Of course I got CL’d (MPBUH),

It’s what I do:

re: #46 A Cranky One

Nuclear secret trucks on every corner.

Hi! I’d like two bean, bacon, and cheese breakfast tacos and the schematic design of the W-69 warhead, some salsa verde, and the design specs for the timed detonators of the shaped charges on the W-69

$2.99 for the tacos and the salsa and $2.99 billion for the nuke design?? Fantastic! Do you take Bitcoin?

Okay, then, let’s touch phones and we’re done!

Good night for fireworks in Meradalir:

It’s finally making a cone but I don’t think it will close off completely until the continuous flow of lava turns to intermittent.

Note the vent on the left has made itself a little pizza oven.

So the week started with MAL getting searched by the FBI and ended with the search warrant and related docs showing Donny is under investigation for multiple violations of the Espionage Act.

Can next Monday start with Donny being hauled off in cuffs to be arraigned? PLEASE!?! I’ve been such a good boy this year (so far)!

Indeed, a real dumb shit. Doxing FBI agents. IIRC the FBI is one of those agencies that are really good at tracking down just about anyone using the internet.

Welp, it’s galloping toward the witching hour in the ‘04, and I’m for the rack.

Best wishes for Sir Salman Rushdie as he fights for his life in western New York. He is a writer of rare skill and magnificent imagination.

Worst wishes for TFG as he keeps digging in the hole he has created for himself.

Keep digging Don! There is success somewhere below your feet!

Kudos for the Dems and especially for Biden, who has taken the insult of “Let’s go Brandon!” and stuffed it right up the asses of Republicans with his Giant Legislative Dick™.

Well played! You’re a beauty!

The former OAN host (Bobb) was the one today that basically destroyed Trump’s attempts at claiming evidence was “planted” by saying that he and his lawyers had access to CCTV coverage of the entire search via an app on his phone.

So yeah, he’s paying for top-notch legal representation./////

The IRS needs major reform. There is no fucking reason why I and tens of millions even need to fill out and do taxes. ALL of my financial information is available to them 365 days a year. They already have everything they need, what they don’t need is make busy work designed to punish filers if they’re 10 minutes late to file. Totally ridiculous.

Only the vested parties (e.g. tax consulting companies) are keeping Congress from establishing online tax filing via the IRS. The companies want us to go through them.

Here in California, land of librul commies, ordinary people can file online, completely, free, with the California Franchise Tax Board.

Those who have complex taxes such as business owners and those who make a lot of money, still have do all the special forms and such.

But the majority of Californians just do their taxes on the FTB website.

The big issue they’re facing is the very asshole they’re trying to defend. The smartest thing that Trump could have possibly done would have been to keep silent. Any time a journalist asked him a question, his automatic response should have been to point them to his lawyers who’d belch out a bunch of legalese that said little and revealed less. Odds are that Garland would have responded to such a scenario by sticking with the “We’ll let the court filings tell our story” position and allowed this whole thing to go silent again for weeks or months.

Instead, the loud-mouthed fuck went out on Fifth Ave, doused himself with high-octane, struck a match, and lit himself ablaze while his fans cheered him on.

One of my friends in the UK didn’t actually have to fill out a tax form (or pay someone to do it for him) until 2018 when his self-published book on cryptocurrency sold way more than anyone (including him) expected. Prior to that, Her Majesty’s Inland Revenue took care of that for him. He was startled to learn that I’d been filing tax returns since I was 16 years old on (at the time, it was the 1970s) rather minuscule amounts of money.

To me, the tax racket is rather like the pharma racket. We could do like the UK, but it would require government involvement that the big players (Intuit, H&R Block, etc., etc.) are very against having. Remember all the hooraw over how Intuit was basically pointing people who qualified for free tax service to their paid service? That sort of thing.

I’m going to throw this wishful thinking bullshit behind the button.

It’s also weird to me that all this stuff is on paper. Printing anything classified means a pile of signatures and handling constraints, and keeping it for more than a meeting or whatever means more registration and storage constraints. Ideally you want to not print these documents out at all and just read them on line, or print them and destroy them quickly. I’m guessing that these were mostly printed with the intent to handle them illegally.

And yes, there are networks that handle up to TS/SCI information (JWICS). There may be some very exclusive compartments that don’t allow electronic transmission, but that’s just speculation.

I’m not terribly familiar with modern methods of reading classified documents. Back in my days in the Navy (1978-1996, break in the middle), all Secret manuals I handled were printed, some Confidential manuals were also printed (others were on the hated MIARS system, some of which we could print if needed and if the printers worked), and all of it was kept in my shop’s safe inside the RF vault (the Faraday cage for the cryptographic maintenance area of the shop with a giant vault door).

