Hurl a Rock for Peace

Sun, Aug 17, 2003 at 5:38:26 pm PDT

In Australia, here’s a web site called “Virtual Palestine” where you can write a message of hate on a rock, and then virtually “throw” it—just like a Palestinian. Of course, in this glamorous Flash version of an inherently violent act, the rock vanishes into the sunset and lovely stars appear—unlike the reality, where if that rock connected with its intended target, an Israeli would be rushed to the hospital: VirtualPalestine.

Oh, but don’t get them wrong; they’re not trying to glorify violence. A disclaimer on the page reads:

The "Stonethrower" animation is an attempt to redefine what has become a negative media image of Palestinians into a positive icon. No offence is intended.

See? Just some nice clean Islamic fun.

And you thought there were no Palestinian rock-stars.

The "Stonethrower" animation is an attempt to redefine up as down, in as out, and white as black.

I had drawn attention to this virulent site on an earlier thread.

And guess what ? It is funded by the Aussie taxpayer via an Arts funding organisation.

G-d forbid the Pali's try something positive.

5 Ken Davidson  Sun, Aug 17, 2003 3:45:41pm

Maybe these guys could also redefine what has become a negative media image of the Nazis into a positive icon. I suggest selling Third Reich memorabilia in Hong Kong stores, or hanging cool pictures of Adolf and the boys in karaoke bars.

Oh, damn...never mind. Someone already thought of that.

IF YOU HAVE A TEETH-GRINDING PROBLEM, STOP HERE

I believe that you can trust a muslim as far as you can spit against a hurricane. Deceit is the cardinal virtue to a muslim. Read some of the anti-Amin (the recently flushed piece of muslim shit) comments from the top of the attached post, and then scroll to the whitewashers on the bottom page. It doesn't matter that that idiot slaughtered his countrymen, including a Roman Catholic Bishop, the mad mullahs believe he should be judged by the number of carpet humpers that he put through Uganda's colleges.

Well in reality the intended target would be safely ensconsed in a Merkava.

You people complain when innocent Israelis are killed in a suicide bomb, Good!

When a Palestinian throws rocks how much of a threat is he to Isreal?

Answer: None

8 quark2  Sun, Aug 17, 2003 3:53:11pm

@7

GAZE

Personally I think some real rocks ought to be thrown at whoever thought this idea up.
That would draw some real blood.

Jack off mofos

I got smacked in the mouth by a Pali rock thrower at almost point blank.

The fucker took a good number of my teeth and almost killed me.

11 Yair  Sun, Aug 17, 2003 3:56:48pm

Yeah. Typical ISM-style nonsense. Violence is OK as long as it's for "peace", in which case you are not a warmonger.

______
Wait, some moron just wrote:

When a Palestinian throws rocks how much of a threat is he to Isreal?

When an IDF soldier gets hit in the head by a rock and winds up comatose, at is just as much a threat to Israel as blowing up a car full of terrorists is for the Palestinians.

Well in reality the intended target would be safely ensconsed in a Merkava.

Ensconced in a Merkhava is preferable perhaps to the large number of infantry needed to shoot tear gas at stone throwing juveniles and to man checkpoints. Ideally, we should just carpet bomb from the air and be done with it, but Israeli's are too nice to do that. We should learn from the Russians and Americans.

12 Yair  Sun, Aug 17, 2003 3:59:27pm

Moron Leesider,

Go stand in a hail of rocks and see how much you like it. The most efficient way to do this is to move to an Islamic country and publicly denounce the Koran.

Let us know how it goes.

13 Yair  Sun, Aug 17, 2003 4:01:24pm

Charles, LGF is confirming my suspicion that the world has gone insane more and more. Perhaps I should stop reading it.

#7 Blindsider: Stoning is a form of capital punishment that goes on today in many muslim countries. Think first.....people who live in glass houses should not post.

15 A Jackson  Sun, Aug 17, 2003 4:03:01pm

What a clever idea! The site should take it much farther - let users virtually blow up women and children with a virtual suicide bombs. Virtually murder other virtual Palis for virtual collaboration. And how about the ever popular virtual honor killing of virtual female members of your virtual family. I bet there's a huge market for this! They could sell a stand-alone version as SimTerrorist, and then follow-up with SimLeftistBuffoon, SimIdiotarian, SimDemocaticAsshat, and finally SimFisk.

16 Bob G.  Sun, Aug 17, 2003 4:04:06pm

#7, you're right, rocks never hurt anyone. PLEASE throw one at the nearest police officer.

17 Yair  Sun, Aug 17, 2003 4:04:11pm
The fucker took a good number of my teeth and almost killed me.

AG,

I hope you almost killed a few of them as personal thank you.

18 rizzo  Sun, Aug 17, 2003 4:08:37pm

7 leesider

When a Palestinian throws rocks how much of a threat is he to Isreal?

The children throwing the rocks are not the problem. Its the adults directing the children to throw the rocks for the European(ie worldwide) cameras that contribute to the perception of Israelis aggression. Unfortunately, the Pali's don't want a two state solution. So, there is a problem brought on by the PALI'S.

Congratulations. You are the first to receive the memo:

MEMO

This is an automated reply from the Bullshit Detector at Little Green Footballs.
Your recent post contained troll-like characteristics which resembles the type of message sent by spoiled ISM members on summer holiday, college students who have recently inhaled Noam Chomsky’s foul rantings, Adam Shapiro wannabes, Nazi sympathizers, or genuine [bigoted word]s.

