VIDEO: Giuliani’s GA Grand Jury Appearance Should Terrify Trump

It’s Rudy’s turn in the barrel.

Rudy Giuliani testified for six hours to a grand jury in which he is a target of the investigation into potential election fraud in Georgia. MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell details why Trump “cannot be confident” that Giuliani did not give that grand jury some evidence that “moved them closer to the biggest possible target of their investigation, Donald Trump.”

The worst enemy of any Trumpite: a recording device

They all twist themselves into so many lying pretzel knots that anything that objectively records what they say is, sooner or later, a weapon that takes them down.

Shorter: Trump’s own “There’s always a Tweet for that” nature of self-contradiction and lying has so permeated his followers that they self-incriminate constantly.

(pedantic question — if they’ve been pardoned, is it as if the conviction never happened? They’re not a felon anymore?)

“Pardons symbolize forgiveness for the crime, but usually don’t wipe out guilt or expunge the conviction. This typically means that, where asked, job applicants must disclose the conviction, though they can add that a pardon was granted. It also means courts can consider pardoned offenses when deciding the appropriate punishment for any future crimes.”

That’s our governor. He’s running against Republican Dr. Scott Jensen, one of the leaders of the anti-COVID-measures brigade, who became (in)famous early in the pandemic for originating the “The 2% death rate is overcounted” theory that gained widespread traction among right-wing deniers. I don’t think he’s going to have any particular difficulty getting re-elected, but nothing’s a sure thing anymore.

Why Did Trump Resist Returning the Classified Documents?
politicalwire.com
August 18, 2022

New York Times: “Although Trump White House officials were warned about the proper handling of sensitive material, aides said Mr. Trump had little interest in the security of government documents or protocols to keep them protected.”

“Early on, Mr. Trump became known among his staff as a hoarder who threw all manner of paper — sensitive material, news clips and various other items — into cardboard boxes that a valet or other personal aide would cart around with him wherever he went.”

“Mr. Trump repeatedly had material sent up to the White House residence, and it was not always clear what happened to it. He sometimes asked to keep material after his intelligence briefings, but aides said he was so uninterested in the paperwork during the briefings themselves that they never understood what he wanted it for.”

I find it hard to understand the dissonance between the stories of TFG chewing up/flushing/tearing to bits documents to leave no trail, and now this, to have people following him with cardboard boxes that he fills with all the paper of his life.

He wanted to keep papers that reminded him of key moments in his presidency, things that he felt proud of himself for. Assuming there is an element of narcissism involved, he would want to be able to look back at these papers and feel the pride in himself that he felt the first time.

it doesnt explain why he ‘resisted’ returning everything when it was brought to his attention, or why they lied about having returned it all in june

Trump’s behavior makes more sense to me if I think of him as a modern day Henry VIII. He just wants people to do what he wants them to do, when he wants them to do it. Absolutely no questions asked. Someone following him around with boxes of documents makes him feel important. There no demand too petty to quench his thirst for control. He wanted to reign over the US they way he holds sway in his private companies. He’s above the law. Rules are for the little people.

What keeps me up at nights is the thought of Michael Flynn, Paul Manafort, et al rummaging through the boxes and suggesting additional content.

Yesterday we had Doug Mastriano and his “prophet” Julie Green. Today we have Don Jr. hobnobbing with Steve Shultz of ElijahStreans, who has been pushing false prophets and prophecies since the ’00s. He pushed prpgets who believed God was going to overturn the election.

More than the Mastriano thing, this SERIOUSLY alarms me. Trump knows what he’s doing, he knows his people are mostly Evangelicals and some do listen to these false prophets.

Stay alert, folks!

They’d need a separate sheet for Trump lawyers - between Eastman, Giuliani, Powell, Cohen, and others, because we’ll probably find crime-fraud exceptions to all their claims of privilege reveal criminal conduct and conspiracy between Trump and his lawyers to commit and cover up crimes.

The bolded part is what I don’t get. Did they think that the government wouldn’t know what was missing? That was just dumb.

If he had said “I think I’m allowed to keep these”, he could have tied this up in court for a long time. As it was, lying about it undercut his claim that he had declassified things. If he had, then just say that, and wait for the courts to sort it out.

That’s not a bad bet, actually, in a government with billions of documents, and millions of classified documents. They probably only got caught because they had some of the stuff that people REALLY paid attention to.

