Robert Spencer's Jihad Watch

Tue, Oct 28, 2003 at 4:12:50 pm PST

Robert Spencer, author of Islam Unveiled and the newly released Onward Muslim Soldiers, can go toe to toe with Islamic scholars, quoting Qu’ranic chapter and verse to illustrate his points. And now he has a shiny new web site (designed by LGF, natch!) to promote his books and ideas—with a weblog, of course: Jihad Watch.

Actually, it’s even better than that. He has two weblogs at his site; the second one is devoted to a critique of dhimmitude: Dhimmi Watch.

But PBS and AOL told me that Jihad was basically an internal struggle within an individual. It is going to be kind of hard to watch an internal struggle.

I just heard a better analysis of what is likely going on than I had. I had said we lost a SILENT WW3 to Islam and we are onto WW4. NOW..someone on TV (I forgot who is was now --one of the MSNBC Analysts) described what we are facing as analogous to the COLD WAR. Yes..it will go on THAT long. It will be THAT kind of fight.. I think the guy is RIGHT and I was WRONG.

7 MinusTheJihad  Tue, Oct 28, 2003 2:44:14pm

Nice site! How do you have time.

8 Trumanite  Tue, Oct 28, 2003 2:53:39pm

These two sites are now on my favorites list. Thanks Robert Spencer.

I think educating our fellow citizens in the concept of dhimmitude can be one of the most effective ways of turning on the lightbulbs in the heads of sensible people who are ignorant of the threat of Islam.

This site should supply lots of good information that needs to be spread to our families, to college students, to journalists and to politicians.

9 Occasional Reader  Tue, Oct 28, 2003 3:00:21pm

Watch out, Robert Spencer; you are almost certain to wind up on Allah's "Great Satan" list.

A great beginning for both sites, keep up the good work.

#6 Leah; I think that analogy is quite right, the war against islamism and the islamist terror masters will be "a long twilight struggle", although with more constant low-level violence than was characteristic of the Cold War. We are facing an enemy who is, fortunately, much less powerful than was the USSR, but also much less rational.

10 dhimmi-no-more  Tue, Oct 28, 2003 3:06:27pm

Jews and Christians are "protected peoples" under Islam. Zoo animals too, are protected.

11 FH  Tue, Oct 28, 2003 3:07:11pm

Congratulations on a job well done to Mr. Spencer. Its time to get the message out. The world faces a new darkness now, and unless we address it soon it shall cover the whole Earth.

12 Allah  Tue, Oct 28, 2003 3:08:59pm

15 Egfrow  Tue, Oct 28, 2003 3:16:00pm

Here is a little snippet from the Ayn Rand Institue. I thought it to be pretty accurate.

To understand America's depressingly feeble response to those warring against it, one must understand the fundamental ideas, the philosophic ideas, shaping our leaders' foreign policy. And to understand why America is the hated target of Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, the PLO, Syria, Libya and their hordes of terrorists, one must understand the philosophic ideas motivating them.

What ideas have undercut America? Politically, America's policy is one of appeasement, which emboldens our enemies. We occasionally half-heartedly bomb individual terrorists, but we negotiate with and leave unharmed the countries that perpetrate the attacks. Our leaders have been taught in college that pragmatism—the abandonment of a principled stand—is practical. Morally, America has been disarmed by altruism, the idea that sacrifice for the sake of others is the moral ideal. Our leaders think it is wrong to defend, by whatever force is necessary, America's self-interest. And the moral relativism and egalitarianism flowing from our universities causes our leaders to identify our enemies simply as men who have different but equally valid values. Our enemies are not seen as the evil they are.

Those warring against us are not isolated madmen but people motivated by irrational philosophical ideas. The religious mysticism and supernaturalism of Islam teaches them that the human mind is an impotent nothing that must prostrate itself before God, that the individual must sacrifice himself to the supernatural (the suicide bombers believe their self-sacrifice is the ticket to a blessed afterlife). Accordingly, these people hate those who champion not God but this earth—not mysticism but science and technology—not faith but reason—not collectivism and obedience to authority but individualism and freedom. In short, they hate and want to destroy the core values of Western Civilization—and its greatest flowering, the United States of America. It is no accident that they targeted the two tallest buildings in New York's skyline, concrete symbols of America's achievements.

Also, here is a little piece that was done one month after 9/11. America vs. Death-Worship: The Moral Meaning of the Coming War

16 AJ  Tue, Oct 28, 2003 3:19:54pm

It's gonna be good to watch him Fisk whitewashers of Islam. He is going to be called an Islamophobe by apologists. He says what I want to say, only without my own anger.