In order to prevent another thread being hijacked, and to send your message to the appropriate department for response (FOAD, GAZE, Go Away Gordon, or The Bus To Rachel Corrie’s Tomb Is Leaving - Be Sure You’re Under It), kindly reply to the following questions:

1. Are you aware that the Disputed Territories never belonged to the “Palestinians” and only came into Israeli possession as a result of the 1967 six day war in which Egypt, Jordan, Syria, and Lebanon all massed forces at Israel’s border in order to “push the Jews into the sea”. The Arabs lost and Israel took control of the land. Do you agree that if the [bigoted word]s don’t want to lose territory to Israel, then they shouldn’t start wars? Do you agree that there is justice that Israel, who as far back as 1948 has always sought peace with her far larger neighbors, should live in prosperity - making the desert bloom - while the residents of 19 adjacent Arab countries who are blessed with far more land as well as oil wealth live in their own feces?

2. Did you know that the “Palestinians” could have had their own country as far back as 1948 had they accepted the UN sponsored partition plan which gave Israel AND the Palestinians a countries of their own on land which Jews had lived on for thousands of years before Mohammed ever had a wet dream about virgins? The Arabs rejected the UN offer and went to war with the infant Israeli nation. The Arabs lost and have been whining about it ever since. Do you agree this is like a murderer who kills his parents and asks for special treatment since he is now an orphan?

3. Can you tell us ANY Arab country which offers Jews the right to be citizens, vote, own property, businesses, be a part of the government or have ANY of the rights which Israeli Arabs enjoy? Any Arab country which gives those rights to Christians? How about to other Arabs? Wouldn’t you just LOVE to be a citizen of Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Iran, or Syria?

4. Since as many Jews (approximately 850,000) were kicked out of Arab countries as were Arabs who left present day Israel (despite being literally begged to stay), why should Arabs be permitted to return to Israel if Jews aren’t allowed to set foot in Arab countries? Can you explain why Arabs can worship freely in Israel but Jews would certainly be hung from street lamps after having their intestines devoured by an Arab mob if they so much as entered an Arab country?

5. Israel resettled and absorbed all of the Jews from Arab countries who wished to become Israelis. Why haven’t any Arab countries offered to resettle Arabs who were displaced from Israel, leaving them to rot for 60 years in squalid refugee camps? And why are those refugee camps still there? Could it be that the billions of dollars that the UNWRA has sent there goes to terrorist groups like Hamas, Islamic Jihad, El Aqsa Martyrs Brigade, or Hezbollah? How did Yassir Arafat achieve his $300 million in wealth? Why aren’t these funds distributed for humanitarian use?

6. Did you know that the Arabs in the disputed territories (conquered by Israel in the 1967 war which was started by Arabs) and who are not Israelis already have two countries right now? And that they are called Egypt and Jordan?

7. If your complaint is about the security fence which Israel is finally building in the Disputed Territories, are you aware that it is built solely to keep the “brave” Arab terrorists out so that they can no longer self detonate on busses, in dining halls or pizzerias and kill Jewish grandmothers and schoolchildren? Why are the Arabs so brave when they target unarmed civilians but even when they outnumber their opponents they get their sandy asses kicked all the way to Mecca when they are faced with Jewish soldiers? Why do Arab soldiers make the French look like super heroes?

8. Please explain why you are so concerned about Arabs, who possess 99% of the land in this region and are in control of the world’s greatest natural resource, which literally flows out of the ground? Can’t their brother muslims offer some of the surplus land and nature’s riches to the “Palestinians”? Or is it true that Arabs are willing to die right down to the last “Palestinian”?

9. Why do you not exhibit the same level of concern for say, people in Saudi Arabia who are beheaded, subject to amputation, stoning, honor killing etc.? What about women who are denied any semblance of basic civil rights, including the right not to be treated as property for the entertainment and abuse of her father, brothers, or husbands? What about the Muslims in Sudan and Egypt who are still enslaved, or the women there whose genitalia are barbarically cut off? How about the oppression of Shiites by Sunnis, the gassing of the Kurds by Iraq, or the massacre of “Palestinians” by Jordan (Black September)? Why doesn’t this concern you?

10. Did you ever stop to wonder how much better off everyone in the region would be if Arabs stopped trying to kill Jews and destroy Israel? What would happen if the Israelis gave up their weapons and disarmed? Would they live to see the next day? But what would happen if the Arabs completely disarmed? You know the answer: They would all be AT PEACE! And if there is no war to rile them up, the Arabs would be forced to look at their own repressive, pre-medieval societies. Why would they want to do that when there are Jews to kill?

11. Have you heard “People who define themselves primarily by what they hate, rather than who they love, are doomed to failure and misery”? Can you see the parallels to the Arabs, who are blessed with land and oil, but still gladly train their children to kill themselves in order to kill Jews? Have you heard Golda Meir’s words to the effect of “There will be peace when the Arabs love their children more than they hate ours”? Why do the Arabs hate so much?

Palestinian parents that let their children out in the streets to throw rocks, bottles, and firebombbs at Israeli civilians or soldiers should be put in jail and charged with child endangermant in my opinion.

When I was injured by a stone-throwing 'youth' in his early twenties, I actually saw it coming. There were ten of, I was radio man for my officer so I happened to be at the front along side him.

There were appx. 800-1000 'youths' intifadaing their respective day away throwing molotov cocktails, rocks, using fucking giant slingshots to fire 5-foot metal spears at us.

Well, our officer decided to take the 'go-up-the-gut manuever' after we were fired upon.

We started a charge up the main street in Gaza City, through the market and I was first on the right column.

I saw some guy about 50 feet ahead of me closing fast.

I didn't really didn't think about much. Not too many people have the balls to get in the way of ten charging soldiers.

Well, this guy did.

He pulled a rock out and nailed me right in the mouth.

It hit me so hard, I remember 'hearing' it hit me. And that's about it.

