I don’t remember if I wrote about this yesterday, but I notice the sign still isn’t back up.

I was washing my car yesterday. I had just finished the outside and was at the end of my driveway having a smoke before tackling the interior. A guy down the street has had a tRump sign out front of his house forever. Not a big one, just those little placards held in place by thin pot metal shafts stuck in the ground. He pulled it out of the ground disappeared from my view up his driveway. I thought he might be moving it to mow or something. I went on with my car cleaning. I noticed later that the sign was not out there still. Today it is still not out there. I don’t know the guy at all so I am not going to ask. His next door neighbor I talk to, so he might know something. I think he may have had enough of TFG after this last shit came to light. Can only hope.

Sound advice from George. Incidentally, I have been watching the 1963 flick PT-109, about the sinking of then Lieutenant (jg) John F. Kennedy’s patrol boat in a collision with a Japanese destroyer in 1942. Cliff Robertson plays Kennedy, and was JFK’s personal choice for the role, while none other than 25 year old George Takei appears briefly as the helmsman of the Japanese destroyer.
One of the amateur critics on Amazon Prime actually drags Robertson for not trying to imitate Kennedy’s accent or mannerisms, even though JFK himself had specified that the actor playing him was not to bother with that.

The guy down the lane from me had been flying a F*CK BIDEN flag for the last week or so and now it’s gone. Next time I go to my local IGA affiliated store, I’ll have to check and see if the tRumper who was flying a tRump 2024 still has it up.

Huh. My GF is dropping her daughter off this weekend for her first semester of college and dorm life. One of my favorite things about college is that my kids, who would sometimes go back to bed after we woke them up in the mornings, get up not only for an early alarm clock there, but sometimes earlier.

When they come home for break, you can’t get them up.

I realize there is value in debunking the lies of liars, but there is also value in branding incorrigible liars as such, and refusing to deal with their bullshit any more.

US Republicans are long past the point where absolutely every statement they make in public should be reported on with at least the following warning: “This is a Republican statement. Therefore it is almost certainly false, and it should be treated as deliberate lies unless/until it is confirmed by non-Republican sources.”

“…The Enforcement Directorate (ED) explained that approximately 370 crore rupees were deposited by 23 entities into the INR wallets of Yellow Tune Technologies held with Flipvolt Technologies’ crypto exchange. These amounts were “proceeds of crime derived from predatory lending practices,” the authority said, elaborating:

Yellow Tune by using the assistance of Flipvolt crypto exchange … assisted the accused fintech companies in avoiding regular banking channels, and managed to easily take out all the fraud money in the form of crypto assets.

The agency alleged that Flipvolt “has very lax KYC [know-your-customer] norms, no EDD [enhanced due diligence] mechanism, no check on the source of funds of the depositor, no mechanism of raising STRs [suspicious transaction reports].”

In addition, Flipvolt failed to give the complete trail of crypto transactions made by Yellow Tune Technologies and could not supply any form of KYC of the opposite party wallets, ED noted.

The authority concluded that “by encouraging obscurity and having lax AML [anti-money laundering] norms,” the crypto exchange “has actively assisted Yellow Tune in laundering the proceeds of crime worth 370 crore rupees using cryptocurrency.”

Allowed the story to peter out in the press while his sycophants in the media and the halls of power pressured the DOJ to show its hand for the public to see. And only when he knew what it was he was being accused of should he have even begun to formulate a public defense.

Instead, he’s got circus clowns working for him because they’re the only ones who’ll still take IOUs to work for him, so he’s instead just giving the DOJ a growing pile of ammunition while dragging this story out longer and longer to the detriment of himself and the GQP as a whole.

TOPEKA — Melissa Leavitt says her ability to raise money to pay for a statewide hand recount of votes on the constitutional amendment on abortion rights will “have a lot to do with God moving in people’s lives.”

