Ilhan Omar won her primary against a moderate Democrat by only two points. I say, let the Republicans have the “defund the police” issue and run with it.

She was incredibly cute, and totally insecure about her appearance.

“Yellowjackets” star Melanie Lynskey opened up about the struggles her good friend Brittany Murphy had when she was alive. Speaking with InStyle, she revealed Murphy grappled with body image issues and felt like she had to look picture-perfect all the time. “The way she viewed herself was always really heartbreaking to me—the things she felt she had to change to be a successful actor,” Lynskey said. “She was perfect just as she was, but people were trying to cast her as, like, ‘the fat one,’ because when she was a very young teenager, her cheeks were a little bit round.”

Many of Murphy’s friends share the same sentiment. Shortly after her death, sources told People Murphy had “insane self-image issues,” saying, “Her weight, her hair, her clothes, her skin, her teeth, everything. She was always so self-conscious.” In a separate interview, her “Something Wicked” co-star Robert Blanche said he noticed that Murphy was underweight. “Her weight represented some sort of struggle for her,” he shared. “You don’t want to say, ‘Geez Brittany, you’re too thin,’ but she seemed much too thin.”

re: #373 Mike Lamb

So Pierce says that it isn’t helpful for the media to declare the raid “unprecedented.” But let’s be clear: it is unprecedented. The problem is the media is framing according to the GOP’s talking points—i.e. that it is politically unprecedented. It implies the raid was illegitimate. They aren’t even considering, for the most part, the unprecedented nature of Trump’s crime.

I think many people don’t know the difference between or are deliberately conflating unprecedented and unwarranted.

It is unprecedented, but it is not unwarranted.

Unprecedented is being impeached for committing extortion against a friendly head of state in the hope that said friendly head of state would help out in your political election by falsely declare he was investigating his political competitor’s son.
- attempting to strongarm state government officials to falsely find votes to get him to win a state.
- attempting to create a false slate of electors to get you into office.
- attempting to launch a coup and attempting to assassinate many members of Congress and your own Vice President.
- ending sanctions on foreign companies so your daughter can get trademarks in that country.

From downstairs:

re: #371 Dr Lizardo

The majority of Republicans are against Russia and have sided with the Biden administration on at least that particular aspect of his foreign policy. There’s still quite a few old Cold Warriors in the GOP and they see this as a golden opportunity to utterly hobble a major geopolitical rival for decades to come (and on that at least, I fully agree).

It’s only the hardcore MAGAts that are pro-Russia.

Almost the entire base appears to be MAGAts worshipping Trump; JD Vance was running on “let’s not help Ukraine”. The new slew of GOP candidates march to Tucker’s beat and he certainly is no fan of Ukraine. Indeed, if Trump gets elected (which G-d willing, he won’t), we will abandon Ukraine his first day in office.

Yes —most GOP legislators in Washington still hate Putin, but those who are not sufficiently loyal to Trump are being replaced by Boebert/MGT/Gaetz clones. It is the MAGAt “Christian nationalist” base who don’t support Ukraine. Our brother is a gun-worshiping MAGAt, but on some issues, such as Ukraine, he has different views — and his view is refusing to understand that Trump supports Putin. I don’t know at what point he will finally see the light.

We have solid evidence that many elected to public office are racists; indeed that is the hallmark of MAGAts nationwide. Missouri is a GOP state with a rich pre-Trump history of such racism — after all that’s where Michael Brown was killed in 2014. No GOP state has become less racist during the Trump administration or post-Trump. And CRT-hating MAGAts routinely elect those who disparage anyone non-white

Except your perception of what will be profitable is based on your existing prejudices. Aren’t these executives making the decision a group of white men? If there were a Batgirl prequel starring the same actress that was a hit, they would have gone for it. But greenlighting a new film without existing experience? No way.

She says she’s phoned the FBI, but the screenshot is what you would see on an iPhone if you phoned someone called “Scott Perry”. Maybe the reason it went to voicemail is that she doesn’t know how to use her phone.

Scott Perry is the Congressman whose phone the FBI supposedly confiscated a couple of days ago.

You can’t choose your family, and sometimes telling a problem family member to stay the fuck away doesn’t even work.

