El Paso high-school teacher slain in Juárez
EL PASO — An El Paso high-school teacher described as witty, well-liked and respected became one of the latest victims of the continuing violence in Juárez.
James Patrick Barnes, 56, was shot and killed about 6:30 a.m. Friday in a poor neighborhood in the western part of the city, Chihuahua state police said.
Police found Barnes lying in the street faceup next to his 2010 Toyota Camry. He was shot once in the back, officials said. Police did not say whether anything was stolen.

His daughters said they have no relatives there, and he did not tell them he was traveling to Juárez.
“We had family in Juárez, and we would go to a Christmas party and stuff like that, but nobody was there anymore,” said Melissa Barnes, another of his daughters.