I woke up in Barzilai Hospital in Ashkelon with wires in my mouth and no fucking teeth.

Doctor said I was lucky.

I am lucky.

You act as though the teeth we're talking about were removed at your neighborhood dentists office under anesthesia.

Someone was trying to kill him. He didn't let them. Where is the moral issue in that? Do you blame the people who survived 9/11 for the deaths of the terrorist hijackers?

Perhaps you should experience the feeling of being on a front line with people hurling deadly objects and shouting hate and threats at you - then you might have a bit of a clue.

Why the hell are IDF soldiers put in the path of pali stone throwers? This is the kernal of the issue!

Get the troops out to defensible borders.
Yes!, build a wall around the west bank and gaza, and let the palis stew in their own juice.

In 48, 67, and 73 Israel was well able to stand against soviet backed agressors!

Now they can stand easily against weakened arab satrapsies, they should have nothing to fear from an insignificant arab state on the west bank and gaza.

Get real people!

Why the hell are IDF soldiers put in the path of pali stone throwers? This is the kernal of the issue!

The wall was not built then. It isn't finished now. What would happen if the Paleo "youths" encountered no resistence and attacked soldiers defending the "border". Could soldiers shoot then? According to your logic, yes. Actually, according to your logic, paleos storming the border should be met solely by Merkhava tank fire.

Now they can stand easily against weakened arab satrapsies, they should have nothing to fear from an insignificant arab state on the west bank and gaza.

When the fence is finished, there will indeed be less to fear. But don't expect anything other than bombing from the air in response to Qassam rocket attacks.

Also, if they do form a state, does Israel just sit back and watch as they arm at their leisure?

76 Ol' Southern Boy  Sun, Aug 17, 2003 5:41:05pm

Leesider -- you asked "Perhaps you could tell me the moral equivalency between a human's teeth and a human's life."

According to this logic, if a badass pulls a knife on a cop in downtown L.A., the cop's only logical recourse is to use a knife himself, but not his gun?

Sorry, asshat, that's not how the game of life is played. If you employ any level of force against me, I have the right to use whatever level of force I deem necessry to terminate the fight.

"Gee, officer, I felt threatened. He had a knife."

"Sounds reasonable to me. Nice grouping, by the way..."

Well if you build the wall high and long they sure as hell are not gonna get into Israel!

We are there because Jordan and Egypt don't want their land back.

Not to put too fine a point on it fuck egypt and jordan, are they worth one Israeli life?

We are there to make sure that another Holocaust does not befall the Jewish people.

How the hell will that happen with a goddamn big wall around your territories?

Also, you don't know a thing about Karl Popper besides knowing the man's name.

The "Stonethrower" animation is an attempt to redefine what has become a negative media image of Palestinians into a positive icon.

There is so much leftie stupidity crystalised into this statement.

This is the kind of thing you could only write after a three-year liberal arts indoctrination program (sorry, I mean arts degree) that convinced you that there is no reality other than what is imparted via cultural or media constructs, everything is subjective, and there is no such thing right or wrong, only competing "worldviews" and "cultural norms".

Of course, if suicide bombers or rockthrowers have a bad rap it must be because the evil rightwing media are "demonising them" and anyone who has a problem with them is just a sheep who has been programmed by establishment media propaganda, therefore it is the solemn duty (funded by hapless Australian taxpayers such as myself) of every committed leftwing activist to right these "negative media images" with this kind of crap.

Leesider,

I agree with you about the wall. And you seem to have Israel's security in mind. But your questions are somewhat naive.

1. The palestinians aren't satisfied with the state they would have within the boundaries of the fence. Many, most want all of Israel.

2. You haven't answered my question as to soldiers' actions in response to a massive rock-throwing attack against a border position.

3. You haven't answered my question as to whether the Palestinian state should be able to arm itself or not, and what strategies you have in mind to prevent that.

Even i'd like to know what objectively is pro-semetic abaout walling off the pals?

If it saves Jewish and other lives of Israel citizens, it is pro-semitic.

What does a proportional response get you, especially when the intent of the original attacker is to do as much damage as possible, including trying to kill the intended target?

Memo to stonethrowers: stop attacking people with Uzis and M-16s.

As to your unwavering support for the Security Fence (which you've been calling a wall) - it has not exactly been the easiest issue to get through the Israeli Knesset.

Remember up until 2000, the last Labor government was trying to give away all of Gaza and 95+% of the West Bank.

It wasn't for a while into the Second Intifidah that the Israeli public felt the fence was necessary. A prime minister can't just snap his/her fingers and spend billions of dollars on something they know will be viewed internationally and domestically as incredibly controversial.

There are internal and external politics at play - again, remember - Israel's a democracy and there are other services and issues that the government needs to account for. Thank god they are finally building the fence now - but it is not really a "no-brainer" political issue.

After much trouble, I was allowed to enter, and my heart fell the second I walked out of the airport. Tears ran down my cheeks, as I smelt the air of Palestine. You said "Hi! :-)" to Leesider just as you were about to bitch her out. This is disengenuous, since you do it to everyone. Do want people to like you? I don't care personally. If someone likes me because I express something intelligently or write a cool piece of code or pay for a drink or two and laugh it up, fine.

You are still an annoying dumbass, regardless of whether you only begin you posts with "Hi! :-)" when you "greet" a new person.

Tiburon, I am willing to drop this little tiff. Just don't talk to me anymore. You creep me out. Got it?

WTF are you talking about Tiburon? Please elaborate.

142 HotBrownSandwich  Sun, Aug 17, 2003 7:09:25pm

#7 Dee Snider

You inspired a classic post earlier, with this statement:

When a Palestinian throws rocks how much of a threat is he to Isreal?

