Laughing at the Grim Reaper
A little background here about my experience with parachuting may shed some light on my thoughts about jumping out of a perfectly good airplane while it is in flight…thousands of feet above the environment upon which we should have the good sense to remain whenever practicable.
Between conflicts, an Army buddy and I got a wild hair, and decided it would be cool to propel ourselves out of a moving Piper Colt while it was in the air. No one, in those days, strapped themselves to another individual in whom they would entrust their lives, and leap, or rather, follow his lead, to the Earth. No, we actually trained for several days before the initial jump.
