Egyptians Seethe, Make Excuses for Tyrants

Egypt’s Al Ahram publishes an article about the seething Arab street, outraged at the death of Saddam Hussein’s sons, and accompanied by a lovely family portrait of the sadistic mass murderers at home in better days: Disgusting display. There are lots of quotes from Egyptians filled with rage, but here’s the most telling:

“It’s horrifying — inhumane,” Helmi said. Her stance is typical of many: “Whatever crime they committed, is beside the point. Killing them was a crime, a murder, it was sacrilegious because the body belongs to God not to people.”

The phrase “double standard” is inadequate to describe the hypocrisy of the Arab position on the display of the bodies of Uday and Qusay, when their own media pumps out a nonstop barrage of images of dead and mutilated bodies, far worse than any “disgusting display” of the bodies of these two mass murdering swine. Before their bodies were shown, the Arab world was shouting that they didn’t believe the US had really killed them. After the bodies were shown the Arab world shouts, “How dare you show the bodies? It’s un-Islamic!”

The United States gives more than $2 billion a year in foreign aid to Egypt.
