As expected the comments are rife with misogyny and all sorts of kookiness.

My first thought is that such procedures will soon be outlawed in the GOP takes over in coming elections.

Since it is almost a law of nature that everything an EvangeMAGAt says is projection, he could be onto something. Maybe he is telling us what would work with the MAGA-Christians themselves.
Set aside a large part of the arid west, someplace where superstition and Magatry already prevail. I suggest a large stretch of West Texas from Abilene to Amarillo, with gerrymandered corridors to like-mindless areas in other states. Surround it with barbed wire, minefields, genetically engineered wolves, killer attack robots, and moats with laser armed sharks. Give the residents some building materials, basic hand tools, a supply of simple but nourishing food, and ammunition (lots and lots of ammunition). Herd them in, monitor from orbit and let nature take its course.

What I found most interesting is a doctor stating (about 17:50 in the video) that in the US where one can buy a human egg, an egg from a blue-eyed blond from California costs several times that of an egg from a brunette from Florida.

Apparently superior genes (*cough*) go for a premium.

This hasn’t been confirmed, but it’s potentially significant. Politico reports:

Speaker Nancy Pelosi will travel to Armenia this weekend in a show of support for the country, which has been locked in a deadly fight with Azerbaijan, two people familiar with the visit told POLITICO.
[…]
It will be the speaker’s latest dramatic foreign trip following her contentious arrival in Taiwan last month. With the midterms approaching — and the possibility that she will lose the gavel if Republicans return to the majority — the belief in Washington is that Pelosi wants to cement her legacy as a champion of human rights, not only in the United States but around the world.
[…]
When asked about the upcoming trip, Drew Hammill, the speaker’s deputy chief of staff, said, “We don’t confirm or deny international travel in advance due to longstanding security protocols.”

My only problem with recent casting is that on House of the Dragon, it disturbs me to see Dr Who doing the things Daemon does.

I’m sure I’ll get used to it eventually; on the other hand, it took a whole season of Hawaii Five-0 before I could look at Kono and not see a Cylon. Or on B5, when Chekhov ran the Psi-Corps. My disbelief suspenders get all stretched out sometimes.

I wouldn’t say that quite yet - but it does look like opportunistic activities are flaring up as the regional players wake up to the fact that Russia is in no position right now to do much about it.

Telling the Bees JG Whittier

….Just the same as a month before,—
The house and the trees,
The barn’s brown gable, the vine by the door,—
Nothing changed but the hives of bees.

Before them, under the garden wall,
Forward and back,
Went drearily singing the chore-girl small,
Draping each hive with a shred of black.

Trembling, I listened: the summer sun
Had the chill of snow;
For I knew she was telling the bees of one
Gone on the journey we all must go!

Then I said to myself, “My Mary weeps
For the dead to-day:
Haply her blind old grandsire sleeps
The fret and the pain of his age away.”

But her dog whined low; on the doorway sill,
With his cane to his chin,
The old man sat; and the chore-girl still
Sung to the bees stealing out and in.

And the song she was singing ever since
In my ear sounds on:—
“Stay at home, pretty bees, fly not hence!
Mistress Mary is dead and gone!”

instead of feeling, experiencing each and every moment, it always felt like an intrusion; a job or responsibility to create a thing to say ‘look at what i did’.

i’m not knocking photography or those who enjoy it. I travel with those who do. makes it easier too.

It’s been suggested that during the initial phase of the war, the Russians were using badly outdated maps of strategic military positions within Ukraine. I honestly don’t know if that’s the case….but I wouldn’t be all that surprised if that was true.

It sure would explain one helluva lot.

Off to work for the last lesson of the week. Back later.

i have not much photographed my travels. trying to catch and chronicle everything that’s happening, everybody and everything i see. for who?

instead of feeling, experiencing each and every moment, it always felt like an intrusion; a job or responsibility to create a thing to say ‘look at what i did’.

i’m not knocking photography or those who enjoy it. I travel with those who do. makes it easier too.

under water as well. i want to feel the dive, not spend my time setting up a shot or worse, missing it. (gasp!)

I made myself learn to take rapid fire pics with one hand and keep my brain and eyes attentive to the experience. Took 600+ pics on the Boston Duck tour and had the experience undiminished.

Outrageous. Any law that requires such a travesty needs to be repealed. Zimmerman and Rittenhouse got away with murder but this obvious act of self defense is being penalized.

She pled guilty to a felony, so as a felon the law required reparations. She couldn’t have pled self-defense because the scumbag was asleep when she killed him, though he clearly deserved it.