Judge Sentences Al Qaeda Supporter to Prison

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (Reuters) - Iyman Faris, an Ohio truck driver, was sentenced on Tuesday to 20 years in prison for supporting al Qaeda, after first admitting he cased the Brooklyn Bridge to see if it could be destroyed and then trying to withdraw his guilty plea.

U.S. District Judge Leonie Brinkema gave the maximum term possible after rejecting a request by Faris to withdraw the initial guilty plea he entered in a deal with prosecutors. She said he knowingly pleaded guilty and that his credibility now was "in serious question."

She also said that Faris underwent a mental competency examination while awaiting sentencing and that a psychiatrist found he had no significant mental problems.

Chalk one up for the good guys. The two problems I have are 1) all he got was 20 years, and 2) someone actually determined that he is sane...

Those warring against us are not isolated madmen but people motivated by irrational philosophical ideas.

And here I thought it was just righteous anger over our rejection of the Kyoto treaty, unfair trade practices, and failure to provide all our citizens with free health care and six weeks off per year.

I mean, that would make ANYBODY hate us. Terrorism is simply a legitimate form of protest by the oppressed against the oppressors.

Jumping Jesus on a pogo stick, but there're just way too many smart people out there with an excess of white guilt or something - I dunno - that doesn't let them see that we're the good guys.

Or we suck, I don't care. We just suck less than virtually anybody. Or, at least, the U.S. sucks way less than any other nation that comes anywhere close to matching us in power. I once heard some goofball say that we needed to be more like Iceland. Y'know, 'cause they're less evil than us. Fark that. Most web sites are optimized for a resolution of 800x600.

If you have at least a 15" monitor, there should be no problem viewing that resolution.

If you are using a Windows OS, right click on the desktop then settings. There you should be able to set your resolution to 800x600.

If you are using a Mac, I have no idea what to do :=)

Great Site Robert and will pick up the book tonight on the way home. I am probably a late starter on this war we are fighting as I only got involved after 9/11. But I am wholeheartedly engaged at this point and at times the effort we need to sustain and win this war seems to be absolutely out of our reach, somehow God willing we have to find the strength. We have to drag ourselves out of the easy chair stare into our childrens eyes and realize that "If not us then who? If not now then when?" the war is on whether we want it or not. Ours isnt to decide whether to be involved or not but whether to win or not.

Does anyone have opinions on Bush Vs the Beltway?

I barely had time to glance through it - I skimmed a few by rabbis I knew. The one by Jeremy Kalmanofsky is very good. The one by Burt Vizotsky speaks to the issues raised by the troll in a previous thread who was bashing the mother who was blown up on the bus, for taking her kids to Israel. Yael Ridberg is also good. they are all in NYC. Stuart Kelman's sermon manages to recover from quoting both Susan Sontag and Tom Friedman (his shul is in Berkeley).

Just pondering..And I think Ill put this HERE..Cause I don't know where else to put it.

Its RAMADAM time again. Now lets compare and contrast the behavior of the three religions and what they expect out of the adherents (is that a word to use here?) on the "holidays"....

It Christmas or Easter..and Christan's are expected to do --what? I know what they AREN'T expected to do..That is: BOMB THE HELL OUT OF PEOPLE OF OTHER RELIGIONS. At NO time does this religion tell its people to use either of these holidays to do violence to others.

Its Yom Kipper, Rosh Hashona, Passover, Succus ..and so on...and Jews are expected to do what to "celebrate" their holiday? What we are NOT told to do..is BOMB and KILL others to mark our Holiday. Even if you dont like a group, a nation, a people, THATS the time when you DON'T use violence.

Its Ramadan..and Moslem's ARE expected or will use VIOLENCE and BOMB OTHERS... If that ISNT true how come there are all sorts of warnings to the West that indeed because of Ramadan there will be an increase in Terrorist actions. Have I been hearing right?

Good Gawd Almighty!!!!!!Something is radically wrong here. I don't care WHAT the PC of the thing is.

In addition to what HULUGU said, I've got another reason. I'm currently working on getting into ye olde Law School at UT Austin. I don't want people to be able to google my email addy or name and come up with the politically unpopular but necessary things I say, or sites I comment on when THEY say them. Which is the whole reason that I don't give an email addy here or use my Real Name; I don't think that they could blackball me on account of my saying things about Islam, the UN or any other malefic construction of the world, but once I get in there (or any other law school) it could make my life on- and off-campus harder. Good enough reason not to shout my identity? (Full disclosure: I haven't tried to post at Mr. Spencer's site, so I don't know if it's required to put your email in as a LINK, or if you have to 'sign up' like some other blog talkbacks, wherein you can obfuscate your email from anyone but the owner.