A funeral meant to celebrate the life of an elderly woman in Northern California turned into comical mayhem after an uninvited family member stormed the service, ran over guests with a car, tipped over the casket, and struck a water main.

The extraordinary sendoff happened at the Contra Costa County cemetery inside Richmond’s Rolling Hills Memorial Park on Saturday, but was not, apparently, entirely unanticipated.

“A family member brought a stun gun to the services because of longstanding family issues,” Sgt. Aaron Pomeroy of the Richmond Police Department, told reporters after things calmed down.

Biden’s Approval Bounces Back
politicalwire.com
August 10, 2022 By Taegan Goddard

A new Reuters/Ipsos poll finds President Biden’s approval rate rose this week to 40% — its highest level since early June following a string of legislative victories.

Key takeaway: 78% of respondents who identified as Democrats approved of Biden, up from 69% a month earlier. Only 12% of Republicans approved of Biden this week, a figure that has remained largely steady in recent weeks.

UVALDE, Texas (KXAN) - Less than half of all local Uvalde peace officers had completed active shooter training when the Robb Elementary School mass shooting occurred on May 24, a KXAN investigation found.

Months later, these officers and “hundreds of responders from numerous law enforcement agencies — many of whom were better trained and better equipped than the school district police,” continue to face scrutiny regarding the actions taken over the course of 73 minutes from the time officers arrived on scene to when the shooter was neutralized, as detailed in the Texas House of Representatives Investigative Committee report on the Robb Elementary Shooting.

Majority of Uvalde law enforcement officers never had active shooter training (KXAN)

That’s because in the first sentence, you’re talking about a collective group, and in the next, you’re talking about individuals. “The team has gone to Texas. Starlink can’t count on a flood of government subsidies to help expand its satellite internet service. The FCC has rejected the SpaceX unit’s bid to receive $885.5 million in aid through the Rural Digital Opportunity Fund. The broadband provider “failed to demonstrate” that it could deliver the claimed service, according to a statement.

FCC chair Jessica Rosenworcel said Starlink had “real promise,” but suggested her agency couldn’t justify 10 years of subsidies for “developing technology” that requires a $600 satellite dish. She added that the FCC needed to make the most of “scarce” funding for broadband expansion.

The current Newsweek story being heralded on Twitter may well be accurate, but I cannot imagine trusting that publication as a source for ANYTHING at this point.

Seriously, it’s not the same magazine that used to sit next to your father’s toilet.

The raid on Mar-a-Lago was based largely on information from an FBI confidential human source, one who was able to identify what classified documents former President Trump was still hiding and even the location of those documents, two senior government officials told Newsweek.

I was thinking that myself. To make things even more murky, my understanding is that Newsweek has a quasi-right wing lurch these days.

When I heard Newsweek broke the story, I started gaming out scenarios in which the Newsweek editorial board is actually trying to help Trump by outing a spy in his midst.

Nothing quasi about it; it’s full right wing. I’ve seen some of a large jail when bailing a friend out, but never a prison. I hope to keep it that way, since my work would not involve me with prisons.

For several years I was an in house investigator for a criminal defense attorney who had federal defendants being held for bond hearings or trial in jails from Miami - St Louis - Manhattan - Detroit.

Did a lot of visits, prep for trial, and just going to give the client someone to talk to. The hard part was my knowing and them knowing how long some of them faced possible incarceration. The mob guys were connected so they had it relatively easy. The white collar drug or money laundering clients - some being first timers - had a harder time.

Probably not. There are two kinds of Republicans in Congress — MAGAt true believers, and those who owe their jobs to MAGAt true believers.

Perhaps at the state level though. In Nebraska, state senator Laura Ebke switched from the Republican to the Libertarian Party after Donald Trump was nominated by the GOP in 2016. (She is now out of office due to term limits but says she will run again after the waiting period.)

State senator John McCallister (R), who more often votes with Democrat Megan Hunt, has loudly called out the neo-Nazis who keep appearing as hires in Pete Ricketts’s administration, and has also loudly condemned Donald Trump and the Big Lie.

Can we blame you for haggis? Or do you skate on a technicality that it’s only Scotland and the rest of the UK hates it too…

I am Scottish (50% by genes).

What is your problem with haggis. Are we going to have to fight? Are you going to disparage my grans fried haggis slices with taties and neeps?
