Aziz Poonawalla, a blogger who seems to be respected by many but whose weblog I never read after a very offensive post following a suicide bombing in Israel (a post I couldn’t find there when I searched for it later), has gone way over the line by promoting a disgusting and preposterous accusation that Israel is developing “genetic bioweapons” that will target Arabs while (somehow) leaving Jews unaffected. He’s calling it a “Weapon of Mass Genocide.” Joe Katzman has a good post about this claim—a claim that’s nothing more than a modern variation on ancient anti-Semitic blood libels. And Poonawalla is refusing to back down, even after many have pointed out the scientific absurdity of this accusation; instead he’s crying about a “lynch atmosphere.”

UPDATE: Here is the offensive post I mentioned above. Aziz emailed the link to me, apparently thinking that it will somehow vindicate him; but on rereading it I am just as offended as the first time. A suicide bomber, a mass murderer following the jihad ideology espoused by Hamas, slaughters children on a bus and Aziz responds with “Jihad will always succeed. Harabah will always fail.” Then he follows with “Mohammed al-Dura will welcome the innocents to heaven, as the cohort of the victims of injustice grows,” invoking the name of the Palestinian Arab child who has become the poster boy for anti-Jewish propaganda the world over. At the very least, these remarks are incredibly tasteless.

UPDATE: By the way, if you’re considering emailing Aziz Poonawalla, please don’t. Post your comments here instead. He’s already complained that he’s receiving “threats,” so please refrain from feeding what Joe Katzman calls the Eternal Idiotarian Martyr Complex.
