Found this picture on my phone. It’s from three years ago. It’s upstairs. About a year later, we out a gate up to keep the old man on the left, Rex, from trying to go upstairs, because he had to hop down the stairs and that was getting to be too much on the joints.

Two awesome dogs

I truly loath DeSantis. He has a soul stained by enjoying and then profiteering from the suffering of other human beings.

How to prevent customs agents from copying your phone’s content
U.S. customs is getting more invasive, with data from thousands of U.S. phones sitting in a central database

*snip*

Data copied from devices at entry points into the United States — including airports and border crossings — gets saved for 15 years in a database searchable by thousands of CBP employees without a warrant, The Washington Post’s Drew Harwell reported this week. The data includes contacts, call logs, messages and photos from phones, tablets and computers, according to CBP. It could also contain social media posts, medical and financial information, or internet browsing history, according to a report from the New York think tank Brennan Center for Justice.

*snip*

Unlike other law enforcement, border authorities don’t need a warrant to search your device. They may conduct a basic search — in which they scroll through your device inspecting texts, photos or anything else they can easily access — even if they don’t suspect you of wrongdoing. But if an agent suspects you pose a “national security concern,” they can run an advanced search using a digital forensics tool to copy the data from your device.

*snip*

If you’re an American citizen, you can refuse to unlock your devices for CBP agents and still enter the country. (This may not be clear from the information sheet agents are supposed to give you during the search, which says the process is “mandatory.”)

*snip*

Noncitizens, meanwhile, aren’t guaranteed entry if they decline to unlock their devices.

Heh, sometimes biometric locks do have their downsides. (From 2005)

A Malaysian businessman has lost a finger to car thieves impatient to get around his Mercedes’ fingerprint security system. Accountant K Kumaran, the BBC reports, had at first been forced to start the S-class Merc, but when the carjackers wanted to start it again without having him along, they chopped off the end of his index finger with a machete.

From what I understand, if you are a US citizen, they are supposed to let you in. However, it is likely to be without your device.

In theory, they are supposed to return it to you within 5 days. However, I suspect that while 5 days is optimistic, you are likely to eventually get most of it back somewhere down the road.

re: #14 Captain Ron

The fetid swamp that is Virginia actually had a dry weekend. And it looks like the next meaningful rainfall isn’t until Thursday. So I have been able to actually get some yardwork done.

I spent Sunday afternoon digging out vegetation from the cracks in the pavement in front of my house. Some of it was getting close to a foot high.

Today (and likely tomorrow) was raking up fallen leaves and tree debris preparatory to raking fallen leaves and tree debris from the autumn leaf fall next month.

After that, up onto the roof to clean out the gutters preparatory to getting up on the roof and cleaning out the gutters in November. *sigh*

At least the annual bear migrant seems to have gone East of me this year. Passing through Wolftrap and into Vienna. They usually head southeast until they either are tranq-darted and dumped back into the Appalachians or they catch a car down around Springfield.

Bringing this over from the previous topic.

re: #56 austin_blue

I’m off to finish a book in the peace and quiet of the bedroom, since PBS is rebroadcasting the first episode of the Ken Burns series on the Shoah. Second and third two-hour segments (it’s only six hours long) on Tuesday and Wednesday.

People I heard today were asking “How much did the Brits pay for that funeral?”

I think the answers was “not that much” given that almost all of the participants were taking the King’s Shilling.

But JFC on a trampoline, nobody does proper pomp like those Pommie Bastards. That display was just magnificent. A right and proper send off for the old girl.

We’ll have another state funeral to compare it to next week, when on Tuesday, September 27 (Monday our time) the state funeral for Abe Shinzo is held. The Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) basically forced upon the country, which is paying for it (~$12 million). It will take place in the Budokan (an arena famed for rock concerts among other things). VP Kamala Harris will represent the USA at the funeral.

For a rather in-depth discussion in English about why the state funeral is ticking people off, here’s an article:

japantimes.co.jp

Oh, and this whole notion of following the rules (as discussed in the article) is a very big thing in Japan. The current prime minister, Kishida Fumio, steamrolled over any opposition in the beginning, but now people are asking, “but hey, this isn’t in the statutes or constitution, guys.”

