Hey, I’m with you- I have no doubt there are some very good reporters out there, but when newspapers have their own fact checkers separate and distinct from their own reporters, we have a problem.
Perhaps part of that trend is to help reporters maintain their access. Many leaders in business and politics today have press organizations that simply won’t grant access to a reporter they think will make the leader look bad. By separating the fact-checking duties from the reporting, a newspaper can still do its job reasonably correctly while maintaining its reporters’ access.
