Science Friday Archives: Science in the Gulf
Are researchers being shut out of gathering valuable data in the wake of the Gulf oil disaster? Linda Hooper-Bui, an ecologist in the Gulf, says that BP and the federal government are hindering independent research into the effects of the oil spill. We’ll also talk with Cary Nelson, head of the American Association of University Professors, about academic freedom and gulf oil research.
Heard this while I was out motoring around northern Kentucky.on an errand to buy and incredible sounding (and priced!) 1978 Fender Precision Bass from an old school country musician who lived in a 1792 log cabin. What a trip!
Oh yeah, the story is a bit disturbing. It would have been nice to have a representative of the government to explain why independent scientists are being denied access to and have had their research confiscated in the Gulf unless they sign confidentiality agreements.
