A UN flag flies above trees which Israeli soldiers (behind Israeli truck) apparently attempted to uproot on the Lebanese side of the fenced border, sparking clashes in a skirmish which left three Lebanese soldiers and a journalist dead, according to Lebanese and army security officials on August 3, 2010.

It seems they were a road maintenance crew.

I'm reluctant to draw conclusions from photos like these. You're looking at a split second of time, with very little context and no way to know what happened immediately before or after.

I think more evidence is needed before you can say there's "proof" of UNIFIL complicity.

Also ... none of the photos I've seen show an RPG actually being fired. In fact, the Lebanese soldiers holding the RPGs don't really look like they're about to fire them, either.

If there were a photo showing UNIFIL personnel standing by as weapons were fired, that would be proof. All these really show are that UNIFIL was there; there's no evidence of fighting in the photos, unless I haven't seen them all.

Don't get me wrong - it does look pretty crappy to see UNIFIL standing by like that. I'm just advising caution about jumping to conclusions before the facts are in.

I hear what you are saying, and did mention in my post that "it is not clear whether the Lebanese soldier picture actually fired the RPG." I also stated that UNIFIL were "possibly" shielding Lebanese soldier. But for this link, I stated UNIFIL were complicit b/c at the very least, they are standing around.

However, you are right to question it!

This is not the first tree-chopping incident to occur in a dangerous border area between two countries at war.