Your answer was none. Your post in #94:

Let the palis make their own mistakes.

...suggests Palestinians make "mistakes" when they throw potentially deadly projectiles at Israeli soldiers.

But beyond some crazy trail of tears senario i don't know what will work.

Do you agree that a good place to start is preventing the deaths of Israelis?

143 Tiburon  Sun, Aug 17, 2003 7:10:10pm

#134 Yair
Fine by me, ...as I've said before, it's a big Sandbox.

This sort of ad hominem attack on me, for a little quirk of mine (trying to respect the fact that there are some posters who have being doing this LGF thing for MANY MOONS, unlike me...) - trying to politely introduce myself to the community...

Doesn't impress me.

I never prelude responses to trolls (who I certainly gave Leesider the credit of NOT being - whatever the core of her 'moral relativistic' world view) with a smile, fella...

You play out your life out here on LGF, ok? Leave it to 'others' to make the decisions about what you'll 'comment on'....

K?

And no, wouldn't want to interfere with your digestion, Yair - so just scroll down, K?

144 Yair  Sun, Aug 17, 2003 7:13:14pm
You're getting way too personal with way too many posters here.

I disagree. I don't think I'm an exception when I get annoyed at a dumbass and say so clearly. Happens all the time.

I have mistakenly gotten annoyed with

You
Evariste

and apologized.

I have not mistakenly gotten annoyed with

Ben Noah
Tiburon
Ralph

Hardly unusual for LGF.

145 HotBrownSandwich  Sun, Aug 17, 2003 7:16:00pm

....I mean, because the "mistakes" you refer to result in dead Jews. Don't you think preventing these "mistakes" with overwhelming force would be an instructive approach to the aggressor?

Oh but you already answered that, when you turned 180 degrees from your original post. I'd say you were the intellectual equivalent of cheez whiz but that would be insulting to cheez whiz.

I just want u guys to know that just becuse one is to the left of Ann Coulter, one isn't anti-semetic or anti-Israeli

Have you taken your Ritalin?

Since you are asking serious questions.

What other way to take the reality of a "Fence" that basically follow what has been referred to by some Israeli Leaders who are admired by many on this LGF as HEROES, as the Auswitsch Line. (Green Line)????

You took my contextual expression (slightly) wrong. Nonetheless, and in full contrition, I apologize. You know me, zulu - I both love and fear you....

With all due respect I was bringing this up more to contrast the "early" Leesider with the "late" leesider. I agree though, I will not defend you any more. You can handle yourself and it is insulting for anyone else to do so. I don't expect anyone to do this for me, so I will not do it for anyone else.

Point taken.

As to "which LGF'ers", subscribe to this view, I'll depend on the usual 'role call"...

Some of them, their ideas, I admire deeply, btw....but in this thing, I see them 'tricked' into appeasement...

Doesn't make me admire them less, outside this topic...

Lewisinoz:

"Please do not think that her views in any way represent those of mainstream Australia. "

An excellent point, and we certainly don't generalize from this, any more than we would generalize from Michael Moore's deplorable status as an actual American.
I think it's significant that none of our sizable Australian contingent have chosen to take offense at my post #51, which was my admittedly over-the-top attempt to mock Virtual Palestine's incredibly lame "no offence" dislaimer. Maybe nobody from Oz noticed, but I prefer to think that they just get it, and that this is an example of the highly developed sense of irony and himor that is such a celebrated part of the Australian national character.

Oh, yah...

#154 rayra -

#156 Thufir Hawat

um... Hi! :-)

Did you post anything between #51 and now that I missed? It was cute, but not earthshaking by LGF humour standards, IMHO....

To be a troll, you have to actually say something offensive, not 'humourous/nonesensical'....

Or ya know, become sharp-toothy ..... :-)

For what it's worth, My Mother, who was there at the heart of it way pre-State - really admired the Aussie attitudes to the Jews, way more than the Brits attitudes (though she in the end, married one...)

Aussie's are good folk. They 'stood up' also, recently, when many other 'first worlders' didn't.

And hey, I certainly took no offence from the rock thing....I love those trajectory games. I play them with 9 mm and sabots from my 12 gauges.

Heh. ;-)

#168 Bored George

Now, what about the real sticks and stones which were the point of Charles' post?

Well, Israel's reaction to the first 'Intifada' was wrong. The mistake was sending the army for riot control. Soldiers are not trained nor equipped for this kind of action. The right reaction would have been to seal the 'green line' and send cops with water cannons. Spraying the Arabs with ice-cold seawater and stopping them from crossing the 'green line' would have guaranteed a few thousand deaths from pneumonia, and stopped the whole movement... Instead, Israel sent the IDF to try and save the Arabs from their own stupidity, and gave them endless propaganda opportunities, both internally and with the 'international community'.

We are still paying the price for that stupid mistake.

174 Tiburon  Sun, Aug 17, 2003 8:26:48pm

Hi! :-)

We can't think like that. If there is any reason for the struggle, it goes back to HaShem's Plan for the World...The temporary 'rulers' of our Land, the "Hellenists" who are now in control....they will fade, and I for one believe we won't have to go "round the wheel" again to see, in Reality, the answers.

And the Truth. (The Israeli Card = The Truth)

193 Yair  Sun, Aug 17, 2003 8:45:49pm

Well, if we're gonna play this game, let me say that guys like Tiburon and Mr. Pol are the downfall of Israel. Except the aren't, because they'll be arrested on the way to assassinating Sharon. Freaks. Time to tip off the Shin Bet.

Now, sir...you overstep. Actually, even mentioning which unit you work in, before retirement, is a no-no.

