Cordoba House Controversy Update
Weighing in…sensitivity… and Imam Rauf’s comments in Bahrain….
Add to that a fisking of John Podhoretz and his comments about how the Cordoba House controversy grew from the failings by Gov. Pataki and others in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks.
It starts with the fact that no one saw the Burlington property as worthy of being purchased by the LMDC and preserved or turned into a memorial or expanding the Ground Zero footprint as was the case with Fiterman Hall and former Deutsche Bank building.
In fact, the LMDC completely screwed up things with the demolition of both buildings - taking years before the demolitions could proceed, and even then the former Deutsche Bank building was a catastrophe waiting - negligence, fire, safety problems, deaths of two FDNY because of safety issues, etc., and it still stands nine years later.
No, the problem isn’t the master plan either (and there was plenty wrong with that too).
Oh, and the Ground Zero site is full of construction activity if one bothers to look.
