Regarding TS Ian: The GFS model has been trending more westward for landfall, having Ian hit in the western panhandle of Florida. NHC has updated their guidance westward also, but because they like the European model for these things they still have Ian hitting FL north of Tampa.

It will likely be a strong storm because there has yet to be a large storm this season in the GoM so the surface waters are quite warm.

Come Tuesday I expect Ian to dominate the news cycle.

A Palestinian Farmer Planting an Olive Tree Accidentally Unearthed an Exquisite Byzantine Tile Floor
The mosaic may be just the first in a whole series of discoveries at the site.

Go look at the pictures. “Exquisite” isn’t the word for it, the floor is in an incredibly well-preserved state for something that’s probably ~1400 years old or more.

Question about political donations:
When I contribute to a candidate, the online system allows me to make automatic future payments of a smaller amount on a regular basis. If I do elect that option, will that spare me the constant barrage of texts soliciting future funds for that candidate?

It’s been my experience that the systems that set up automatic contributions and those that run the candidates’ email lists are separate, and that the only way to avoid the tsunami of fundraising bleats is to “unsubscribe”. Though contributions, unsurprisingly, will still continue.

Never use a cell phone for any commercial or political activity. That establishes what the law calls a “pecuniary relationship” with the other party, giving them permission to send you as much as they want as often as they want, and they are not required to stop.

In cases where someone asks you for your cell phone number to complete a transaction, you tell them what I do: “I don’t have a cell phone.” The law permits you to opt-out of unsolicited calls on a landline, but if you give out your cell phone number, you have no such protection.

Any Website which does not allow you to opt out of the cell phone box is harvesting cell phone numbers. They are not interested in your privacy.

Any politician which does not publish a mailing address in mailers or on a Website is not interested in receiving donations from anyone without Internet, so they are not a serious candidate.

For my part, I’m astonished the engine didn’t aspirate a bunch of water and lock up tighter than a drum. I had to re-watch it a couple of times looking for the air intake, never did find it.

The LGF Pages posting app is now tested and debugged in PHP 8 on the new server.

If you’ve been posting Pages and getting prompted to log in every time, PHP 8 fixes this problem by allowing cookies to have the “Samesite” attribute. This lets your login cookie work across sites, so that using the bookmarklet to open the Pages posting app now can see that you’re already logged in.

The new server’s running the latest version of MariaDB, the open source successor to MySQL, and it’s much faster than our current DB server.

Next time:

1) Don’t overload the top with so many rednecks that the whole vehicle becomes unstable.

2) Have restraint harnesses for each passenger.

3) Know how fuckin’ deep the hole is before you drive into it, ya inbred, trump-lovin’, white trash, hillbilly.

um… if they’d had restraint harnesses, wouldn’t they have drowned?

Open a second Gmail account - call it Hecuba_politicaldonations@gmail or something like that. Unsubscribe from all mailing lists at your normal account and use that email for new donations. All the spam will collect there and you can go in and flush the whole inbox periodically.

In case no one’s posted it, you don’t need a second gmail account

Add a + to the end of your username, before the “@” to create infinite variations of your Gmail address.
username+junkmail@gmail.com

you can then filter messages containing “username+junkmail” into your junk or trash folder

This trick isn’t just useful for filtering junk — it allows you to create an infinite variety of email addresses for all your various roles in life while maintaining a single login for all of them

I thought these folks were the ones that ridicule “identifying as” whatever because it’s something you aren’t. Therefore a Trumper identifying as smart, isn’t. Truth in advertising and all, but why advertise that you’re an idiot?
And, in advertising as a Trumper, saying you’re an idiot is redundant.

An Indian site includes the following passage:

Most of the China experts have highlighted that there are no signs of the coup beyond commentary on social media, particularly in Indian circles.

China expert Aadil Brar noted that Xi is likely in quarantine after returning from the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit, which would explain his absence from public affairs at the moment.

Brar also shared flight data showing there is no disruption of flights. He further shared visuals of public briefings by senior Chinese officials, suggesting that government is functioning normally.