Are you trolling to see who will 'counter-threaten' with emails of their own? Like me?

Unfortunately, Yair - I'd have to sense a 'serious threat', and you just don't count.

Sorry

Get more 'balanced, anti-religious, Shinui-supporting, and settler-hating' in your positions. (oh, and publish your positions IRL, btw.)..Then, after time, and we see what comes down, you stand by your beliefs and I''ll stand by mine. You can decide then, if you want to live in Israel, or, ya know - "
"abroad"

216 Yair  Sun, Aug 17, 2003 9:15:19pm
BTW, am I supposed to be impressed because one of your ancestors parted the Red Sea? If you want to serve, you can.

How long have you lived in Israel dickbutt? Did your grandparents start a moshav in 1950? Or are you one of the Brooklyn wingnuts Israel can so do without?

217 Yair  Sun, Aug 17, 2003 9:19:18pm

That's right Tiburmoron,

I hope Shinui succeeds and let's the smaller settlements fight the palestinians on their own.

What, with hill youths attacking IDF soldiers, good kids who listen to Mr. Pol. Bah. I'm tired of all my relatives defending dingus settlements in Gaza. Let those pussies fend for themselves. Same goes with the west bank. Big settlements, put them behind the fence. Others, rot.

Get it?

BTW, Most Israelis agree with me.

BROOKLYN WINGNUTS!!!! :-o

Are you mad, boy? Go to sleep, go back to History class, go away, my man....You are talking like Paulin!

Who the F .. ARE YOU? Are you the REAL YAIR??

You have talked such sense, many places and times online on LGF. Is this the REAL YOU!???

I'm flabbergasted.

With all due respect, I happen to know both Tiburon and Mr Pol and you really shouldn't be speaking to either one of them like that. I do not mean this in a threatening way, but they are both very decent men. I hope you don't treat people like this in real life.

220 Tiburon  Sun, Aug 17, 2003 9:22:39pm

You'll be entitled to talk about Israel's security and democracy after serving in the Army, or when you live there. Right now, you're just another Gordon-like asshole.

I'm waiting for the embassy to call me and share the joke about your email to Shin Beth, boy. I'll let you know.

Just what the hell does that mean?

You really are tiresome. Posters here have repeatedly attempted to point out your poor rhetorical style, your ignorance of the issues, your inabillity to carry on a halfway civil dialog, your crass and lame insults and you ignore them all and carry on about your merry way.

Here's a clue - you don't even have to buy it - make your point, back it up with facts. Insulting people who disagree with you doesn't win the argument or bolster your stature. Does that make any sense to you at all? You aren't winning any friends or influencing people here.

Makes a difference, ya see, wouldn't ya agree?

And lest we forget, .... according to the RoP and the PA and pretty well any source diligent cross-cybersphere investigation can glean, by the deft and talented folk here at LGF...."Settlements", means "East Jerusalem" of infamy (didn't exist before 1920-odd - built pretty well by Jews, captured by Jordan in '48....recaptured by IDF in '67)

including the Kotel and the "haram al sharif"...

On the right hand side of the website "Virtual Palestine", there is a word in Arabic and the translation is written as "release." True, irmi means "release", but usually in the sense of "shoot!" or "fire" (i.e. relaesing a bullet, arrow etc).

249 Photios  Sun, Aug 17, 2003 11:11:52pm

Ok, so I'm late again and expect no one to read this, especially Leesider, to whom it is addressed (is the grammar awkward enough yet?).

Leesider,

I must say that it is refreshing to see someone like you acknowledge that Israel has not only the right to exist but to defend herself. Although you are doubtless to the left of me, I will read you seriously (despite your initial post in this thread). I expect that we will agree on little else, but that is enough for the beginning of a conversation.

zulubaby,

My schedule has firmed up somewhat. I am still looking forward to sharing a beer with you and perhaps other SOCAL LGFers in the spring (Charles, mommydoc, and PDM, this means you). It is out of a desire not to pester you that I have avoided using your email. May I do so? Email or call me if you would.

I will be going away again soon.

"We have no indication that this was a terrorist attack", my ass.

An Israeli police sapper removes a traditional Arab Kaffia covering a suspected bag left behind on a street in West Jerusalem. One woman was killed and at least three people were injured in a suspected bomb blast near a popular restaurant in Tel Aviv. Israel is on high alert for possible militant Palestinian attacks, following two suicide bombings close to Tel Aviv and at the entrance to the West Bank settlement of Ariel.

As a terrorism survivor, I know what you go through, every day.

I wasn't even injured in the attack, not physically, although tonight I will once again stay up to five a.m. -- that's when the bomb went off in my college dorm some 35 years ago. It never leaves you. You smell the bomb, the fire, every day for the rest of your life.

And no one "gets it" -- not even your family. Liberals say, "You gotta understand... " Fuck 'em. Conservatives say, "Snap out of it, weakling!" Fuck 'em too.

263 David  Mon, Aug 18, 2003 2:39:56am

I love Nekama's memo.

Just over 10 years ago, Reagan said:

"in the West today, we see a free world that has achieved a level of prosperity and well-being unprecedented in all human history. In the Communist world, we see failure, technological backwardness, declining standards of health, even want of the most basic kind--too little food. Even today, the Soviet Union still cannot feed itself. After these four decades, then, there stands before the entire world one great and inescapable conclusion: Freedom leads to prosperity. Freedom replaces the ancient hatreds among the nations with comity and peace. Freedom is the victor."

Replace "Communist" with "Islamic" and "Soviet Union" with "Muslim World", and one realises plus ca change...

We must, and we can, do something about it.

264 David  Mon, Aug 18, 2003 2:45:46am

One should probably replace "the West" with "the Anglosphere".