To be clear, the state funeral is going to happen, but the LDP already has a huge problem with the fact that it appears to have been captured by a Korean religion (the Unification Church aka Moonies). The funeral is likely to cause the LDP’s popularity to dip further. I’ve said it before, but the actions of the assassin, who was motivated by Abe’s connection to the UC and the UC’s impact on his own family, has caused a massive reckoning regarding the presence of the UC in government in general for over half a century.

(To be clear: Jake Adelstein is kinda weird, but he’s lived in Japan 30 years, and used to be a journalist at one of the big Japanese papers, but his job made him kinda weird.)

Fingerprints won’t work on my phone because I have one of those glass screen protectors on it, and I have never been able to get fingerprints to work with it. Occasionally face recognition works, but the go to for getting the thing open is tapping in my PIN. Since I got my phone several months ago, I have gotten used to just putting the PIN in.

As for why I got a screen protector—the Galaxy S10+ had a CRAPTASTIC glass screen, completely marred with scratches over 2ish years I had it. I only used my fingers on it, I have no idea why it was so scratched up. I decided I was going to put a screen on the new phone and maybe I wouldn’t feel so impelled to trade it in two years down the road. So far, the screen has worked fine.

One of Becky Chambers’ Wayfarers novels (Record of a Spaceborn Few) has human composting as a subplot and gives a fairly complete description. The first time I heard of such a thing was in passing in Heinlein’s The Moon is a Harsh Mistress, which I read in the 1970s. In an essentially closed society, whether Heinlein’s Luna or Chambers’ Fleet, human composting is a way of not poisoning the earth with embalming fluid or polluting the air with the byproducts of cremation. And it keeps the rare minerals our bodies carry with us in the environment and not dispersed.

Oh yeah, just a reminder—every element above iron on the periodic table of elements was either created via seeding in an asymptotic giant branch stars (s-process) or via supernovae or neutron star mergers (r-process). And of course *everything* started out in the Big Bang 13.7 billion years ago.

From the NYT articles posted downstairs, it appears that team trump misread the room:

The website Axios reported that the Trump team did so (offered Dearie as acceptable Special Master) because the lawyers believed that the judge shared their skepticism of the F.B.I., because he was one of the judges on the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court who approved of warrants to surveil a 2016 Trump campaign adviser named Carter Page. Two of the four warrants the court approved were later declared invalid.

re: #39 Belafon

I think the estimate is that we’re the product of a third star, after two lifetimes and explosions.

At least a third generation star. After hydrogen recombination and then the universe becoming transparent after the Big Bang (~400,000 years?), stars began to form and then become supernovae. This can happen relatively quickly (at least in star terms). Betelgeuse, which is thought to be close (~100,000 years) to becoming a supernova, is only 10 million years old. You can cram a whole lot of 10 million year old exploding stars into a billion years.

The one thing that astonishes me about Type II supernovae is that the last stage (silicon to nickel, which decays into cobalt and then into iron) takes only about five days before degeneracy occurs, the star collapses and then explodes.

I still have it on my bucket list that I’d like to see a naked eye supernova before I die. No, SN 1987A does not count, it was in the Southern Hemisphere and not terribly spectacular because of distance. It’s not like my then-boyfriend and I didn’t talk about going to South America to see it, but I was in law school, so we couldn’t swing it. (Yes, I’m weird.)

From the NYT articles posted downstairs, it appears that team trump misread the room:

The biggest issue facing Team Trump in both forums (Dearie and 11th Cir) is the same as it always is for any lawyers defending Trump: He can’t keep his fucking mouth shut. He’s been screaming for weeks that everything was declassified, that he can do it with just the wave of a hand, and anything he declassified is automatically his. While they’ve been at least self-aware enough not to make such arguments in Cannon’s court, they’ve tried to insinuate that nothing taken was classified and so Trump has a rightful claim of ownership under “privilege.” And the moment a higher court shows the least bit of skepticism about that claim, they spray out a cloud of squid ink about how they don’t have to actually prove any of that because it would hurt Donny’s defense if (read: when) criminal charges are eventually brought.

Then the people who don’t like it don’t have to do it. Why does “the church” think it needs to get involved in other people’s lives?

The Catholic Church in Germany has come out in opposition to “forest burials” in which one’s ashes are buried under trees, they say it is a reversion to “pagan practices”.

Because nothing says “modern religion” like embalming and sealing someone in a lead-lined box.

they no longer see the need as they are now the dominant religion. now it is all about suppressing paganism.

the Lutheran Church is very much opposed to Hallowe’en in Germany, mostly because it falls on Reformation Day, and also supposedly because it promotes paganism.