We were only starting to automate VIDS/MAF (aviation maintenance forms) later in my career (my final job in Spain was the system administrator for the prototype system the Navy eventually bought).

As for generating handwritten notes during maintenance of equipment, if the notes lasted longer than the shift you worked, you were require to log the notes as classified material with the Quality Assurance Division and store them in accordance with the instructions for Secret or Confidential material. Notes you didn’t need any more had to be declassified by QA as well. Notes which you would not need at the end of a shift went to the incinerator.

U.S. Consulate Warns Citizens to Avoid Tijuana As Fires, Roadblocks Reported Throughout Baja (Times of San Diego, two hours ago)

Hundreds of Mexican soldiers were sent to Ciudad Juarez Friday while violence sparked in the border town near Texas may be linked to a series of incidents in Tijuana and the surrounding area.

The situation began in Ciudad Juarez with a prison face-off between members of two rival cartels, which caused a riot and shootouts that left 11 people dead, most of them civilians, authorities said.

The violence then reached the city, and as of Friday, apparently had moved west. The U.S. Consulate in Tijuana warned American citizens late in the evening to avoid the area, while acknowledging that officials are “aware of reports of multiple vehicle fires, roadblocks, and heavy police activity in Tijuana, Mexicali, Rosarito, Ensenada and Tecate.

The Twitter post noted that U.S. government employees have been instructed to shelter in place until further notice. Officials had issued a travel alert last month.

If you’re anywhere with decent network connectivity, it’s online now. Much, much easier to just open it up on SIPR. If you’re out in the field and might need it in an emergency, there’s probably a copy in a safe. Not in a closet with a lock a five year old could pick.

Even flight bags for aircraft have gone electronic, as far as I know. Saves a measurable amount of fuel, considering the piles of maps that are flown literally everywhere by everybody. The developers had to prove that the system was reliable enough to take the place of paper.

I don’t think it’s quite sunk in for Trump yet that he’s not dealing with state/local prosecutors that he can bribe by offering campaign donations, threaten by promising to withhold donations, or appease by offering a “win” by agreeing to a guilty plea in exchange for a wrist-slap. Nor is he in a position of power that allows him to directly fuck with the investigation or fire the investigators.

It’s taken about a day, but the volcano has pretty much closed its cone and the outlet channel now has a little step that the lava must hurdle:

Pretty continuous river of lava heads south, turns a sharp left and heads east to the rest of Meradalir.

Should continue as a tourist-volcano for some time. Much better for Iceland than the big ones that go boom.

I rode 40 miles since the thorns and the tires are still holding their air. The front tire lost 3 lbs and the rear tire lost 2 before they fully sealed. On small tires that could become a flat before the leaks seal.

Russia destroyed over 100 libraries in Ukraine: officials (Radio Poland, August 12, 2022)

A crime against humanity that Amnesty International seemed to overlook in their internationally-panned report.

The figures were announced by Ukrainian Deputy Culture and Information Policy Minister Rostislav Karandeev on Friday, Polish state news agency PAP reported.

Karandeev said at a news briefing in the Ukrainian capital: “It’s typical Russian policy - destroying the native language, imposing their own rules for life.”

He added: “101 libraries have lost a significant part of their collections, while a further 21 have lost everything, down to the last document,” the PAP news agency reported, citing the Suspilne website.

Karandeev also said that Russian occupation authorities were “stripping libraries and schools of all books in the Ukrainian language.”

He told reporters that “the biggest damage has been done to libraries in the eastern Donetsk region, the northern Kyiv region and the southern Mykolaiv region, as well as in the Kharkiv region in the northeast of the country.”

The Russo-Ukrainian War is causing damage to Russia’s economy, despite the Kremlin’s preposterous lies that all is well….

President Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine set Russia’s economy back four years in the first full quarter after the attack, putting it on track for one of the longest downturns on record even if less sharply than initially feared.

Although the economy’s decline so far isn’t as precipitous as first anticipated, the central bank projects the slump will worsen in the quarters ahead, reaching its lowest point in the first half of next year.

On Friday, the central bank published a draft of its policy outlook for the next three years, predicting the economy will take until 2025 to return to its potential growth rate of 1.5%-2.5%. The bank’s projections for 2022-2024 remained unchanged, with GDP forecast to shrink 4%-6% and 1%-4% this year and next, respectively.

And mind you, that’s from the Russian Central Bank. I’d presume it’s been padded so as not to look so bad.

President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador is facing a flood of criticism after Mexico’s navy lent a military helicopter to fly in his home team’s mascot at a major baseball playoff during a week of violent unrest elsewhere in the country.

