relatively moderate Muslims are going to be pushed into joining extremist movements like al-Qaida.

Really? Not one moderate Muslim I know is thinking of flying a plane into a building. This will turn a moderate into a fanatic like XBox will turn a sweet kid into a serial killer.

A really bad argument.
Essentially, the article is saying that opposition could fuel terrorism, ergo, don’t oppose if you want to avoid Islamist terror.
In other words, the threat of violence should determine what is done.

Nice cherry pick. I guess the qualifier right before the part you quoted was to much for you to understand.

If there was any justification to the opposition, I suppose you would be right. Unfortunately, there isn’t. So yes, Americans attempting to pressure other Americans who happen to be Muslims from exercising their property and religious rights do play into the world view of Islamic extremists who want would like nothing more then moderate Muslims to view western political traditions as an assault on Islam.

Cherry pick? It’s the premise of the entire article. It’s the TITLE of the article and the premise is stupid. It is insulting to true moderates, who, like many others, may be offended and angry when faced with racism, yet remain peaceful and loyal Americans. If it’s getting terrorist swine all riled up? Who cares? It will be this, or America’s support of Israel or the fact there is porn or anything else they see as an outrage punishable by death.

It is their sense that by doing this that Americans are going to alienate American Muslims to the point where even relatively moderate Muslims are going to be pushed into joining extremist movements like al-Qaida. They couldn’t be happier.”

It is Al Qaeda “sense” it will alienate moderate muslims, not that it actually will. In this regard, the actual extremists feel they win. The point is not that opposition to the Cordoba House will actually persuade moderate muslims that joining the extremists is the way to go, but that it reaffirms the notion of the extremists that their war on western values is having the desired result.