There are some regions previously inhabited by the Celts (including our village) where Hallowe’en never died out, it is celebrated as Klumpennacht where the kids dress up and go about the village with lanterns made of turnips (Klumpen) and collect treats.

Really good.

Dr Lizardo  Sep 20, 2022 • 2:21:56am

And here’s the lyrics to that song, first in Turkish, then in English:

[1st verse]
Gözləməkdən gözlərimdə qala qurdum
Yoxdu fərqi yollar boş gəlir artıq
Yağır göydən ovcuma günahlarım
Dərinlərdə boşluqda bir sən yatır

[Refrain]
Uzaqda qal
Məni hərdən xatırla
İndi başqa
Tam başqa bir adamam

Uzaqda qal
Uzaqda qal
Uzaqda qal

[2nd verse]
Tükənmiş arzularım ümidlərimə bağlandım
Sonsuz yollar yenə məni səndən qopardı
Ulduzlara bax orda sevgimiz yanır
Bəzi şeylər bizlərdən çox uzaqdı

[Refrain]
Uzaqda qal
Məni hərdən xatırla
İndi başqa
Tam başqa bir adamam
________________________________________

English:

[1st verse]
I built a castle in my eyes from waiting
It doesn’t matter, the roads are empty now
It rains my sins from the sky
Deep in the void lies a you

[Refrain]
Stay away
Remember me sometimes
Now another
I am a completely different person

Stay away
Stay away
Stay away

[2nd verse]
I clung to my exhausted hopes
Endless roads took me away from you again
Look at the stars, our love is burning there
Some things were far from us

[Refrain]
Stay away
Remember me sometimes
Now another
I am a completely different person

re: #46 Targetpractice

It’s glorious to see, isn’t it?

So let me get this straight: Republicans are criminalizing women crossing state lines for abortions but, they’re perfectly ok with trafficking asylum seekers — across the country?

Time to start floating rumors that one of those immigrants was pregnant and used her stay in Massachusetts to get a state-funded abortion.

Yeah, especially when we all know it’s only going to get worse. I figure in next 24-48 hours we’ll see two things happen:

1. Trump will begin attacking Judge Dearie as (what else?) biased against him for insisting upon evidence to support the assertion that none of the documents were classified and that he won’t agree to Loose Cannon’s obvious effort to drag this shit out by setting the deadline as Nov 30th.

2. Trump’s lawyers will be back before Cannon, demanding that she put a leash on Judge Dearie and just end the charade that this is an independent review rather than a blatant attempt at obstructing justice.

Because nothing says “modern religion” like embalming and sealing someone in a lead-lined box.

Judaism isn’t exactly “modern”, but… a proper burial by our traditions involves no embalming, no sealed box, none of that satin pillows and what-not. Either wrap the deceased in a plain linen shroud, or put them in a simple wooden box (not air-tight, not water-tight), and they can start decomposing as soon as they’re in the ground.

LOL. Pootie-poot just can’t catch a break, can he?

Two of Turkey’s largest banks have suspended their acceptance of Russia’s Mir payments system after U.S. warnings of punishment for sanctions evasion, Bloomberg reported Monday.

Mir (Russian for “peace” and “world”) became an alternative for Russian travelers after their Visa and Mastercard cards stopped working abroad. The two international payment system providers suspended Russian operations over the country’s Feb. 24 invasion of Ukraine.

Turkey’s largest private lender IsBank and Denizbank, a Turkish unit of the United Arab Emirates’ NBD, suspended transactions through Russia’s Mir system.

The U.S. Treasury warned banks outside the United States last week that dealing with Mir would “risk supporting Russia’s efforts to evade U.S. sanctions.”

Good news.

Gas storage facilities in Germany are more than 90% full, according to data released by the Aggregated Gas Storage Inventory (Agsi), a European energy data platform.

The German government has planned for 95% of storage capacity to be filled by November. The storage is seen as essential for Germany to get through winter without Russian gas imports.

“If everything goes well, savings in Germany are high and we will have a bit of luck with the weather, we will have a chance at getting through the winter comfortably,” Economy Minister Robert Habeck said on Monday.

“That means, however, that the storage facilities will be empty again at the end of the winter, in this case really empty, because we are going to use the gas,” he added.