265 Spunky  Mon, Aug 18, 2003 4:11:48am

In 1985, George Clinton (a.k.a. the only Clinton worth a f*ck), on the album "Some of My Best Jokes Are Friends" wrote:

The World is made up of equal proportions of bull's eyes and bullsh*t

I think the world has skewed a lot more away from bull's eyes since that time.

I mean, come on... unless you're swathed in Kevlar body armor, throwing rocks at people with guns is STOOPID!!!!!

It's simple as that. If you throw rocks at soldiers, you are stupid, you are an idiot, you should be chlorinated from the human gene pool with dispatch and extreme prejudice.

But No-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o to the left, demonstrating extreme stupidity only means you feel passionately about your cause. Maybe it does, but it still means you are an idiot. Passion does not equal righteousness, in fact, passion often leads to stupidity.

Feelings over common sense, culminating in Government-funded viagra for AIDS victims, is the paradigm of contemporary leftist thought.

Yeah, I'm cold, I know. But I just think the world would be a lot better off if we could just get rid of the crazy and stupid people, or failing that, at least isolate them from power.

# 6 Camel Prophet:

Loved this quote from the link:

He appealed to Muslims to ignore allegations against Amin and advised them to appreciate the fact that everybody had his weaknesses.

Yeah, Amin had his weaknesses, a weakness for human blood. Maybe Idi was a true follower of the Cult of Death by his drinking the blood and eating the organs of his victims?

If the RoP cares, how will they ever elevate themselves in "Orientalist" eyes if they keep on making apologies for murdreous tyrants like Amin and Hussein, and his evil spawn, Qusay and Uday? From what I continue to read from the pens of these Islamic jerks, and hear from the mouths of these Islamic idiots, murder, whether of one's own citizens or not, is acceptable in Islam by the mere fact that it is not condemned.

267 JohninLondon  Mon, Aug 18, 2003 4:46:05am

This thread started with the ridiculous "VirtualPalestine" site. As an Aussie, albeit in London, I am appalled that taxpayer money should be going into this type of moonbat activity. (And what a CRAP website design !)

I read the VirtualPalestine site as being just another example of left-wing loonies feeling they have to side with the Palis. And then try to gouge some money off the taxpayer to support their nonsense. It is part and parcel, for example, of slices of UK Lottery funding being subverted to "charitable" causes that turn out to be supporting outfits here in the UK that have been shown to be conniving to increase the already-excessive flow of illegal immigrants. And to my mind is similar in spirit, if not in kind, to giving faculty status to creeps in US academia who spend most of their time preaching against the US.

This is perhaps an endemic problem within the Anglosphere. On the one hand we have our elected Governments deciding that there really has to be a war against Islamofascism - with US, UK and Aussie blood and money as part of the cost of this on-going war, in the Far East as well as the Middle East.

But because of our belief in liberal values, free speech and so on, we tend to tolerate within our midst people who undermine what we stand for. Our proper historic concern for individual rights gets warped by PC attitudes that try to argue that moonbats like the VirtualPalestine crowd, rabid clerics like Abu Hamza, warped academics like the Columbia Prof. etc etc deserve their place under sun unless they do something that is totally illegal. People who would be lined up against a wall and shot if they expressed such dissidence in any of the dictatorships they espouse.

I suppose this is part of the price of freedom. The main thing is for good campaigning journalists, guys like Daniel Pipes and weblogs like this to keep alerting us to what is crawling around under the stones.

I don't think OZ as a whole deserves too much stick over the aberrant funding of the VirtualPalestine site.

Besides - Aussies are getting plenty of stick already from the Kiwis over recent disasters on the rugby field, especially the hammering of the OZ Wallabies by the Kiwi All-Blacks. To lighten the tone a bit, here is a link to some Schadenfreude by those damn Kiwis -

268 Ed Moran  Mon, Aug 18, 2003 4:56:25am

I never understood about 10 years ago why the South Korean riot police didn't shoot the "student" protestors who thre gasoline bombs. Throwing flaming gasoline at someone is attempted murder by my book. So is throwing stones at high velocity. Just because your odds of "success" in killing is better with a rifle than a rock, doesn't mean that throwing a rock isn't a serious attempt to cause death or injury.

Of course, back in college, when I was still semi-live and let live despite my time in the Navy, I almost felt sorry for the poor Paleos during the first Intifadah. Not quite realizing how noxious their final goal was ( or remembering the murder of Americans like Robert Steathem, USN or Leon Klinghoffer), I though it was almost a bit "David and Goliath", except David was the Philistine and Goliath was a Jew. I know from the success of Peace Now, and the election of the Labor governments, even many Israelis felt that way. If the Paleos had kept it to throwing rocks and burning tires, Israeli public opinion probably would have resulted in a Paleo state by now.

The hatred and stupidity of the Paleos caused them to ratchet up to suicide bombings and shootings. Arafart felt he was losing his image as leader with the Paleo kids leading the way with rocks. So when the Islamobot kilers started blowing things up, he wasn't to be outdone in the killing.

As an average Christian America, I suspect I'm not the only one who almost felt sympathy for the Paleos. But I suspect I am in the majority, following the celebrations in Paleo land after 9-11, and the attacks on woman, children and old people, at parties and Passover dinners and Bat Mitvahs, that our sympathy meter for the Pali's is hard on the low peg.

Ed

270 Maine's Michael  Mon, Aug 18, 2003 5:02:42am

Don't know if it's been said, but I've got an idea for more fun with virtual stones:

How about a Flash animation where you get to hurl a rock at a virtual adulteress, whose been buried in the ground up to her shoulders.

