Watchdog group seeks Senate probe of Vitter Baton Rouge, LA
Whoa! The prostitute wasn’t enough … now this, although it doesn’t involve Vitter directly - an aide apparently used taxpayer money for trips to Louisiana for personal court appearances, but I guess Vitter had to approve the expenditures?
NEW ORLEANS (AP) — A government watchdog group in Washington is seeking a Senate ethics committee investigation of Louisiana Sen. David Vitter.
Complaints from Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington center on Vitter’s former aide, Brent Furer. Furer, who resigned in June, was arrested for an alleged knife attack on a girlfriend in 2008 and later pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges.
CREW’s complaints include taxpayer money being used twice for Furer’s trips to Louisiana when he was scheduled for court appearances in a drunk driving case. Vitter’s campaign accuses CREW of “coordinating” an attack on Vitter with his Democratic opponent. However, the group has a history of complaints against members of both parties, including prominent Louisiana Democrats.
