Trump ally Doug Mastriano’s virtual appearance Tuesday before the House January 6 committee only lasted about 15 minutes and “he didn’t answer a single question,” according to a source familiar with the matter.

Mastriano’s attorney cut off the virtual appearance soon after it began, the source said. His lawyer, Tim Parlatore, took issue with several procedural matters related to the deposition, and raised questions about the legality of the subpoena that Mastriano received from the panel, the source added.

Watch him say “I complied”

On the last page there was joke about ytterbium. Fun Fact: 9 chemical elements on the periodic table were all discovered in the same Swedish mine, Ytterby just outside Stockholm in the mid 1800s: Scandium (21), Yttrium(39), Gadolinium(64), Terbium(65), Holmium(67), Erbium(68), Thulium (69), ytterbium(70), Tantal(73).

It’s quite an old tradition
The Defenestrations of Prague

The first governmental defenestration occurred in 1419, second in 1483 and the third in 1618, although the term “Defenestration of Prague” more commonly refers to the third. Often, however, the 1483 event is not recognized as a “significant defenestration”, which leads to some ambiguity when the 1618 defenestration is referred to as the “second Prague defenestration”.

More recently, the process has been franchised to the Kremlin and is known as the Russian pink slip.

There was a similar take at TalkingPointsMemo:

Former Mueller prosecutor Andrew Weismann said on a Lawfare podcast on Tuesday that he could see evidence of Trump refusing to produce classified information to the National Archives as reason to launch the searches.

“This information had to be obtained and gotten back into the possession of the government,” he said. “I could see the issue of criminal prosecution being very, very secondary to the primary interest of the national security concern of needing to obtain the documents.”

The National Review has just really devolved. Even three or four years ago, I can remember there being some smart conservatives in their comments sections. Now, it’s just a wall of stupidity. The entire discussion thread on their recent article about Biden not being informed before the raid is one of disbelief. “if Biden didn’t know, he should fire people.” “If Biden didn’t know, it’s likely because he’s too senile to be told.” It’s a basic tenet of American government that the president nominates the AG but does not in any way dictate what the AG investigates. And yet this is mystifying to these know-nothings. Man, we need a Teddy Roosevelt for this generation to take the Republican party and just shake out the ignorance and bigotry that have eaten it.

It’s also important to them that it be “Biden’s FBI” since otherwise it implies that the DOJ and FBI are acting properly and doing criminal investigations and prosecutions of, you know, criminals. And just carrying out political witchhunt operations like Trump (and others) would like to be the DOJ’s main function whenever the GOP is in control.

So many people demanded to see Pac-Man’s story told that they had to do this.
/

It is noted that the movie will be live-action, but nothing has been revealed about the plot. The story is said to be based on an original pitch by Williams. While described as live-action, it’s still possible that this could be a live-action/animation hybrid with a CGI Pac-Man fleeing from ghosts in the real world. However, it’s unclear at this time if that’s the case or if the plan is to reimagine Pac-Man as a human being. In any case, it will take some creativity on Williams’ part to tell a compelling Pac-Man story as a feature film.

There was a similar take at TalkingPointsMemo:

I watched a Mary Trump episode this morning, and they were saying there that something pushed it into the urgent category. A Judge would want to know what the urgency was, and why the result could not have been achieved in a less confrontational way months ago, as we all have known about the documents at MAL for a long time. The LIV golf tournament just took place, and TFG would have been under observation. The folks on the show were theorizing that the scenario of TFG selling some NatSec documents to, say, Saudi Arabia, would have received confirmation. So this scenario then pushes DoJ into action with hair on fire.

For so long NR tried to sell themselves as the “smart” conservative outlet (of any notable size.)

But the entire basis of that was built on the idea that proper grammar and a large lexicon meant their positions were good and moral and defendable.

I got a lot of shit done on cocaine…for a while…then I got nothing done on it for a few years.

Stephen King wrote half-a-dozen books on it, most of which he has no remembrance of writing.

I’ve always referred to it as “National Racists”. Used to PO the conservatives I knew in school, especially those on the debate team with me :)

We had names for all the usual magazines: Useless News and World Distortion & Newsbleat were my two favorites.

A parody magazine called them “U.S. Booze and World Retort”. /

How can a live-action Pacman movie be anything other than a parody?

A friend of mine suggested a live-action Pac-Man LARP where you’d collect tennis balls and avoid the four “ghosts”, who wielded baseball bats. //

You mean “Ted Cruz with kiss-my-ass’s non-funny ny joke that brought gales of laughter from the CPAC audience.” Kiss-my-ass did tell us what kiss-my-ass’s pronouns are, and it would be rude not to respect kiss-my-ass’s wishes.

The FBI Raid Wasn’t Just About Classified Documents
politicalwire.com
August 9, 2022 By Taegan Goddard

Andrew McCarthy: “There’s a game prosecutors play. Let’s say I suspect X committed an armed robbery, but I know X is dealing drugs. So, I write a search-warrant application laying out my overwhelming probable cause that X has been selling small amounts of cocaine from his apartment. I don’t say a word in the warrant about the robbery, but I don’t have to. If the court grants me the warrant for the comparatively minor crime of cocaine distribution, the agents are then authorized to search the whole apartment.”

“If they find robbery tools, a mask, and a gun, the law allows them to seize those items. As long as agents are conducting a legitimate search, they are authorized to seize any obviously incriminating evidence they come across. Even though the warrant was ostensibly about drug offenses, the prosecutors can use the evidence seized to charge robbery.”

“I believe that principle is key to understanding the FBI’s search of former president Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida on Monday. The ostensible justification for the search of Trump’s compound is his potentially unlawful retention of government records and mishandling of classified information. The real reason is the Capitol riot.”

All things considered, it’s looking like whatever happened yesterday is something known only to the DOJ, and for all we know, might stay that way forever.

will take it at face value, suspect that Trump packed away months, maybe even years of daily briefings from the select intelligence services and simply held on to it to turn into cash/influence/power. Naturally, the archives and the intelligence services would just as soon not have that out in the open.

Asha Rangappa believes that is most likely the case. The DOJ got sick of getting trolled by Trump and his attorneys, and just sent the FBI to clean up the mess and be done with it.

I got a lot of shit done on cocaine…for a while…then I got nothing done on it for a few years.

Not an uncommon experience. I knew a lot of people in college, rich kids in the mid-to-late 70’s, who had bowls of blow in their kitchens. You’d show up to visit, get offered a bump, and do it.

I was fortunate that I found it kind of meh. I did a lot of teeth grinding, and hot sweats.

I knew people who got hooked with their first line. It was like “Where have you been all my life?”

Alkaloids are like that. You love them or they kill you, but there they are. And sometimes they do both.