Leavitt ordered the recount before the 5 p.m. Friday deadline after launching an online fundraiser. By Saturday morning, she had raised less than $3,000 toward a $275,000 goal. However, the Kansas City Star reported she had posted a $200,000 bond with the Secretary of State’s Office.

It looks like her hand recount will go ahead.

State Rep. Tatum Lee-Hahn, an incumbent Republican in the state House who lost to another incumbent when their districts were merged, applauds Leavitt’s challenge to the abortion vote in the Kansas Primary.

“Are we honestly so naive to think the entire nation which was watching this amendment vote and covered by every national news media outlet last week, did not have the potential to be fraudulent based on what we’ve seen the deep state do to President Trump just this week?” Lee-Hahn said on her campaign’s Facebook page.

Several recounts are underway in other elections, but those are races where votes were very close and are mandated by law.

Kansas woman says effort to recount abortion vote depends on ‘God moving in people’s lives’ (Raw Story)

She claims the vote must have been fraudulent because of all the attention on the amendment nationwide and because of the way former President Trump has been treated.

Proposal to pundits who want to smack Donny and his “I DECLARE DECLASSIFICATION!!!” BS upside the head: The next time a Trumpanista tries to make that asinine argument to you, ask them aloud “If President Biden decided tomorrow that he wanted to publicly release a stack of classified documents that are politically damaging to Donald Trump, could he just wave his hand over them while saying ‘They’re declassified’ and then release them in their entirety?”

Corn 2?

Okay, I had to look that up. It’s tagline is “the sequel to corn. The new conservative vegetable.”

On a search engine, the whole first page is different Websites about the movie “Children of the Corn 2: The Final Sacrifice.”

The first entry that isn’t that film is from Bayer, on their corn made glyphosphate tolerant (in other words, like almost all corn these days which is not heirloom corn).

Flavourless protein powder you can flavour with “liberal tears” to make you more patriotic?

Vax-dar, a device like a radar gun to see if someone had a Covid-19 vaccine? They don’t seem to have a Website; perhaps you can only buy it on Truth Social?

If I had no scruples whatsoever, I could grift from conservatives so hard.

Republicans in Montana trying to spread more disease and sicken or kill people in the name of Christianity.

HELENA, Mont. — State health officials want to create a religious exemption from routine vaccinations for kids and staff members in childcare facilities and children in certain foster homes.

Under the two proposed administrative rule changes, parents, guardians, and child care staff could submit a notarized affidavit that says being vaccinated against diseases such as polio, measles, and whooping cough goes against their religious beliefs or practices. The childcare measure also would delete an existing requirement that unvaccinated kids stay away from a facility if someone there has contracted a disease against which they are not completely immunized.

The state regulations for foster families currently say all children living in a foster home, other than the foster child, must be immunized against 11 diseases unless they have a medical exemption. The proposed change would add a religious exemption to the medical exemption.

Conservatives can’t write secure Websites, number eleventy million five:

EXCLUSIVE: Anti-vax dating site that let people advertise ‘mRNA FREE’ semen left all its user data exposed (Daily Dot, July 25, 2022)

An anti-vaccine dating website that allows users to procure “mRNA FREE” semen left its users’ personal data exposed online.

The site, Unjected, launched in May 2021 and claims to be the “largest unvaccinated platform” on the internet. Unjected initially made headlines in August after its app was removed from the Apple App Store for violating the company’s policies regarding COVID-19.

Similar in design to Twitter and often referred to as the “Tinder for anti-vaxxers,” Unjected has remained under the radar ever since, quietly adding new features for its small userbase. The site now offers what it describes as “mRNA FREE blood match & fertility directories” where unvaccinated users can donate blood, sperm, or eggs to one another.

While some of the ads for blood appear legitimate, others, such as one offering up unvaccinated semen, appear to have been made in jest. The site’s fertility section allows users the option to offer up their eggs, breastmilk, or semen. Users can also offer to be a surrogate.

This guy needs to be dropped off a pier.

