Note to a Pedant

Note to the pedantic David Bernstein at The Volokh Conspiracy: I could not possibly care less about the asinine hate speech laws in New South Wales.

As the blood of children is still warm on the ground in Jerusalem, Bernstein picks this day to advocate further appeasement of terrorism, in a fairly revolting bit of moral equivalence about what he calls “the insane enclave full of (often) violent religious fanatics in Hebron”—and this, after criticizing me for namecalling:

As for me, while I understand Charles’s emoting, I don’t find namecalling that doesn’t clearly differentiate between the terror leaders and the silent (at least) minority of Palestinians who would like to end the violence.

So if I call a mass murdering terrorist and his supporters “cowardly evil bastards,” I’m guilty of “namecalling,” and should worry about setting foot in Sydney, Australia—but Mr. Bernstein feels free to characterize the Jewish residents of Hebron as “insane, violent religious fanatics?”

The word “hypocrisy” seems appropriate here.