You can have little virtual dull thuds as the rocks hit, and little virtual pieces of flesh, bone, and brain that fly off as the stones strike.

The victim can make little virtual moaning noises.

A little virtual imam can check her periodically to see if she's still alive.

And when she dies, a virtual sunrise and rainbow grace the screen in tribute to the virtual god, Allah.

#268 Ed Moran,

If the Paleos had kept it to throwing rocks and burning tires, Israeli public opinion probably would have resulted in a Paleo state by now.

Don't forget that three years ago, a state was offered to Arafat and he turned it down without even a counteroffer or attempting to negotiate on its borders or sovereignty.

The olive branch and the dove of peace were offered by Israel; yet, a dove-kebab was thrown onto the fire to the frenzied cries of "More! More!" and "Pass the petrol, er, bbq sauce!"

Excellent LGF posts and responses to trolls. But there's one thing you don't understand. You can't reason, negotiate, converse, etc with the enemy--the paleo lobby.

You can't respond with reason, for instance to the troll who said that rock throwing isn't such a big deal. And you can explain the history, for instance Nekama's excellent post. It doesn't matter. The Paleo lobby doesn't hear or understand you.

I fought the paleo lobby on the NYTimes forum for months, with facts, history, reason, etc--to no avail. They are a religious sect in their fanaticism, inconsistency, and blindness.

It's a choice they've made. Don't waste your breathe responding to them. It only puffs them up.

It is said you should never get down in the mud to wrestle with a pig. You end up covered in mud, and the pig only enjoys it.

Still, I've learned through hard experience that when you don't answer a challenge, it will be perceived by the challenger as a submission. Even if it doesn't do any good, we have to restate our arguments when challenged. It won't do any good against the terrorist-huggers, but it might suade some in the middle. Especially if they see our arguments are grounded in facts and realism, and the left's srguments in the programmed repetition of silly and hateful slogans.

A Palestinian Reuters cameraman has been shot dead in Iraq while filming a prison. Reports are that he was killed by U.S. soldiers.

A Reuters staffer told The Associated Press in Baghdad that Dana, a Palestinian, appeared to have been shot by U.S. soldiers as he was videotaping outside the Abu Ghraib prison after a mortar attack there Sunday, in which six prisoners were killed and about 60 others were wounded.

The staffer, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the videotape in Dana's camera showed two U.S. tanks coming toward him, two shots, apparently from the tanks, rang out and Dana fell to the ground. He was taken away by a U.S. helicopter for treatment.

Direct hit! Not only a Palestinian, but from the press and probably a stinking muslim!

Yair (#273),

BTW, Good morning, LGF-er's

And Fuck You very much.

You show up and immediately start slinging insults.

What is your point? It seems like your one and only goal is to piss people off and then piss on them.

You continue to hijack threads with juvenile "I-know-you-are-but-what-an-I" taunting exclusive of any relevant input, reasoned arguments or honest questions.

What is your objective? To get attention? By having little tantrums and swearing to get it? Get serious.

It's very clear. You suffer from testosterone poisoning. Well, you obviously cannot find a sexual partner, but did you think about wanking? No, not on LGF, that doesn't seem to help you -- in real life.

Yair,

usually I really appreciate your posts.
Last night I put down the quarrelsome (to say the least) nature of your posts to breaking Iron Fist's golden rule.

This morning I am trying to kid myself you have a hang-over.

What's up? Mr. Pol is one of the good guys.

Zulubaby, glad you think I'm disgusting. Never thought someone someone would call me PC. If Mr. Pol and Tiburon are "good guys" you need to reconsider your little buddies.

Believe it or not, my comment #257 wasn't about you and I'm getting awfully tired of having to explain my posts to you, Yair. My comment to Mr Pol was in response to this:

A few Palestinians are trying their very best to destroy the cease-fire, but they are not succeeding.

Very PC, total bullshit.

Rest assured, I'm far more interested in what's going on in Israel than I am in you. That's not the first time I've seen you make the mistake of thinking that a post is directed at you when it isn't. You're really not all that important. Grow up.

Yair - Please read, and then re-read, and re-read until you understand Geepers post #225. If you have a point, you can argue it; there's no need for the ad hominems.

I'll give one of Geepers's posts more than a cursory glance when hell freezes over. Do you have a problem with Mr. Pol's ad hominem attacks as well? He just told me to masturbate. I wanted to respond that the messiah, Rabbi Shneerson, told me that wanking off makes me lose IQ points, but I'm dreadfully worried that would be ad hominem.

Ad hominems are fine against a dumbass, which Mr. Pol is. Unless you think that Meir Kahane is the one true path, in which case expect a few ad hominems in your direction.

As for Geepers, he has a vested interest in getting me to stop, since he is justifiably on the receiving end of it rather often.

With that I will stop.

303 Ariel  Mon, Aug 18, 2003 8:38:20am

Yair #302,

Do you have a problem with Mr. Pol's ad hominem attacks as well?

No, in this instance, I don't. As I read it, he didn't start down that path and he only followed reluctantly.

Ad hominems are fine against a dumbass, which Mr. Pol is.

I disagree, on both points. Mr Pol is not a dumbass. Ad hominems would not be fine with Mr Pol even if he were a dumbass.

I may not agree with everything Mr Pol writes (let's say he's probably more radical then I am), but disagreement does not make someone a dumbass. It just makes you seem like an arrogant prick when you make statements to that effect.

As for Geepers, he has a vested interest in getting me to stop, since he is justifiably on the receiving end of it rather often.

Then continue, what can I say? I agree with the meat of Geepers' post. You need to chill out, rationally argue whatever your point is, and cut out the insults.