Yeah, this is why forum-shopping this shit to Loose Cannon was a massive mistake, assuming that her decision to play “fill-in-the-blanks” with their legal filings to give Donny what he demanded would continue to fly with whoever ended up being appointed the special master. Word since yesterday is that his stooges picked Judge Dearie because they hoped his part in the Carter Page warrant business had soured his relationship with the FBI and would make him more amenable to their “privilege” BS.

Trump’s team is about to learn what it feels like to be a bug on a windshield.

Medvedev has explained the goal of the annexation: so that, after the new territories are formally declared Russian in the constitution, no future ruler would have any wiggle room in regard to them. So they are setting up a “psychological” red line to allow themselves even more in the future than they have already done.

That becomes apparently obvious when you read the entirety of the Trump team’s letter to Judge Dearie. They explicitly say, “Yeah, we don’t think your timeline is good, there’s no way we can finish any earlier than the end of November.” Which is, conveniently, after the midterm elections, indicating that he is counting on a Republican majority in Congress to take the heat off him.

From what I understand, if you are a US citizen, they are supposed to let you in. However, it is likely to be without your device.

In theory, they are supposed to return it to you within 5 days. However, I suspect that while 5 days is optimistic, you are likely to eventually get most of it back somewhere down the road.

Or they borrow the chip for a bit while the rest of your phone is “stored” in a cement mixer and accidentally mangled.

Are CNN or Fox inviting them on?

Something they keep stressing — it was originally planned for next year, but they were so alarmed at what they’ve seen happening here in politics that they put everything else aside and rushed to get this done for now.

The West just needs to straight-up say, publicly, “The war will continue until Russia is defeated, by which we mean, they will leave the entirety of Ukrainian territory, they will renounce any and all territorial claims on Ukraine and they will agree to pay reparations for the damage they’ve caused. End of story.”

And start absolutely pouring weapons into Ukraine. Russia must realize they will not win this.

And the West will probably again fail in regard to the weapons. As I wrote earlier, long-range missile systems should have been sent months ago, the training would have been complete by now. Germany won’t even give their tanks. Useless.

As much as I agree with the idea of reparations in principle, it is not likely that Russia would ever agree to them, much less realistically ever pay them.

I would find it victory enough to get Russia to withdraw and restore the borders of Ukraine to pre-2014 and renounce all claims.

IIRC, American Lend-Lease starts on 1 October. Germany seems to be under the persistent illusion that we’ll all just go back to business as usual with the Russians as soon as this unpleasantness is finished (and who knows, maybe that’s what they really think).

Yeah, that would be victory, in my book as well. As for reparations, of course, the Russians won’t agree to it, so that’s why we move to seize that $300 billion in Russian cash we’ve frozen so far and hand it over to Ukraine and tell Putin to go fuck himself.

Interesting point about recent polling and how it fails to capture the expected increase of women voters due to Dobbs. This Marist poll shows a decline.

To be honest I do not see any wannabe Trump successor getting this level of attention by the media or anyone else, or at least without a lot of push-back or “here we go again” eye-rolling. Especially for petulant whining and floor-to-ceiling blatant lying.

The second generation US fascist will have to take a different tack.

re: #100 Nyet

And the West will probably again fail in regard to the weapons. As I wrote earlier, long-range missile systems should have been sent months ago, the training would have been complete by now. Germany won’t even give their tanks. Useless.

From Ukraine update: Ukraine doesn’t need ATACMS (for now):

There is an article of faith among certain circles that Ukraine “needs” ATACMS in order to finish off the Russians. ATACMS are long-range rockets fired by HIMARS/MLRS launchers. Here’s the difference between GMLRS, which is what Ukraine has been firing, and ATACMS:

NAMENUMBER/PODRANGEWARHEADCOST
GMLRS680km (48mi)200 lbs$160K
ATACMS1300km (190mi)500 lbs$1M

(There’s only so much I can do with formatting of tables in here, sorry)

The advantages of ATACMS are clear: hitting targets in Crimea, maybe some rail depots deep behind enemy lines in the Donbas. The disadvantages are that the payload is weak, the number of rockets is limited, they are vulnerable to Russian air defenses, and most important Russian targets are already in range of GMLRS.

