LA Times gets it wrong in one photo at “UPDATED: Real Photos That Look Fake”
In a slide show titled “UPDATED: Real Photos That Look Fake” at the LA Times we once again see the urban legend being spread that the ejection in the above photo actually took place. This would be photo number 15 of the slide show.
If you look closely you can see that the horizontal stabilizers are in a down position and the inboard landing main landing gear door is still open. This indicates that the aircraft photographed on the ground with the landing gear edited out.
In this web page you can also see the same photo along with other photos of the alleged SU-35 No. 801. However if we look closely at the vertical stabilizer we will find that it not the same aircraft. The ejection photo shows the tip at an angle while the photo below shows the tip as being horizontal. In fact the aircraft show in the ejection sequence is not an SU-35 but an SU-27.
The ejection sequence took place on the ground.
