BEHOLD… GEMATRIA!

They’d have a better chance of seeing Gemara than Gematria (which involves math - and we know how they *suck* at math).

Rando

Garland holds all the cards here.

He knows what’s in the search warrant and the warrant application, and what was found. Meanwhile the Republicans have to rely on speculation, and even worse, Trump’s assurances. If the Republicans seem to be getting close Garland can bread-crumb some clues, and if they’re making fools of themselves he can let them proceed.

In a way it’s a parallel to the early days of the Lewinski scandal, where Democrats were defending Clinton based on his personal assurances, and Ken Starr knew the facts and could control the narrative

National Archives is the repository of documents, including classified documents for the Nation. They preserve documents and follow protocols for handling of documents (see Sandy Berger stealing them in his pants out of the national archives for a refresher).

Obama doesn’t possess any classified documents. None. They are in possession of the NA.

That is a reminder that everyone was pointing out that Trump businesses were incapable of being secured for purposes of classified work, and Trump would openly talk about classified information in and among those attending on any given day. He had no clue how opsec works, and regularly mishandled classified information. Or worse, passed it on to foreign powers.

I don’t know about the current COVID situation over there in Germany, but here in Czech Republic, it’s like it never even existed.

Hell, there’s a big ol’ concert going on in a pub right down the street. Pretty good band, though I don’t know who it is. It sounds like Kabát, a legendary Czech hard-rock band, but it’s most likely a tribute band.

Sunoco just north of me is still $4.29; it was $4.55 a month or so ago. Three miles further north on PA-8 the Sunoco there was down to $4.19. So I guess the chain of gasoline from the refinery -> distributor -> station is starting to get the cheaper gasoline in. (And the additive packages and ethanol are usually mixed in by the distributors, not at the refinery since the required packages vary by state, season, and other factors.)

I wonder if a few documents (or copies/photos thereof) surfaced in Moscow or Beijing that the DOJ/FBI could directly trace back to the documents in Trump’s possession; e.g. ones with watermarks, etc. indicating they were given to the White House and from there had not been properly handled and then taken away to MAL.

Thus their black market value and why it shows up as a plot point in movies such as “The Third Man” and episodes of M*A*S*H.

One reason why illegal abortion was able to be minimized in the decades prior to Roe was due in large part to penicillin. Yeah, there were a LOT of botched abortions, which damaged fertility but relatively few women and girls died since penicillin became widely available.

Good, concise analysis of how China “fell” to Mao and the CCP - lotta factors at play, but yes: a main one was that China was always considered a secondary theater by the Allies (US mainly) - the prevalent attitude being that China was big enough and resource-rich enough to be able to defend itself, and that Allied aid and efforts (US mainly) should be deployed on other fronts.
Wrong decisions (among many), but that’s History for you…..

Yeah, they’re all going all in on the competency angle - that the FBI and DOJ should have executed this warrant sooner if this was as serious as claimed.

Right. I agree - they should have executed warrants sooner, and should be hauling Trump off in cuffs today, given that he’s accused of espionage. That’s the part they know to be true and think Trump above the law even now.

DOJ executed the warrant on the evidence they had. Getting new evidence of nuclear secrets and mishandling them added to the urgency leading to this week’s events.

Part of it as well is that the logistics for pushing supplies into China were all awful by 1942.
1. Burma Road cut by the Japanese.
2. Via Cochin China/Vietnam cut by Japanese in 1940 when they occupied French Indo-China.
3. Chinese coastal ports occupied by Japan from 1936-1940.
4. Ledo Road eventually built. But took time and was an awful route.
5. Flying materials over “The Hump”. Which included the plane having to carry enough fuel to get back. (The attempted B-29 campaign from China previous to the Allies capturing the Mariana Islands in 1944 was a logistical nightmare.)

While China was tying down a lot of the Japanese Army the truth is that logistics and supplies being used elsewhere was probably more efficient.

And as an alternative to invading the Philippines there were advocates in the US Navy who wanted to invade Formosa (Taiwan) and try to liberate part of coastal China as well.

Mrs. Fish raised the question last night, but in a different way. Put in a roundabout way, “Why did they let him hang on to the documents for 18 months?” I know there’s been a lot of back and forth on these documents between NARA/DOJ and Trump’s lawyers, but I’m wondering why there wasn’t as much of a sense of urgency before. Maybe they figured the documents were relatively safe under the watch of the Secret Service, until they uncovered evidence of documents being sold?

More likely is they didn’t know the scope of the docs taken - classified can encompass a bunch of different things. That includes low level stuff and then highest level classifications, including stuff like nuclear secrets that get you locked away forever.

Trump turned out to have a bunch of the latter, to go with the former. All of it is a felony - but the nuclear secrets are the ones that raised all the alarms once DOJ and FBI realized what Trump took.

So, Trump could possibly be looking at ten years per document.

There were what, 11 documents, IIRC? That’s 110 years if convicted on all counts.

Heh, bet Trump is on the phone right now, trying to contact bin Salman in Riyadh 😄 Something like, “Bro, I need you do me a solid right now!”

If Trump would agree to a deal to be stripped of his US citizenship and have to live his life in exile in Riyadh, never to return, I would be amenable to that, as much as I would like him to spend the rest of his days in prison.