Unlike what many think, ATACMS can’t bring down the Kerch bridge, not even close. Witness the dozens of GMLRS that have hit bridges around Kherson, and they still haven’t taken down most of them despite the bigger overall explosive punch. Russia tried to take down the bridge connecting Odesa with Moldova and a slice of Ukrainian territory to the south, lobbing several volleys of cruise missiles (with 1,100-pound warheads) at the bridge and its support structures. It failed, eventually giving up after multiple attacks.

A reasonably reasonable explanation about what “the pandemic is over” means.

The pandemic is over?

As a practical matter, however, the pandemic is finished in that it’s no longer materially affecting daily life. People are working, going to school, going out to theaters and restaurants. While masking still happens, it’s rarely mandatory anymore, and the majority decline to do it voluntarily. Those who are going to get vaccinated pretty much have, and those who aren’t, haven’t. Something approaching herd immunity has been accomplished, even if the U.S. and other nations didn’t quite get 100% of the way there.

In short, COVID is no longer a five-alarm crisis; it’s settled in as a lower-level fact of life that is going to be with us for a long time (and probably permanently). There’s no value in Joe Biden pretending otherwise, so he gave a truthful (and reasonably nuanced) answer. What else was he going to say?

He wants the focus on declassifying because it’s an easy “gotcha” against people who don’t know better. The legal problem he’s facing is that declassifying is irrelevant to the crimes being investigated. This is why the government has been emphasizing “documents with classified markings” - specifically avoiding saying “classified documents” - because that’s the part that’s important. It’s easy to go out there and shout about his magical powers of declassification, but in court, it’s a sideshow.

This is where the DOJ has him by the balls…the subpoena for returning docs specifically asked for docs with classified markings. As emptywheel pointed out…his claims of declassification are merely another news-cycle delay tactic.

Indian tech-bro Ramaswamy, playing the Conservative social calculus game, decides to weigh in on Apple and Disney.

A conservative investor, with backing from Peter Thiel and Invoice Ackman, has two new targets in his anti-E.S.G. marketing campaign. Yesterday, Vivek Ramaswamy despatched letters to the C.E.O.s of Apple and Disney, urging them to chorus from making political statements on behalf of their corporations, or hiring selections primarily based on race, intercourse or political opinions.

Never mind that much of their success is directly based on embracing changing worldwide sexual and gender identifications. Their customers have chosen to reward their corporate culture and behavior with massive profits. This guy wants them to give up on a winning business strategy? Some business guy. Despite his impressive academic history, some might even call him a mere hack who has chosen to sell out reason and real world evidence for cheap tribal recognition.

Of course when this guy gets what he wants and a fascist racist takeover happens here his wealth will either shield him or enable a quick escape internationally away from the eventual gulags and ovens.

What a Creep.

re: #157 Nyet

I will have to dig more at home (work requires me to work), but here’s an article from back in June about artillery shells:

The fog of war is thick, and propaganda muddies it further. The Ukrainian government isn’t immune. For example, the Ukrainian government is saying this:

Ukraine has now almost completely run out of ammunition for the Soviet-era weapons systems that were the mainstay of its arsenal, and the Eastern European countries that maintained the same systems have run out of surplus supplies to donate, Danylyuk said. Ukraine urgently needs to shift to longer-range and more sophisticated Western systems, but those have only recently been committed, and in insufficient quantities to match Russia’s immense firepower, he said.

But the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense is also saying this:

To this date, the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine has ensured the supply of 150 artillery platforms of 155 mm caliber to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The stockpiles of ammunition of this caliber are already 10% larger than the stockpiles of Soviet-type large-caliber shells that existed before 24 February 2022. Moreover, these new shells are more effective than their Soviet equivalents, and hence their consumption is lower.

dailykos.com

And yes, I know this is about artillery shells, and I’ll have to dig much more, but there is a disconnect between the military and civilian leadership on what is needed. This isn’t unique (their opponent is even worse at it), and it’s not like the US doesn’t suffer from it.

GOP had opportunity to impose immigration reform under Trump. Congress refused to do anything. Congress had opportunity to do major immigration reform under Obama, but GOP kneecapped that precisely because they wanted to keep immigration levels low.

White nationalist policies are the bedrock principle driving GOP immigration policy.

They don’t care that immigrants are seeking asylum, which is legal immigration. They want to deny those people any rights at all, which itself is a violation of human rights law.

