Slight correction-- Sen. Philip Reed of Maryland died back in 1829. His amendment, which the Thirteenthers insist should have been the "real" 13th Amendment, was never ratified. It's not part of the Constitution at all.

Repealing the 13th Amendment would make slavery and indentured servitude legal again. That's not going to happen. Ever. There's no way that humiliating a President -- any President, regardless of party -- would be worth sacrificing the soul of this country and making slavery legal again.

What these nutjobs want to do is "restore" what they claim is a "lost" amendment to the Constitution to try and revoke Barack Obama's citizenship because he won the Nobel Peace Prize. It's ODS on steroids and it has absolutely no credibility except among the fringe idiots.

The Iowa Republican Platform, which called for ratification of this Reed Zombie amendment, is a towering mountain of JBS, religious right, and tea party horse manure. Among other things, it calls for the abolition ("abolishment") of the USDA, the Department of Education, and OSHA; and the repeal of minimum wage laws. It even calls for the Iowa state department of education to be abolished. Naturally, they support creationism in the public schools and denounce global warming research as "fraudulent."
There is a heavy dose of vintage JBS isolationism as well. They spell out their opposition to One World Government, Shariah law in the US, and the mythical North American Union as though these were major threats. They also oppose "treaties that compromise the sovereignty of the United States or that are prohibited by the Constitution." Perhaps they don't realize, as many wingnut conspiracists do not, that this is already legally impossible and always has been.
There is much, much more at the link. On the whole, this makes the notorious Texas GOP platform look like a model of enlightenment and moderation.

It's worth noting that both Teddy Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson accepted the Nobel Peace Prize while in office, and Jimmy Carter received it after leaving office.
I guess this officially makes TR a RINO, while Wilson and Carter were Democrats and internationalists and therefore not Americans anyway.
