Social Conservatives Getting Worried

Will you still love me, tomorrow?
Politics • Views: 28,717

The religious right is beginning to feel like they were used and discarded: Social Conservatives Say They Deserve Seat at Table in Retooled GOP.

“If you have a party that says not to talk about social issues, it’s going to be awfully hard to convince an electorate of why we should celebrate life,” said Bob Vander Plaats, the evangelical leader in Iowa who played an influential role in that state’s caucuses earlier this year.

Yes, because without blue-nosed theocratic fanatics like Bob Vander Plaats telling them how to think, no American would ever celebrate life.

Did God Troll Pat Robertson?

U mad bro?
Wingnuts • Views: 29,619

Back in January we had a post about Pat Robertson’s announcement that God had revealed to him who the next President of the US would be, broadly hinting around that The Man Upstairs was definitely not fond of Barack Obama. Robertson’s Christian Broadcasting Network went on to confidently predict a Romney landslide in the 2012 election.

Oops.

Today Robertson excused his absurdly wrong predictions by saying he missed God’s message, even though it sure seemed at the time like he was hearing the voice of the Almighty.

He doesn’t seem to have considered the possibility that God was just messing with him. Because He could.

“Reasonable” John Boehner: “Obamacare Has to Go”

Here we go again
Politics • Views: 24,658

Hey, I thought John Boehner was the “most reasonable, responsible person in Washington.” Ready to get down to work on the serious issues facing America.

So how come he’s suddenly getting wacky about Obamacare again?

President Obama has won re-election, but his health care law is still driving up costs and making it harder for small businesses to hire workers. As was the case before the election, Obamacare has to go.

You mean all that stuff about being reasonable and responsible was just empty happy talk? Say it ain’t so!

Cease-Fire Declared in Gaza

But will the rockets stop?

A cease-fire has just gone into effect between Israel and Hamas

CAIRO — Israel and Hamas agreed to a cease-fire on Wednesday, the eighth day of lethal fighting over the Gaza Strip, the United States and Egypt said after intensive negotiations in Cairo.

The cease-fire, to take effect at 9 p.m. local time (2 p.m. E.S.T.), was formally announced by Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and Foreign Minister Mohamed Amr of Egypt at a news conference here. The agreement was aimed at quieting an escalating aerial battle between Palestinians and Israelis that had threatened to turn into an Israeli ground invasion of Gaza.

Whether the cease-fire could hold was uncertain at best, and even in the minutes leading up to the effective start time, both sides were firing at each other.
