Haku again
Haku came to me on December 31, 2003, a stray puppy caught running around the neighborhood with no collar.
My friends Mike and Jeannie took him in after chasing him around the neighborhood for an hour. He was slippery and thought it was just a game.
Until he got hit by a car on Charles Street. The driver never stopped.
When I got to my friends’ party, the first thing I saw was this little puppy looking at me, saying “help me!”
I asked about him, and they told me the story. And I said, well, that’s cool you took him in, but what about taking him to the vet?
Then he leaned over and coughed up blood.
Short version: three days and four figures later, he was mine. He had two punctured lungs. Doggy ICU.
And we have hardly ever been apart for more than eight hours since then.
In the picture you can see him as he was after he came home to his new home after the doggy ICU. The shaved leg shows where they put the drip.
He knows when I’m about to get sick, and tells me before I know.