Yeah, but to Fox News (and, even more, to its litter of RWNJ imitators), the “crisis” is a crisis because they say so: and because fentanyl can be characterized (with some degree of veracity, mind) as a super-deadly superdrug, it makes all the rhetoric just so much juicier. Especially as drug seizures at the border (“Feds seize X kilos of fentanyl at border: lethal dose for X million people!”) can be used to dump on their political enemies on a number of fronts, i.e.:
“Open borders!”
“Soft on drugs!”
“Hate the police!”
Etc. Makes little sense, of course, when examined: but since when does RW media care about making sense?

A couple were urban legends, but most of the others were parents doing it to their children’s candy.

This first one was the incident I was thinking of:

In 1959, a California dentist, William Shyne, gave candy-coated laxative pills to trick-or-treaters. He was charged with outrage of public decency and unlawful dispensing of drugs.

In 1964, a disgruntled Long Island, New York woman gave out packages of inedible objects to children who she believed were too old to be trick-or-treating. The packages contained items such as steel wool, dog biscuits, and ant buttons (which were clearly labeled with the word “poison”). Though nobody was injured, she was prosecuted and pleaded guilty to endangering children. The same year saw media reports of lye-filled bubble gum being handed out in Detroit and rat poison being given in Philadelphia, although these media reports were never substantiated to be actual events

Never heard of that second incident from Long Island. In any event, both were asshole things to do.

Chick-Fil-A only prevents me from eating on Sunday. And I’m mostly ok with that. If a company wants to shut down a day of the week, that’s fine; one of the Italian restaurants in town closes on Mondays. On the other hand, the car dealerships around here still close because of blue laws, not any particular altruistic reason.

BTW, did the TImes change the position of the grid on the web page? Today, there was a 4” or 5” border at the top of the page which pushed the bottom row of the grid off my 13” laptop screen when viewed with my normal magnification. In other worlds, the Illinois State Fair drew a record number of visitors this August. The weather (I am ashamed to say, since so many have suffered) was excellent, and changes made to scheduling worked together to pay off. When all receipts are in, it will be a record income year as well. And there was a butter cow.

We used to go and show a horse or two, but it was so much more fun to show outside such a huge venue and crowds.

From what I’m gathering, Trump’s attorney(s) basically told the 11th Circuit, “Look, our client is the former President, he should get to decide whether he gets investigated for a crime or not.” That might fly in Loose Cannon’s courtroom, but I don’t think the 11th Circuit is quite as corrupt.

“…The astute reader will note that Turley does not go into the legal definition of “inveigling” or “decoy,” words that are in the statute specifically to cover the use of false inducements to lure victims of kidnapping. The astute reader will also notice that Turley changed the cities involved: Places like New York and Chicago are major cities, well-known internationally, where immigrants might well expect services and community support upon their arrival. Some immigrants might indeed be “eager” to accept free passage to New York or Chicago, or even Boston.

Martha’s Vineyard, where these 48 people were actually sent, is a different place entirely. It’s a small, seasonal island resort community accessible only by plane or boat. There’s no reasonable expectation that immigrants will find an extensive community of immigrants there, if these people had even heard of the place before they landed in it.”

“…I am sure about what Turley is trying to do, and that is to defend the despicable without having the courage to own it. You can see that too in his double-speak. “There are good-faith reasons to oppose these trips as a political stunt. That does not make them federal crimes,” he writes. “The effort to bend and twist the criminal code for such political purposes is a dangerous trend. You can denounce these transfers without trying to criminalize such policies.”

You’ll note he says that one can denounce these acts, without actually denouncing them himself. This has become standard operating procedure for a legion of legal academics who want to stay on the good side of Trumpworld, without owning all of the gross and fascist acts its luminaries commit. These people aren’t teaching students how to do legal analysis. They’re teaching kids how to be intellectual cowards by obfuscating the law instead of wrestling with it. “

The argument, as near as I can tell it, is: “Trump declassified these and declared them his personal records for the purposes of the Presidential Records Act, and the PRA doesn’t have any criminal penalties, so therefore he can’t be investigated for a crime.” Which, in your analogy, seems to work out to something like somebody stealing your car and then saying that the handwritten note they stuffed in the glove box saying “This car is now mine” gives them lawful possession of it.

It would not have made a difference had the appointment been sooner. I have mentally been through the ‘what could I have done differently’ and ended up with, I could have been a different, improved person, that wouldn’t have been enough, he would have had to do that also. So in a different world, things would have been different. Duh. Sniff.
