Muslims and Martians : Dispatches from the Culture Wars
Quite so. But for folks like Geller — and the troll who has been occupying these parts lately — any denial of the inevitability of the takeover of Sharia is immediately turned into a preference for Sharia. Don’t think the Martians are going to take over? You’re obviously a Martian sympathizer who wants them to take over!
But here’s the thing. The likelihood of something happening has nothing to do with whether that something is good or bad. A genuine imposition of Sharia law in the United States would be an unmitigated disaster. As a secularist and an infidel, I’d be the first one targeted by the imposition of radical Muslim theology. And I’d be the first one fighting against it for that reason.
But being against it does not require losing one’s sense of reason and imagining that we are on the verge of being enslaved by the warriors of Allah. We aren’t, not by a longshot. And pretending that we are is not just irrational and paranoid, it’s also dangerous because it undermines our ability to fight radical Islam around the world.
