I agree with Renato. The case looks strong, the events show Trump was given multiple opportunities to give them back, and most importantly, it shows the DOJ methodically increasing the pressure and setting up an opportunity to hang himself.

A few things Renato didn’t touch but only add to Trump’s problems here. I think Marcy at EmptyWheel pointed out Trump declassified documents for Crossfire Hurricane so he knows how the process is completed. He can’t say he didn’t know, and saying he declassified the documents he does have is a demonstrable lie. Also, another long read yesterday. A President cannot declassify anything at all. He can only declassify Executive Branch documents (as he did with Crossfire Hurricane). He cannot declassify DOJ/CIA/DOD documents like launch codes or plans for nuclear weapons or lists of CIA assets. I don’t know if he had any of that stuff. I suspect he kept a lot of stuff out of vanity to impress sychophants but I wouldn’t put it past him to keep stuff deemed valuable he could sell for profit.

Patel is straight lying and Fox knows it, giving him a channel to promote these comments uncritically.

Trump has to declare to others he will declassify the document with two people with clearance to said document; then the document has to have previous classifed stamps crossed off and new declarations printed on the document saying it’s now declassified; Trump has to sign it. I might have missed something but this is what I recall. It’s a process with 3 distinct steps.

There is an argument that someone with expertise in a particular area (e.g. history or math) should be able to get a teaching certificate without a degree in education, as opposed to a degree in math or some science. Certainly, there could be some community college program that provides a year of training on how to teach and the knowledge of administrative bureaucracy to someone who already has a college degree in a related subject.

Presidential Records Act scandals, from Nixon’s tapes to Trump’s ‘burn bags’

In the waning days of Trump’s presidency, as he faced a second impeachment and potential post-presidency legal exposure, the AHA again filed a lawsuit, with other groups, to stop what it feared would be “a bonfire of documents in the Rose Garden.” The lawsuit was withdrawn after Trump left office.

Like, some look at me like I’m some kind of heretic when I use off-the-shelf mains cable (sans connectors) for speaker wires and go with standard current density calcs (6A/mm2 max) plus a good margin, and ferrule the ends. Because that’s what’s required. Maybe, in some instances, shielded mains cable or variant with concentric ground.

Only when you get to significant powers (≥250 W), long runs, and are close to the 6A/mm2 at the same time, i.e. when you should be considering distribution amps and local amplifiers anyhow. Otherwise, 4-5 A/mm2 is decent for ≤30 ft…

Most of our speaker runs are 100-200ft and the few beyond we run 70v. So our gauges are typically 14awg and we’ll double up for the longer runs.

The Exotic Manufacturer sells special cables with fat conductors (bass) wrapped in smaller conductors (high frequency). It’s really expensive. I can’t in good faith sell it. The only evidence it works is them telling me ‘people heard the difference when we demo’d it.’

Give me an engineering result showing measureable differences and double blind listenting tests. Then I’ll be convinced.

That sounds to me like damping factor. Most of our manufacturers don’t list it on spec sheets but it’s an important thing to consider. I’ve had the benefit of hearing an 8ohm speaker run off a single pair of CAT5e cable and it worked amazingly well. At a low level. With no bass.

I have thought about making speaker cable stands out of exotic wood: barrels used for wine or whiskey. Market them as wine being better for classic, whiskey being better for metal or rock. Etc. I know people would buy it. I just don’t have that literary marketing flair to write up effusive sales docs. Maybe I need to get high on my own supply first.

the only thing i’m wondering is if it’s possibly a player that got mistitled. not easy to tell from the pictures. but yes, i checked before purchase. it’s an actual store rather than a “boutique” with a good rating. they dropped the price a couple hundred bucks and it’s apparently been listed for over a month. i suspect they bought it used for next to nothing and now just want it off inventory.

I had a boss who was driven nuts by people who said ‘with no’. ‘Is it “with” or is it “no”? It can’t be both!’ This was in the context of making sandwiches to order. The only thing worse than asking for one ‘with no mustard’ was the guy who wanted his ‘mustard on the meat side’. Duke would say, ‘I’ll mustard your meat side, buddy.’ under his breath. Skin effect isn’t an issue at the relatively low frequencies used for audio.