Martin Shkreli is allowing interested parties to sign up for time slots so they can go on a date with the former ‘pharma bro,’ according to a tweet on his somewhat anonymous alt.

The formerly incarcerated Shkreli—who spent four years in prison for securities fraud—said he will be “free for dates starting on September 14th,” which is when his ankle monitor comes off. All dates, he said, come with a “standard gift bag (with NDA).”

The gift bag, according to the form, will include either jewelry, a handbag, or shoes.

The form, a public Google Sheets titled “Date Martin Shkreli,” has categories such as whether the interested party requires travel or a hotel, what their height and weight are, their chest size, and whether they would have any interest in getting pregnant.

There is also a tab asking respondents if they “FOTFD” or “fuck on the first date.”

Some say “yes,” others say “no.” One person agreed only if Shkreli was willing to take an STI test. That date was approved.

Martin Shkreli is using Google Docs to find women who f*ck on the first date (Daily Dot, August 2, 2022)

See, I think that makes them sound way more clever than they’ve demonstrated they are. They tried to float the idea that any damning evidence was “planted” by the Feds, only for Ms. OAN to admit they had CCTV coverage of the entire search. They tried to pin the DOJ by suggesting that publishing the warrant would show it was all a hoax only for Garland to call their bluff and the judge to give them less than a day to either put up or shut up. At this point, saying “IT’S NOT AS BAD AS IT SOUNDS!!!” is likely to be met with “Yeah, BECAUSE IT’S WORSE!”

Clive Sinclair died last fall.

From his Wikipedia entry:

Despite his involvement in computing, Sinclair did not use the Internet, stating that he does not like to have “technical or mechanical things around me” as it distracts from the process of invention.[60][61] In 2010, he stated that he did not use computers himself, and preferred using the telephone rather than email.[62] In 2014, he predicted, “Once you start to make machines that are rivalling and surpassing humans with intelligence, it’s going to be very difficult for us to survive. It’s just an inevitability.”

A futurist to the end, he was probably onto the truth.

Yeah, that’s something that’s also gonna come back to bite whichever lawyer signed off on a government form that all the requested documents had been returned. The cops were all set up, but nobody showed. None.

I just have a feeling that after the mostly bust rallies in Phoenix and Washington, if they couldn’t turn out anyone in freakin’ Wyoming this might be blowing over. (That doesn’t mean a small group or single nutjob won’t try something though.)

The “catastrophic” municipal water system failure in March that prompted a temporary boil advisory in Rawlins was the result of poor engineering and aging infrastructure, exacerbated by drought conditions driven by climate change.

Even as crews scramble to repair and upgrade water facilities, some residents are not complying with lawn watering restrictions, according to city officials. So they’ve stepped up enforcement efforts.

“This is getting really bad, and if we don’t stop [rogue water users] we won’t have any water at all,” Rawlins City Engineer Austin Gilbert told city council members during a recent meeting.

Water delivery volumes for Rawlins are down by about half this summer — a situation that, without major infrastructure upgrades, could get worse for a community that relies on wintertime snowpack to feed the natural springs that provide the bulk of the city’s water. The springs are flowing at about one-third the usual rate this water season, according to the city.

The south-central Wyoming region is experiencing moderate drought conditions and a longer-term climate trend of warmer temperatures and more erratic precipitation. The annual mean springtime temperature in the Upper North Platte Valley has increased by 3.6 degrees Fahrenheit since 1920, according to National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration data.

That’s twice the global average.

I’m sorry, but the excuses that Trumpworld is throwing up is getting more absurd by the day.

Just yesterday, they were claiming that they were incompetent and failed to properly handle classified info because they were rushing to leave the WH.

You don’t just throw classified info into a bunch of boxes.

That is de facto mishandling of classified info. Then, when the DOJ and NA identified documents, and told you to secure them because they were openly available, you put them in a basement padlocked area, again mishandling.

