NKU Hosts ‘DARWIN 2009’
Northern Kentucky University announced Monday that it will host a DARWIN2009 dinner and keynote lecture by noted philosophy professor and author Dr. Barbara Forrest on Feb. 16. The event will take place at 7 p.m. in NKU’s Student Union Room 107A, with a wine reception and registration beginning at 6 p.m. and dinner following at 6:45 p.m.
The lecture, titled “Slam Dunk for Science and the Constitution: Kitzmiller et al. v. Dover Area School District 2005,” is one in a series of events throughout Greater Cincinnati celebrating the 200th anniversary of Charles Darwin’s birth and the 150th anniversary of the publication “The Origin of Species.”
Forrest is a professor of philosophy in the Department of History and Political Science at Southeastern Louisiana University. She is co-author, with Paul R. Gross, of “Creationism’s Trojan Horse: The Wedge of Intelligent Design” which details the political and religious aims of the design creationist movement.
She served as an expert witness for the plaintiffs in the first legal case involving intelligent design, Kitzmiller et al. v. Dover Area School District. It was resolved with a judgment in favor of the plaintiffs in December 2005.
