Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg makes the case for a Made in America electric vehicle revolution, and explains why the U.S. should be investing more into high-speed rail travel, why it’s important to know your rights as air consumers, and how infrastructure is supposed to connect people, not divide them. #DailyShow #Comedy

Having been the victim of the Portal Bridge failures on more than a few occasions over the years, that the bridge will finally get replaced in my lifetime is a huge accomplishment. That bridge has been a bottleneck for decades, and delays caused by the bridge can quickly bring the entire Northeast Corridor to a standstill.

450 trains use that bridge daily, carrying hundreds of thousands of Americans.

The new bridge will improve reliability and increase speed through the area, as the top speed is currently limited to 60 mph.

The new bridge will support speeds that are 50% higher (90 mph). That’ll be a huge improvement, although the bottleneck to the north remains - the Hudson River tunnels. That’s part of the Gateway tunnel project, which should be getting underway soon too.

Hey man… nice shot… but…

Nope.. hey man, nice shot.

That’s it.

These fucking fascists are hellbent on trying to spin good news as bad, because they know that the economy isn’t going to help them regain the WH, and the GOP doesn’t have an economic policy or a social policy that a majority of Americans want. The GOP are a minority party that is essentially and purposefully a Christian white nationalist fascist in intent and action.

All of these people trying to spin Zawahiri’s death are running at the mouth, and are a redux of the same ones who tried to knock Obama when he took out OBL. They’re all trying to make distractions and deflections from fact that Trump had opportunities to get Zawahiri, but didn’t know who he even was. That’s damning, since everyone of a certain age or older should know who he was - and Trump should have been getting PDBs, which had more info about all of these terror groups, but I guess the PDB doesn’t come across the same way when it’s done in crayon and Sharpie.

Doctors cannot be prosecuted for emergency abortion services. If a patent is in distress they are to abort as needed without committees to make determinations. Basically turning the recently passed restrictions irrelevant.

I put a 5lb boneless leg of lamb in the sous vide last night at 136 degrees. It’s been in for 19 hours now (5 to go)…seasoned with Ottolenghi’s shawarma seasoning. - another reader suggested sous vide and finish on the grill so that’s what I’m doing. But my house already smells like lamb shawarma. Need to go pick up some hummus and some pita and some yogurt today.

This was at 4pm yesterday when it went into the water.

Another stupid strawman from a Repug leader, knowing that the brain-dead base eats this stuff up as the very height of wit and clever rhetoric. Jackson is a little different from Repug demogogues like Gohmert and Massi, though. The latter are basically intelligent but depraved individuals who pander to what they know is a stupid, brutal base. Jackson, though, really is as stupid as the base, or nearly so.

“Leader” is not automatically a term of praise and I don’t need a bullshit correction based on the assumption that it is. You can apply whatever retroactive definition of “leader” you like but don’t pretend that it contradicts a different, but perfectly valid, definition that I applied earlier. Jackson, Gohmert et al, ARE Republican leaders, along with Tucker Carlson, Alex Jones and a host of other degenerates.

Same people who are busy claiming that Obama and then Biden wrecked the US military will ignore that the RX9 used was developed under Obama, and deployed with success by Biden, because Trump refused to use it against an intended target - Zawahiri.

We still spend more on defense than next 10 countries combined - and that includes not only rivals like China or Russia but allies like Germany, France, and UK.

We spend more than 10x as much as Russia does. We spend 3x as much as China.

We’re seeing how the manly manly Russian military is doing - they’re scraping the bottom of the barrel with conscripts, equipment from 30-50 years ago, and logistics practices that go back to WWII. They’re at a standstill against Ukraine, and the Ukrainians are holding their own despite a far smaller military and capabilities thanks to the US.

Every other country is playing catchup on tech innovation on the battlefield - even China. While Russia loves to claim that they’ve got superweapons and gear that will achieve parity with the US, the war in Ukraine proves the empty boasts. They lack the gear and the ability to use it.

They don’t have the Armata tanks. They don’t have the SU-70 planes. They don’t have the tactics, or the means to exploit breakthroughs in Ukrainian lines. They are a hollow shell - one that is still lined with nukes; China is a far more formidable threat, but even there they lack the means of force projection.

re: #47 Shropshire Slasher

Not at all. Salmonella is killed by heating food to 131 for one hour. 140 for a half hour. It’s 136 in the middle right now and has been for 18 hours. Will be at 140 by the time I pull it off later, then will be seared on a hot grill for 5-10 minutes - that’ll push it over 145.

62
Dr Lizardo  Aug 2, 2022 • 11:49:38am

re: #60 lawhawk

China is far more formidable of a threat than Russia could ever hope to be. But even there, they still have a ways to go until they’re at conventional parity with the United States.

And for China’s bluster, their military is untested. The last war China got into was back in 1979, when they decided to have a go at Vietnam. And by all accounts, things didn’t go so well for China. Not quite at the level of “they got their asses handed to them” but the PLA ended military operations after a little over three weeks and went home, basically saying, “mission accomplished”.

Riiiight….Just some random Deep State rubout on some run-of-the-mill innocent guy: no context here, no siree….

[rhetorical question] Are these people idiots, or what? [/rhetorical question]

The fact that official US policy is that POTUS has the power of life and death over anyone on the planet that is a viable target (i.e., basically everyone except Putin and Xi) should be bothersome.

However, when that absurd power is used to take out a shit stain like this Al Qaeda leader, it’s a poor time to make the case that the power is absurd.

I’d assume Barrett would be on the wrong side of a case on medically necessary abortions.

You start protecting women’s lives and you put yourself on a slippery slope…

You can tell because that one has a goatee.

Right now the Judge in the Alex Jones Defamation Trial is lecturing Jones’ lawyer about chewing gun in the court room. AJ and his lawyer really, really suck at this.

In the Mirror Universe where a goateed Charles was a right winger until 9/11, and then went far left for 5 or 6 years, and then left the left because they weren’t creationist enough? LUL