From the judge’s ruling on DeathSentence’s Stop WOKE Act:

Florida’s Legislators may well find Plaintiffs’ speech “repugnant.” But under our constitutional scheme, the “remedy” for repugnant speech “is more speech, not enforced silence.” Whitney v. California, 274 U.S. 357, 377 (1927). Indeed, “it is the purpose of the First Amendment to preserve an uninhibited marketplace of ideas in which truth will ultimately prevail.” Red Lion Broad. Co. v. FCC, 395 U.S. 367, 390 (1969). If Florida truly believes we live in a post-racial society, then let it make its case. But it cannot win the argument by muzzling its opponents. Because, without justification, the IFA attacks ideas, not conduct, Plaintiffs are substantially likely to succeed on the merits of this lawsuit

It’s beautiful.

More striking than the disparity is how quickly it has come about. As recently as W’s second term, Republicans had the advantage, albeit a small one. The now extinct Republican liberals probably took quite a few degrees with them when they left.

Current Repugs are not just people without degrees. You can be very intelligent and knowledgeable without a degree, and very stupid with one (ie Gohmert, Gaetz etc.). The new Repug rank and file are people who never got degrees because they they are not interested in learning and do not respect knowledge.

Cool snake-head tats.

They live for only 5-7 days as moths and do not eat.

From wiki:

Their habitat is primarily dry tropical forests, secondary forests, and shrublands across South Asia, East Asia, and Southeast Asia, including Borneo.[8]

This species has been found outside of its native range on at least two occasions. An adult female was found in 2012 in Ramsbottom, England after it landed on a windowsill, and presumed to have escaped from a private collection. Another specimen was photographed in Bellevue, Washington in August 2022, the first time this species has been detected in the United States.

Step on one or two on a dew filled walk barefoot through the grass…..as they are between your toes…..and up your heel….and your wife is screaming and doing a dance she has not done since the last time she stepped on a leopard slug….

“In the days since the FBI seized classified and top secret documents from Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort, the former President and his allies have claimed that Trump had a ‘standing order’ to declassify documents he took from the Oval Office to the White House residence,” CNN reports.

“But 18 former top Trump administration officials tell CNN they never heard any such order issued during their time working for Trump, and that they believe the claim to be patently false.”

“Several officials laughed at the notion. One senior administration official called it ‘bullshit.’ Two of Trump’s former chiefs of staff went on the record to knock down the claim.”

Nothing made me angrier than watching Tucker Carlson have the nerve to even criticize Joe Biden because Joe Biden did exactly what Tucker Carlson wanted him to do exactly to the T. Pull out everybody right now, you know, no ifs, ands, or buts, no middle ground whatsoever. Not even Trump was, I think, thinking of doing that, you know, we would’ve at least left people in Bagram.

They’ve been wrong on every front and it’s getting dangerous. You start to lose people in this kind of situation and you, you can’t have this naive outlook of the world.

In an emailed newsletter, Children’s Health Defense said Facebook and Instagram had taken down its accounts after a 30-day ban by the social networks. The nonprofit, which Mr. Kennedy has run since 2018, accused the apps of censorship.

“Removing CHD accounts is evidence of a clearly orchestrated attempt to stop the impact we have during a time of heightened criticism of our public health institutions,” the group said.

The CEO made international headlines when he slashed his own roughly $1m salary to $70,000, a move he said would allow the rest of his employees to reach the same salary level in three years time.

According to CBS News, around 70 employees at the company were given raises, and 30 of those saw their salaries doubled.

The fact that Mr Price fairly compensated his employees made him a target in the right-wing media, where he was labelled a socialist and his business written off as doomed to fail. However, the business has continued to grow since then, and now pays its employees a minimum wage of $80,000 per year, according to Mr Price.

re: #121 Mike Lamb

He serves at the pleasure of Biden, therefore he is a Biden appointee. Neat trick.

I enjoyed Tapper’s response: “We understand each other.”

Yep, I understood Turner, too.

among Southwest tribes, it is traditionally worn as a symbol of one’s status, wealth and cultural belonging.
to which tribe does she belong?

It’s pretty and expensive and she has no clue about the phrase “cultural appropriation”?

The GOP is that gang of thugs you find in Jabba the Hutt’s palace in Star Wars.

Naturally, Trump is Jabba the Hutt. Kushner is Salacious Crumb.

Yeah great journalism by Tapper. He could’ve also pointed out that the FBI director gets appointed to a 10 year term so they don’t look political. But that would take some research.

FBI directors are political, and it’s way past time we got a Democrat in that position. It’s stupid that the FBI director is always a Republican.

Hoover was a Democrat. Back when the Democrats were, y’know, the pre-LBJ, pre-Civil Rights kind of Democrats.