304 PDM  Mon, Aug 18, 2003 8:41:24am

#302 Yair,

Please tone it down. Not only do you give the comment section a vile tone, but you antagonize others to do the same.

However, you do have a point. Other posters are participating in your pissing match. It would serve LGF better if they were to ignore you until you can articulate your disagreements with some civility.

#94 (Leesider)

"I'd like to know what is anti-semetic about saying the palis should not have a jackboot on their throat?"

Actually, there is something, but it requires elaboration.

You see, the Palistinians have repeatedly begged for this jackboot. When it is withdrawn, they take steps to ensure its return. How? By killing Israelis. Jews. You know, the "monkeys and pigs."

The Palis have their own fate in their hands. If they were building a self-sufficient state, policing it, behaving like a mature civilised country that does not send its citizens into neighboring countries to kill, who could stand against them when they asked that their state be recognized? Every little step in this direction, every time they even hint that they might be willing to lay off the Jew-killing for a while, they get rewarded with having less of the Irsaeli defense apparatus in their faces.

So when you say, without context, that the Palis should not have a jackboot on their throats, it is to say to Israel "Ease up on those guys. Yes, if you do, more Jews will die. But do it anyway. Despite their minor faux pas of killing Jews whenever you give them a chance, they don't deserve this treatment." Do you see anything antisemitic there? I'm afraid that I do.

Hm, but don't you think it's an intersting thing to look into a woman's eyes when she is not standing on her toes? I'm taller than most as well, but I think it is interesting also to not always look down ;)

323 Ariel  Mon, Aug 18, 2003 1:58:31pm

hans #322,

Well, I've tended to alternate between girls within an inch or two of my height (180ish, near as I can calculate) and girls in the 150ish range, so I'd definitely agree with you. There is something nice about being able to look into a girl's eyes at your own height, which I can appreciate. OTOH, IMO, when you're curled up with your gf in bed, it's nice that she's a bit smaller then you (in height terms) or else it feels a little awkward. And the other bad thing about tall gf's is that they're not allowed to wear heels with me - I don't like looking up into a girl's eyes. And I think heels can look quite elegant on a woman.

JohninLondon #329 - LOL! A friend once bought me a shot glass with the "ideal woman" on it - she had breasts, long legs, a butt, and that was about it.

Colt #340 - I'll never understand why they don't like to dress smartly, but I've noticed that as well there. Unlike in France, where everybody dresses really well. I did miss you mentioning the guy with the allowance to get laid, but I heard it on the radio here as part of their daily whacky headlines. Ah, the beauty of socialism.

Why not, say, a swimsuit model who's just made her fortune?

'Cause you know it's only going to go downhill from there?

JohninLondon/ploome -

I'd stay away from a Merc, but that's because I don't like seeing the same insignia that was on the gas chambers on my car. Personally, I like Lexus and Acura - they look nice and work well too. I like Infiniti too (recently), but now they belong to Renault (37% or so) - and I won't buy French.

350 JohninLondon  Tue, Aug 19, 2003 5:13:11am

You say you won't buy French. Is all that going to continue to be serious for the French (tourism is way down this year) ? Is the American feet really voting with its dollars ?

Aston Martin And they look G O O D.

352 Ariel  Tue, Aug 19, 2003 5:34:06am

JohninLondon #350,

My impression is that the American feet is voting with its dollars and choosing places where it's more welcome then France. From what I've heard, a lot more people are vacationing within the US - partly out of a fear of what's going on in the world, partly because many parts of the word seem less hospitable to us.

Unfortunately, I can't completely not buy French since I have some cousins just outside of Paris who I try to visit every few years. But right now, when I'm in a restaurant for business or pleasure, I consciously choose to avoid the French section of the wine list. But I think I will definitely avoid cars since they're a major purchase. I'll also avoid any big ticket items where there's an alternative.

But I'm only one person, so who knows? And who knows how long this mood will continue in the US?

353 Geepers  Tue, Aug 19, 2003 5:50:40am

Ariel,

Overall wine sales are up, French wines are down for the fifth month in a row.
Americans Continue Laissez-Faire Attitude Toward French Wine

However, Americans bought more wine overall in that same four-week period ending July 13, according to IRI's latest report. Sales of table wines from around the world rose by 7 percent in volume and 3.9 percent in dollar value, compared with the same period a year ago. And for the 52-week period ending July 13, overall wine sales increased 5 percent in volume and 4.1 percent in value, while sales of French wines dropped more than 16 percent in both categories from the same period in 2002.

So, it looks to be a long lasting phenomenon too. We'll see what some of the sales figures say as they start coming in.

354 Ariel  Tue, Aug 19, 2003 5:59:44am

Geepers #353,

Good news! Wonder if any of this will lead to a Clue™ for Chirac... doubt it.

355 JohninLondon  Tue, Aug 19, 2003 6:06:34am

I think French wine is over-rated. And over-priced, even here in London. My local supermarket if full of cheap and good wines from Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Italy, Spain, Chile etc. Cali wines are usually more expensive - they have lost ground here. French wine has really lost out here on price.

By far the biggest dollar item of US purchases is Airbus. But the guy/gal in the street will not normally choose which airline to use according to what planes they fly.

356 Ariel  Tue, Aug 19, 2003 6:28:28am

JohninLondon #355,

I tend to agree - most French wine is overrated. Chile and Australia are my two favorite countries right now. The one French wine I haven't found a good replacement for from another country is a Cote-du-Rhone. &ltSigh> - those are good.

357 JohninLondon  Tue, Aug 19, 2003 6:35:22am

New Zealand wine is catching up fast. They only started into the industry a few years ago, now their vineyards are reaching maturity.

A friend of mine once said to me, on a short trip to Capetown, "This wine is good"
