McCain (Meghan, not John, though he gets involved later) v. O’Donnell is heating up:
“Well, I speak as a 26-year-old woman and my problem is that, no matter what, Christine O’Donnell is making a mockery of running for public office,” McCain told anchor Christiane Amanpour. “She has no real history, no real success in any kind of business.”
McCain, daughter of Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., said that the message, “that sends to my generation is: one day you can just wake and run for Senate, no matter how [much of] a lack of experience you have. And it scares for me for a lot of reasons.”
“I just know, in my group of friends, it turns people off because she’s seen as a nutjob,” she said.
But, daddy John disagrees, in an interview with George Stephanopoulos, as well as doubling down on Palin and the Tea Partiers:
“My daughter and I have very spirited conversations from time to time and it’s a lot of fun,” Sen. John McCain told me. “With all due respect to my daughter, the primary voters of Delaware chose Christine O’Donnell and she’s the candidate.”
McCain did, however, agree with his former running mate Sarah Palin’s assessment that the “GOP is through” if they don’t follow the Tea Party’s lead.
“I think she is right to this degree, that obviously when we gain the majority, when Republicans gain majorities, they betrayed our base typically in the area of fiscal responsibility,” he said.
Finally, O’Donnell snapped back and Meghan gave it as good as she got:
McCain’s comments about Delaware Republican Senate candidate Christine O’Donnell as a “nut job” while appearing on ABC’s “This Week” program Sunday, immediately received harsh criticism and backlash. A response that day from the O’Donnell campaign mocked McCain for having “vast experience in politics and running for office.” McCain is now firing back.
The 25 year-old, whose departure from conservative orthodoxy on some issues is no secret and has put her at odds with some in the GOP base, reminds the O’Donnell campaign and other critics in a blog post late Monday night that “I am not the one running for Senate. I am also not the only one with issues with Christine O’Donnell.”
You go, Meghan…you just told the Tea Partiers one of their emperors has no clothes and now you’re deemed a RINO, just like anyone else with any sense.