I moved my VRPC into a new case. The old case was extremely cluttered and I had a huge air cooler on the CPU. I switched to water cooling and a roomier case, and can now set the CPU and GPU to run quite a bit faster than they had run before. I also upgraded to a 1300w power supply in preparation for Nvidia’s 40x series cards.

The thing is full of LEDs and can be set to be extremely gaudy, but white is also an option.

I saw the argument that “other states should help share the load of Texas having to deal with all these immigrants,” which, there is a case to be made that such a system could and should be set up. The point, however, is that it should be a SYSTEM - not just “I’m going to fly a bunch of people in and say, ‘Here you go, deal with it.’” I know the point they’re trying to make, which is that Texas has to deal with people just suddenly showing up in the middle of the night and therefore you should too, but that’s just petty. Do your fucking jobs, Greg and Ron; negotiate with the government and other states to get a load-sharing system in place.

I saw someone in the Twitter replies somewhere going WHARRGARBL OTHER STATES SHOULD JUST VOLUNTARILY OFFER TO HELP TEXAS AND OTHER BORDER STATES WITH THEIR IMMIGRANT PROBLEM and I’m over here like, why? That’s not how our federal system works. You don’t just sit there and whine and hope somebody takes pity on you and does something (and besides; do you really see Greg “if I could shoot the liberals in my state, I would” Abbott accepting help from the likes of New York or Massachusetts voluntarily?). If it’s as big of an emergency as you claim, you ask Washington for help, and they in turn will ask other states to provide help, if it is needed.

Ask them what part of “united states” they don’t understand.

It’s still Libertarian funny money, but at least it isn’t a massive waste of energy anymore and doesn’t encourage people to buy up video cards to use to waste that energy.

Ethereum developers today executed the “Merge,” an upgrade that eliminates mining and dramatically reduces the energy consumption of the world’s second-biggest cryptocurrency. Today’s action “completed Ethereum’s transition to proof-of-stake consensus, officially deprecating proof-of-work and reducing energy consumption by ~99.95 percent,” the ethereum.org Merge page said.

The Ethereum blockchain has existed since July 2015, and planning for today’s change has been in the works for several years. Because a botched transition could have caused chaos, Ethereum developers over the past year have “repeatedly pushed back the date of ‘the Merge’ to give themselves more time to prepare,” as Ars writer Timothy B. Lee previously wrote in a detailed feature on the transition. The Merge will “put the world’s Ethereum miners out of work,” as the new system doesn’t require the powerful graphics cards previously needed to maintain the blockchain and create new ether, Lee wrote.

Ethereum completes the “Merge,” which ends mining and cuts energy use by 99.95% (ARSTechnica)

@Belefon, this is for you. I saw it today and it made me think of you. Having lost two dogs in the last couple of months, I wasn’t able to respond earlier because I kept crying, so I had to scroll through everything. Please know you are in my thoughts.

I cribbed this from LinkedIn.

WHY DOGS LIVE LESS THAN HUMAN!!!

Here’s the surprising answer of a 6 year old child.

Being a veterinarian, I had been called to examine a ten-year-old Irish Wolfhound named Belker. The dog’s owners, Ron, his wife Lisa, and their little boy Shane, were all very attached to Belker, and they were hoping for a miracle.

I examined Belker and found he was dying of cancer. I told the family we couldn’t do anything for Belker, and offered to perform the euthanasia procedure for the old dog in their home.

As we made arrangements, Ron and Lisa told me they thought it would be good for six-year-old Shane to observe the procedure. They felt as though Shane might learn something from the experience.

The next day, I felt the familiar catch in my throat as Belker’s family surrounded him. Shane seemed so calm, petting the old dog for the last time, that I wondered if he understood what was going on. Within a few minutes, Belker slipped peacefully away.

The little boy seemed to accept Belker’s transition without any difficulty or confusion. We sat together for a while after Belker’s Death, wondering aloud about the sad fact that dogs’ lives are shorter than human lives. Shane, who had been listening quietly, piped up, “I know why.”

(hidden only because it is long)

For the first time, a video emerges of a recruitment talk for Wagner by Prigozhin in a Russian prison camp. Absolutely bonkers. “Nobody goes back behind bars. If you serve six months, you are free. If you arrive in Ukraine and decide it’s not for you, we execute you.”

I know how that shit works:

If you serve 6 months - you continue fighting or we execute you.

Gee, a sneery tweet from Ted Cruz turns out be bullshit! Whatta shocker!!

A) Even if the “National Guard” thing was true (?), how many Guardsmen is it going to take to manage the relocation of 50 civilians (including children)? A platoon? Two?

B) “4.2 million illegal immigrants” in Texas? SRSLY? That’s 14% of the population of the state- one in seven people? Is that figure even remotely credible?
