Extraordinary post, Summer. In every respect.

Thank you for putting that wonderful mind to such great use, for our benefit.

Excellent post!

One suggestion: I strongly urge you to look at Umberto Eco's(old) essay Eternal Fascism:14 Ways of Looking at a Brownshirt and consider a new page (and a new blog post) that targets just your last paragraph and expands it w/r/t Eco's points. and links the old blogpost and this page.

The characteristics you list as definitive of the tea party are all there. In your excerpted paragraph beginning "On the subject of platforms, one last statement: The Tea Party is National Socialism" it's like an expansion of the Eco essay. Perfect.

(busy tired and multitasking, missed it if you mentioned this, I think you did at one point) --the eco essay isn't long at all.

Thank you so much, iceweasel. =) In fact, Eco is one of my favorite authors of all time and I'm reading a book of his right now. I forgot about his essay and I'm glad to re-read it as per your link. =) The fact that you actually thought of what I wrote and thought of Umberto Eco speaks total volumes to me. Thank you so much. =)

The GOP has no monopoly on racism. The democratic party has its fair share of racism and racist skeletons in the closet.
That history ranges from opposition to the abolishment of slavery in the 19th century, to the democratic filibuster of the Civil Rights Act, and the numerous racist comments of prominent past and present democrats.
How quickly people forget Jesse Jackson's "hymie town" and Hillary Clinton's "Gandhi ran a gas station in St Louis".

My pleasure! I'm delighted you took my suggestion and made it a page-- more people should see it.

The bit above reminded me so strongly of the Eco essay that I went back to your full post and read it again twice quickly before posting to see if you'd already explictly referenced it.

Just an idea: consider taking that bit, explictly walking people through the Eco or mentioning it (it gets a bit of play in the libsphere but lots of people are still unfamiliar with it), blog it, make it a page and tweet the LGF page-- add the #p2 hashtag. You'll get a lot of attention and drive new traffic to LGF and your blog, if you want to. I have a list of places and people that would be interested.

Send me a tweet when and if you do. Cheers and good luck. Ciao.

Thank you.
I like to at least try for a little balance around here. The GOP hate fest here gets a little thick at times and that balance, or in this case a reminder, is needed at times.

Thank you again!

I will write an expanded summary and post it. Maybe tomorrow. And then I'll send you a tweet. Perhaps you're right and it does need expanding upon. =)

Oh no--it doesn't need expansion-- it's perfect as is!

I thought if you had the time and inclination it might be something you'd like to do in a week or two, as a separate post, and mainly I know it would be popular beyond LGF and your blog if you wanted to promote it. No crticism of your post was intended at all! I loved it. :)
Looking forward to your thoughts as ever, on anything, anywhere.
