Is This Racist?
I see stuff like this a lot, so when I ran across this comment on Twitter today:
Racism is demanding Black Americans vote DEM or call them disparaging names. Blacks must think as Left tells them.#black #dems #p2 #tcot
I decided that this was racist, and made a short little rant about why I think this is racist:
They assume blacks have no will of their own, and only vote the way others tell them to do. And if you do a google image search for “tea party racism” you’ll see a zillion signs & t-shirts with “disparaging names” for blacks. Trying to turn the debate around does not make you any less wrong.
This wasn’t the first time I’ve seen a tweet like this, or read an editorial with it, or heard it in an argument. I think people are starting to take it at face value, and I think the world needs to know that this is a racist viewpoint. Somewhat blatantly racist, but somewhat veiled.
