Rove said that the use of “Barack Hussein Obama” would perpetuate the notion that Republicans were bigoted and would hurt the party.

“We warned him away from using the middle name,” replied Bill Pascoe, Keyes’ former campaign manager, when I checked with him to see if my colleagues and I had missed something when coming up empty after plumbing our memories and the news archives.

Pascoe told me he and former top Keyes consultant Dan Proft had steered him away with the admonishment that such a gambit would be “rude, uncivil, needlessly provocative and incendiary.”

Guess his parents are bigoted as well since they named him that. Was Barack himself bigoted when he utilized his whole name when taking the oath? Truth is, only a bigot would come up with such tripe.

Yeah, that makes sense…I guess so/

Protectionism is a very dangerous thing. As Bastiat said: “When goods cannot cross borders, armies will.”

That’s a good one.

I’m not sure what you mean by your remark. Canada provides the U.S. with water, oil, gas, electricity and is a huge trading partner.

re: #6 yenta-fada

While Canada is our biggest trading partner, they have a long way to go to win the title “best friend”.

Consider the conflicts in which America has led since Korea and whether our “closest allies” participated.

Viet Nam:
Canada = NO
UK = NO
Australia = YES

1990 Gulf War
Canada = YES
UK = YES
Australia = YES

Iraq:
Canada = NO
UK = YES
Australia = YES

Afghanistan
Canada = YES
UK = YES
Australia = YES

One country has a consistent pattern of standing by us and it isn’t Canada.

With respect to Viet Nam, the PM of Canada openly supported our foe and actively encouraged American men to dodge the draft and flee to Canada.

Canada is a friendly nation as far as it goes, but it is at best in 3rd place for the title “best friend”. It would be easy enough to argue that in recent years several former Soviet Bloc countries have been better friends to the US than the nation of Canada has.

In the Pacific Northwest and in parts California, Canadians are as popular as SARS.

The reason is nasty Canadian protectionism, which is most brutal in softwoods, which has forced a quarter million American lumbermen out of work, and in the entertainment industry, which is pure parasitism.

The “Canadian Content” (or “cancon”) rules prevent Americans from working on American films lured over the border, hence the Canadian accents heard on Stargate, X-Files, etc. This also extends behind the camera. To double the injury, the Canadians who received invaluable “credits” on these productions take their resumes to Hollywood, where they step to the head of the line, throwing Americans out of work in their own country.

Nasty, nasty, nasty.