Another 72 hours did not impose any additional risk after months of knowing the documents were there. Also, Monday would have been much less crowded and manageable with all the agents searching the facility. Sometimes the answer is the simplest reason and not the one inviting the most intrigue.

that only works for sane people

re: #128 FFL (GOP Delenda Est)

As best as I understand the history, after the Japanese surrender in 1945, the general attitude among US policymakers wrt China was that once the Japanese forces were repatriated, the situation would revert to the status quo ante: i.e. that Chiang Kai-shek’s KMT government (the “legitimate” government of China) would simply (re)take over its “legitimate” territory, and deal with the Communist “bandit insurgency” in due course. Mao, of course, had other plans….

But there was, AFAICT, little, if any, support in the US for the sort of massive direct involvement, i.e. boots-on-the-ground, to defeat what was painted, for several years, as a minimal threat to the “legitimate” authority of the KMT - a view enhanced by a flood of pro-Chiang propaganda from the Usual Sources - so that when the Chiang Regime finally collapsed (and fled to Taiwan), events came as something of a nasty surprise to the US FP Establishment, and the efforts to support the non-Communist government were much too little, much too late.

IMHO.

I see people wondering why it took 18 months. Trump turned over 15 boxes, and probably told them that was all of them. We know now that someone, maybe in the Secret Service, tipped them off that not only was there more, but it was bad stuff. That was probably pretty recent.

that was in june, in response to the subpoena

they didnt have the full details of how much (or what) had been taken. there was no inventory.

we dont know when they learned what they learned. was it all at once, or piecemeal?

that’s what an investigation is

I’m not a lawyer but I wonder if this means they could search guest suites if they believe Trump or his associates could have used them for to stash items. If so, I wonder how this will impact traffic at Trump-owned or Trump-branded properties.

The good part about this is that then we don’t have to go through a knock-down, drag-out constitutional fight about whether Trump properly declassified the documents or not (spoilers: He didn’t, the courts have repeatedly affirmed that there is a process even presidents must follow to declassify documents). If they can prove he held on to information that could materially damage the security of the United States, he is guilty, full stop.

Under/below classified in the realm of unclassified information is controlled unclassified information (CUI). This includes confidential, “For official use only”, “trade secrets”, personally identifying information, health info/HIPAA type stuff, etc.

None of this is OK to just be released either. All CUI, even in civilian contractors has to be protected. One of the last big projects at my previous job was implementing NIST 800-171 security controls on CUI.

I am not a lawyer and either are most folks making pronouncements on the law right now. My opinion however, is regardless of the law, if this ends up before the current supreme court, and any case involving a former president and espionage act/classification/document handling, is almost certain to, they will rule he was within his presidential power to do whatever he did. Will not spend a day in prison for this. Caveat being if he actually sold or gave away secrets, then all bets are off.

CCP lore: American soldiers were there and were creating a lot of ill will in KMT (GMD) areas through harassment, rape, accidents—the usual stuff. Some of it is definitely true. More importantly, you can earn a lot of good will by taking land from the wealthier and giving it to the poorer.

re: #300 The Pie Overlord!

The GOP continues to Gaslight Obstruct Project

Let it forever be known that the Republican Party, despite decades of attempting to hijack the notion that they are the only true patriots of the USA, are currently trying to find any way to cover and redirect serious espionage charges against a multi-divorced marriage-destroyer, a man who actively derides US Military Vets for their service, disdains the poor and middle class, and considers the very worst dictators on the planet as personal friends and worthy of admiration.

They are not serious people on any political or social intellectual level. The only thing serious about them is the malevolent level of destruction and evil they plan, promote and agitate against our country.

Evil does exist. It is the GOP. And they feel they have their backs against the wall.

Hilarious, Gableman eventually accused Vos of being part of the conspiracy!

Gableman went further in a Monday appearance on former Trump adviser Stephen K. Bannon’s podcast, contending Vos had a role in stealing the 2020 election. (Recounts and court rulings in Wisconsin have confirmed Biden’s win and independent reviews have found no signs of significant voter fraud.)

“[Vos] oversaw the implementation of all the odious apparatus that the Wisconsin Elections Commission put to use to steal the election from — and I’m not even going to say from a particular candidate. I’m going to say they stole it from the voters and the good citizens of the state of Wisconsin,” Gableman said.

Let’s all be honest for a moment;
Who here hasn’t randomly and innocently violated the Espionage Act?
Hands?
No?

These idiots are in for a big surprise when they learn that simply threatening these agents is a crime.

This looks like the information about French President Macron is a subset of Roger Stone’s clemency.

In 2017, Roger Stone acolyte Jack Posobiec shared hacked Macron emails. The White House gave him press credentials.

— Roger Sollenberger

I don’t quite see why anyone would be interested in “the Macron emails”.

Shortly after the alt-right media boosted the leak, chief of Macron’s campaign Mounir Mahjoubi stated that they have been watching GRU hacking attempts since February, and let them steal a carefully prepared cache of trivial and forged documents. After this was confirmed against the leaks contents, its credibility was seriously undermined

Awaiting NPR’s comment on propriety of murder threats.

These people they are talking about are not just ordinary poll workers they can scare or regular folk they can intimidate. These people have been trained in self defense and weapons. These dumbass motherfuckers could break off a little more than they can chew trying to intimidate agents.
