Honor Sullied by Obama’s Speech
Mary Ann Glendon, a Harvard Law professor and former US Ambassador to the Vatican, will not accept the highest honor given by Notre Dame.
Notre Dame offered Ambassador Glendon the Laetare Medal and wanted to present it to her at this year’s graduation ceremonies. The University apparently suggested that the award to the high profile — and faithful Catholic — Glendon might offset some of the criticism the University has received by inviting President Obama to address this year’s commencement exercises.