This isn’t about Trump somehow declassifying documents with zero papertrail of him ever doing it. It’s about the theft of classified documents, mishandling that information, and the contents turning out to be nuclear secrets.

This is how I know that behind the scenes, Trumpworld is shitting bricks. The more preposterous the excuses, the greater the panic. I suspect that a good many of Trump’s innermost circle would tell you, probably after a nice glass of single malt and a good Cuban cigar, that they fully expect Trump to be indicted in the not-too-distant future.

We haven’t seen a lot of Obama Derangement Syndrome from Trumpers for a few years. Why? Because Obama left the office quietly, gracefully, and in a manner that should have allowed Trump a seamless transition. And then he kept out of the public spotlight for the most part. Trump has hungered for the spotlight since the 1970s. We could ignore him mostly (sorry, New Yorkers). I never saw a single minute of his gross reality show. But he has insisted on jumping into every frame since Jan. 20, 2021 and a majority of Americans are fucking sick of him and some of those speak out on social media.

Editorial in the Lincoln, Nebr. Journal-Star

One of the arguments in 1933 for making the Nebraska Legislature a single house was the people of the state would be the second house (something like a direct democracy for a lower house).

Local View: Unfair ballot initiative process takes power from people (August 11, 2022)

1,216.

That number may seem arbitrary, but in Nebraska, it’s a direct reflection of how undemocratic some of our oldest legislative practices are. That number reflects the number of Douglas County voters [population 584,526] it takes to have the same ability to qualify an issue for the ballot as a single voter in Arthur County [population 434].

How is this possible?

In Nebraska, for an initiative to be on the ballot, campaigns must collect signatures from 5% of registered voters in 38 of the state’s 93 counties. This means that when it comes to influencing whether their respective counties will meet the signature threshold for certain measures, it takes significantly more voters in the most populous counties to match the power of one voter in the least populous.

This unconstitutional law is a direct violation of the 14th Amendment and has tipped the scales, suppressing the voices of thousands of voters on issues such as tax reform and marijuana legalization.

When it comes to elections and representation, the crux of the 14th Amendment is “one person, one vote.” By continuing the current practice, Nebraska’s officials are prioritizing geography over voices, with small population counties wielding more power in meeting the signature threshold.

To which it was pointed out:

This entire line of argument makes zero sense. If he is immune due to legislative privilege then he can testify and he wouldn’t be able to plead the 5th. Legislative privilege doesn’t shield him from testifying it only theoretically shields him from prosecution.

About 5’3. Most people in my family are on the shorter side except my brother who somehow grew to about 5’10.

We have that split in our family, my maternal grandmother, middle sister and my oldest daughter are all 5’3” or smaller, my paternal grandmother was 5’9” and my oldest brother 6’4”…I fell somewhere in the middle.

Trump’s personal residence? They may very well have been lying around. They were his toys that he could show to impress other leaders on the world stage.

And how many documents may he have taken over the years to Mar-a-Lago and kept there? It’s not just those he spirited away in the last days — but there were doubtless others that he transferred there and never returned.

Democrats call for allowing the voters to decide if abortion should be allowed in West Virginia. The W.V. special session to ban abortion failed to pass a new law, so the A.G. is battling in court to enforce a 19th century abortion ban instead of the 20 week ban instituted in a modern law; I have a hard time understanding why a 19th century law banning all abortion wasn’t superseded by the modern law.

there is a legitimate reading that there are limitations and he was answering david frost’s context when he made that comment

from the wiki

In part 3, Frost asked Nixon whether the president could do something illegal in certain situations such as against antiwar groups and others if he decides “it’s in the best interests of the nation or something”. Nixon replied: “Well, when the president does it, that means that it is not illegal”, by definition

Wyoming newspapers were all reporting for a whole week about a planned rally in front of the FBI in Cheyenne yesterday. US House primary candidate Harriet Hageman was spinning up people at rallies and press releases to go.

If the government charges Donald Trump with anything, then things might be different.