Pochi, the Olmecas de Tabasco club’s mascot - clad in a full-body turtle costume - followed military personnel out of an Airbus Panther helicopter that landed in the middle of a stadium in Tabasco state, surprising fans who had come to see the Mexican Baseball League game on Thursday.

Lopez Obrador criticized the decision, even as it remained unclear who had signed off on it.

“I do not agree with it,” Lopez Obrador, who has prioritized austerity measures like trying to sell the country’s presidential jet, told journalists at a morning press conference.

A would-be thief was rescued from a tunnel he was digging in order to reach a bank in Rome he allegedly planned to rob on Thursday, officials believe.

The suspect was buried about 20 feet underground after a road near the Vatican collapsed on him, according to The Guardian.

An eight-hour rescue began after one of the victim’s four alleged cohorts escaped from the tunnel and called authorities, the outlet reported.

“Help, I beg you to get me out,” the crook was reportedly heard pleading to first responders from beneath the rubble.

After being given liquid food and a canister of oxygen, the man was eventually pulled out alive to enthusiastic applause from a crowd that had gathered to watch the strange scene. He was hospitalized in critical condition, according to the report.

This looks like the information about French President Macron is a subset of Roger Stone’s clemency.

In 2017, Roger Stone acolyte Jack Posobiec shared hacked Macron emails. The White House gave him press credentials.

— Roger Sollenberger

I don’t quite see why anyone would be interested in “the Macron emails”.

Shortly after the alt-right media boosted the leak, chief of Macron’s campaign Mounir Mahjoubi stated that they have been watching GRU hacking attempts since February, and let them steal a carefully prepared cache of trivial and forged documents. After this was confirmed against the leaks contents, its credibility was seriously undermined

Rally tally wanes as 82nd annual event comes to a close (Rapid City, SD Journal, August 12, 2022)

The Stugis Motorcycle Rally is coming to a close. Previous rallies during the Republican Plague years have spread Covid-19 all across the country as rally-goers return home.

STURGIS — With the 82nd Sturgis Motorcycle Rally all but in the books, Sturgis Police Chief Geody VanDewater and Meade County Sheriff Ron Merwin are pleased with how their respective departments have responded to the event.

Overall vehicle numbers entering Sturgis continue to fall as the rally winds down. On Thursday, the South Dakota Department of Transportation tallied 45,356 vehicles — down 11.7% from the previous five-year average — at nine counting stations in and around Sturgis.

The seven-day total thus far stands at 400,341 vehicles, slightly higher than the five-year average of 391,811.

With late-rally attendance numbers trending to be lower than last year, calls for service for both Sturgis police and county deputies are down as well.

Officers have responded to 1,216 calls this year, compared to 1,513 last year. Deputies have fielded 611 calls this year, fewer than the total of 655 last year.

I don’t quite see why anyone would be interested in “the Macron emails”.

The idea was Roger Stone and Jack Posebiec were trying to create a scandal around Emanuel Macron in the run-up to the French election, to boost the chances of Marine le Pen.

That was also boosted across Twitter by conservatives in the United States (along with copious amounts of Russian rodent-copulation).

Yeah, I reread the statement earlier and I found myself thinking that the way it’s worded makes it sound like this is something that was going on for awhile. And yeah, he had access as president to these files and documents, but he couldn’t just stuff them in a suit pocket and carry them wherever he liked on the argument that “I’m president, so I can do whatever the fuck I want.” And shit like that is basically just catnip to a prosecutor, as it establishes a pattern of criminal behavior rather than “Just something that happened the one time by mistake.”

If Trump hadn’t decided to publicize the search so he could fund raise off of it, it’s likely we wouldn’t even know it happened.

Assuming the GOP gains control of the House, while they can issue subpoenas to Garland and other DOJ and FBI officials, there is zippo they can do to stop a grand jury from indicting Trump. If he is indicted, all he can do is try to drag the proceedings out as long as possible. As an ex-President, I would bet that he would be allowed to remain free during the pendency of his appeal, which would certainly drag on past the 2024 presidential election, after which a GOP President would pardon him. Heck, even a Democratic President would be under a lot of pressure to pardon him “so the healing can begin.”

Given how much attention the media has put on Trump ever since 2015, it’s pretty much impossible to believe that they would not have known about the FBI executing a search warrant. But the details about what was being sought, the specifics of the warrant, and so forth would have been kept under wraps until the DOJ chose to act upon the evidence collected.

To be fair to Kansas, Minnesota ended their free school lunch program, as well. It seems like part of “back to normal” is “forcing families to pay for their kids’ food”.

As Rush Limbaugh (may he burn in Hell forever) famously once said, how are children going to learn the value of a hard day’s work if you just feed them for free?

