President Joe Biden: The 2022 60 Minutes Interview

Politics • Views: 16,200

YouTube

A lot of this is good, very good. But I have a big problem with saying “the pandemic is over,” when thousands are still dying every week. I understand the stupid politics at play in the issue, but I still think it’s deeply irresponsible to make statements like this. I like Joe Biden, but this was a mistake. It’s a capitulation to the right wing noise machine.

In a wide-ranging conversation with Scott Pelley, President Biden answers questions on Taiwan, inflation, the classified documents found in former President Trump’s home and more.

“We still have a problem with Covid” should have been the first response.

Pandemic’s over folks. Begun, the endemic covid has.

That’s the story - we’ve watched the GOP strategy of not giving a crap how many Americans die from covid sweep across the nation, and 1 million + Americans are dead, and the GOP still don’t give a crap, but they’ll harp on Biden’s statement that the pandemic is over as a means to try and end all the other policies put in place during covid pandemic to save lives, including the vaccination requirements for servicemembers, etc.

Covid is still killing hundreds a day in the US. Vaccinations save lives, but the GOP just doesn’t give a crap.

Covid vaccinations are required because they affect military readiness. Period.

I know but maybe he’ll reasonable enough to abdicate until then (naaaah…).

I don’t think he’ll abdicate. The Windsors seem to take the monarchy seriously (well, except for Edward VIII, but that was likely for the best, all things considered).

From downstairs:

Polling usually gets you in the ballpark, when you have a large enough data set. There is also significance to the fact that the polling has been trending in Democrats’ favor for months. But each election is unique. This is the first midterm of the modern polling era in which one of the two parties has just stripped over half of the electorate of their basic human rights, so I believe there is a chance we could see a blue wave strengthening Democratic control of the federal government, at the exact moment in time that it is most necessary.

The size of the dataset can be irrelevant if it’s not selected properly. That was the lesson of the 1936 Literary Digest poll which might have been the largest dataset in history of American polls (2.27 million respondents), but failed miserably because it wasn’t an accurate representation of the voting population.

part of the larger problem:

treating guidelines as laws
and laws as guidelines
when it suits them

and far too many people willfully misread and misinterpret both.
again, when it suits them.

that’s why whole clauses disappear - ie the 2A
or ‘with the intention of” becomes ‘under any circumstances whatever’
or when ‘shall’ no longer means ‘shall’

apparently he’s really bent out of shape

Donald Trump is fuming after Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) flew roughly 50 migrants by plane to Martha’s Vineyard last week, claiming the Florida governor stole his idea, Rolling Stone reports.

Trump also “complained” DeSantis is “attempting to take the national news cycle away from him” and believes the “credit” for the Martha’s Vineyard stunt “should be his.”

The Commonwealth countries come first, because Liz was their queen.

Something which is beyond Trump’s ability to accept.

Also there were probably seating priorities based on order of countries.

I saw the Biden’s arrive. Behind most other people. They arrived by themselves (since Biden was given the courtesy of taking his own car), entered the Abbey by themselves.

I also suspect sitting where they are made it easier for Biden to get away quickly.
