on premises as I swilled cheap Budweiser in the cheap seats at Shamu Stadium and took in the exploitation of orca, dolphins, horses -and humans, and never returned after the first visit