Remember the anecdote the AK state Lieutenant governor related about not feeding vermin.

Remember the anecdote about the kid who wished he had a mother to pack his lunch.

Remember any mother who does not choose to stay home and let the husband be the breadwinner while she tends to family and hearth is being neglectful of her duty unto the Lord

etc…

Today’s electoral-vote.com has a very good explainer (imo) about the state of the warrant and things adjacent.

Still not focused on enough:
Declassified or not, these docs still are property of the us govt.
Possessing them in and of itself is a no no. Its theft, like taking any other physical asset.

Also, several times the govt asked for *everything* back and each time he didn’t give everything back. The possible docs sensitivity plus this duplicity led to the need for a search.

re: #109 Dangerman

The plebs are focusing on the whole “Trump declassified them” talking point, but they’re missing the mark. As several legal experts pointed out yesterday, the statutes Trump is being investigated under do not depend on the documents’ classification status. All that matters is:

1) Could the information contained therein threaten the national security of the United States?
2) Did he have them in his possession in an unsecured fashion such that they could be considered “mishandled”?
3) Did he refuse to give them back when the government asked for them, such that they could be considered stolen?

“The FBI broke into my safe”

was his version of events

A more nuanced version:

He had been visited at an earlier date by Government representatives, who saw that these documents were being kept in an unlocked area and recommended that he make them safer, at which point, Trump Org installed a padlock.

This would have been the “safe” he was referring to in his statement.

The bigger problem is, they’re unwilling to learn. People like us, we look at the world, and at things we don’t understand, and we ask people who DO understand to explain it to us. We internalize what they say, and comprehend it, and then we can speak to it and maybe even build on it from our own expertise. These people don’t want to understand; they just want to be assured that their worldview is intact. So instead of asking people who understand, they ask their fellow idiots, who give them the answers they want. And then the next time they look like a fool, they repeat the process.

And the fact they keep jumping for excuse to excuse as it becomes obvious that the previous excuse was moronic and was not working is an indication that they they *are* simply making excuses. I half expect the excuses to circle back around and start over since I have had far too many arguments where I have backed someone from position to position without them admitting the possibility of being wrong and then they suddenly loop back to excuse #1. (When I start seeing that sort of thing happening I usually just apply a “stubborn jackass” label to them, lose respect for them, and then disengage and move on since that person is no longer worth engaging with again, at least on that particular subject.)

The notion of someone actually playing by the rules is almost completely foreign to them.

Rules are for little people (to be enforced by violence if necessary) and fools.

Friend of mine got in a “discussion” with a parish priest a ways back. From what he told me afterwards he had mentioned me as a potential god parent for one of his children. Once my religious convictions came to the fore, without I guess the priest caring much about my character compared to the former, the idea got the kibosh.

I checked her appeal, and the cost is $275,000, so she has a ways to go to get the recount funded. Out of morbid curiosity, I’m going to check every now and then to watch her futile effort to throw away people’s money on a pointless recount.

So he gives them back. What about all the photocopies that he has sold to others and that may remain in his possession?

I feel like the media would’ve picked up on boxes leaving Mar-a-Lago, since the place seems like it’s constantly under surveillance by journalists, but with Trump not being there on the day of the raid, it’s likely it wouldn’t have leaked until somebody on the Trump side decided it was time to make a buck.

The raid was announced by a local reporter who does a political newsletter. And he made it clear this was way beyond him.

Peter Schorsch was on the ball.

ETA: Mar-A-Lago is generally closed this time of year, I suspect because it’s not very well air-conditioned. And Trump wasn’t in residence. So we’re doubly lucky that some local dude was on site and recognized what was going on.

That is not surprising considering that DT is a schoolyard bully.

re: #192 Jay C

So what do we think the next pivot (i.e. barrage of mendacious excuse-making) will be? that it was all a “clerical error” or some flunky’s “misunderstanding”, and that Donald “sincerely believed” that all those documents were “sincerely” declassified? Which in any event doesn’t justify the Deep State “persecution” poor 45 has had to endure….?

He thought they were boxes of love letters and tokens of affections from his fellow autocrats.

50/50 guess prevented salvaging the par. Gotta get the hair cut, car cleaned, and grab some nuclear documents at the store. Cheers!

What an asshole. Threatening a Federal Agent gets you ten years in Joliet if you are convicted.

Let’s go Merrick!

Or it could get you fucking dead

Trump would be awfully lonely at Joliet; it is closed.

I still have no idea why Cheech Marin was at the ceremony.

Why can’t they just use the proper term “lying sacs of sit”.

That exchange between DiSantis and Hannity/Lara Trump was amazing. Wow.