High end audio is full of snake oil.

The idea that you need magic cables to connect an amplifier (which doesn’t have magic cable inside) to the speaker (which doesn’t have magic cable inside and in fact has tiny wire in the speaker drivers) is ludicrous.

The latest thing now is ultrahigh bitrates (like 192K). Oh, they cry, it sounds so much better. But the reality is that the sample rate used for CDs (48.1 K) can accurately reproduce all frequencies that humans can hear with a large dynamic range. Higher bitrates can have a wider frequency spread and more dynamic range, but the difference is moot because we can’t hear it.

I still laugh at audiophile reviewers who raved about a phono preamp, remarking about how they heard differences from others and it was so wonderful. Someone took apart the insides which were encased in epoxy. Turns out it was a cheap op amp and the circuit was straight from the op amp spec sheets. The problem? The circuit in the spec sheet had an error which meant the equalization (RAII specified) was wrong. So it did sound different as noted, but not because it was better.

I have several fantastic audio systems. And you won’t find any magic cables there.

Give me an engineering result showing measureable differences and double blind listenting tests. Then I’ll be convinced.

I just approach it from the AC power and signal distribution standpoints. I take the peak available output of the amplifier as basis, then calculate the current based on the supply voltage to the power amp (27-48V typically (latter when it’s symmetric (+0-)), and try for a little lower than what’s the recommendation for AC wiring, more margin the longer runs you have.

Rationale is simple: Transient peaks getting mutilated are the ones most likely to be noticed, load impedance is low, so aim for lowest resistive losses at expected signal levels. Also, don’t forget cable capacitance, which acts more and more as a low-pass filter the longer your runs are. Like, even mains transmission and distribution guys sweat about cable capacitance with long runs.

How I’d demo? Good oscilloscope, two diff probes that can hack the signal levels with margin, and different lengts of wire. I would avoid using standard spools, but rewind them on the spool in a low-inductance way, or lay them out in wide area.
On the diff probes and scopes, channel 1 is feed end of cable run channel 2 is load end of cable run. Load is either a speaker proper or preferrably a good dummy load.
Observe just by eyeball if 1 and 2 are different. Then put 1 and 2 with the scope in X/Y mode (channel 1 vertical, channel 2 horizontal). If all is A-OK, you should have a straight diagonal line. Some small deviations might happen.
Then you do a step which may require a DSO, which is to take the mathematic function to see channel 1 minus channel 2. It should be the input signal, strongly attenuated.
Lather, rinse, repeat for different lengths of cable and different wire gauges.
Extra credit for doing FFT analysis of white noise performance.

Here is a typical voice coil for a woofer.

All the power from the amp goes through these tiny wires inside the speaker.

So do we need wires as thick as my thumb to connect to these tiny wires? Ridiculous.

Now a good cable should have low inductance and capacitance to avoid altering the signal. And low resistance to prevent signal loss. Beyond that, no magic is required.

Why does it hurt your psyche for Trump to be acknowledged as a truly bad guy?

Because then THEY would have to admit that they are the bad guys. That’s literally all these GOPers defending Trump are doing: They don’t want to feel like they’re the bad guys. They see themselves as the heroes, the white knights, the holders of the moral high ground.

The ugly truth is that Republicans are Nazi wannabes that are already fascist and are steadily making progress toward their goal of a US Fourth Reich.

And IMO, for ≤250 W, going with what you would go with power wiring for AC plus a little margin (e.g. if standard says 6 A/mm2 max, go with 5 or 4 A/mm2(latter especially on longer runs) for audio, based on peak power and actual load) will perform well. And add shielded cable or cable with concentric ground for difficult environments, maybe clip-on ferrites. And avoiding long power runs, of course.

I don’t think the Ukrainians would get so lucky, sadly.

To sum up: Prigozhin is a super-connected Putin crony who operates Wagner, the Kremlin’s mercenary agency. They did a little social media flex in Mariupol (I think) a couple of days ago showing off their headquarters there. A little geolocation happened, and apparently the Ukrainians put a bunch of metal on target. A rumor is that Prigozhin is now missing, which would be a huge win for the good guys, but should be taken with a metric tonne or two of salt.
