This is why I’m pretty much sticking to my forum I have been posting at for several years. It’s a happy medium. We have members who are Israeli and quite a few Arabs (also liberals, conservatives and everything in between.) and everyone gets along quite well. The debate has been polite debate and not rabid on either side. On most sites I’ve looked at, it is either one extreme or the other. I find that boring and beneath me so I don’t bother to read it or participate.

Quite honestly, that’s why I like coming here. Hearing opinions from people that disagree with you builds character…

I’d say it widens your horizons…..

Calling a blockade illegal doesn’t sound racist and it seems like something that can at least be discussed. There is no room for discussion on swastikas, hate, etc but some of those other topics (just the topics, not the content of the links) seem perfectly valid for conversation.

Sarah Palin isn’t off limits to criticism and neither is Israel. I reject the notion that any discussion or opinion that isn’t 100pct pro-Isreal makes someone a racist or an anti-semite, not saying you are making this statement but it’s out there loud and clear.

This entire situation is fucked up and the probability that one side or the other is completely innocent of any wrong doing or mistakes approaches 0.

Unfortunately your summary doesn’t quite get the gist of the discussion. The discussion you hope to find can be found on the opinion pages of the Jerusalem Post.

What the author of the piece refers to is full scale antisemitism which, to his dismay, he thought was solely in the provinces of the Right. He now sees it all around him, hence the decision to completely withdraw both physically and intellectually.

My summary gets the “gist” just fine. There are articles, subjects and people linked above and lumped together under a label “full scale antisemtism”. I feel that some of these are incorrectly lumped. He can see what he wants and I can see what I want. Just because I don’t agree doesn’t mean I don’t get it.

As you noted, I am not saying that Israel is above reproach. What I am saying is that it does deserve the same consideration as any of our other allies. We can disagree with actions of the British, but that seldom devolves into suggestions that British should not exist or adoration of the IRA (example). The very idea of that conversation is absurd.

But in the context of Israel, there are people calling for the removal of Israel as a country, comparisons to Hitler’s Germany (which is vile on many levels) and remarkable statements like “I

****I hate that when you use the symbol for a heart, the rest of your comment gets dropped; especially when there was a lot of comment dropped. In any case; continued from above:

…*heart* PLO”.

I think that this is primarily coming from a point of ignorance to middle east relations and history; but that doesn’t make it excusable.

You don’t need to shave your head or wear a pointed hood to be biased. IMO, a willingness to lay blame for all of the middle east’s woes on Israel is antisemitic. In the same way that a willingness to lay blame for the issues in urban communities on minorities is racist.

If the Gaza Strip has a border with Egypt, why then is a naval blockade an issue?
It would seem the honest answer to the problem is the importation of food, medical and related non-military goods through the Egyptian border crossing rather than provoking Israel.

re: #7 ShaunP

The Israelis are blockading the importation of military materiel into the Gaza Strip. They have stated publicly they do not blockade food, medicine and related humanitarian goods. If Hamas is attempting importation of munitions or components for qassam rocket construction then those shipments should be rightfully blocked by Israel.
